GTX 280 on vista 64 w/ DX10 at 1280x800 (slightly higher res) has problems with very high with no AA. Runs beautifully on High with 2x, even 4xaa (drops down to 10s in high action, so I stick with 2xAA). See rest of system specs in sig.
My understanding is that 55nm refresh is to happen next week, not next month. The 55nm dieshrink based on the GTX 2xx technology Quadro FX 5800 is already out for sale today (if you can afford $3,300 for a video card).
I am waiting for the die-shrunk GTX 270 and 290 (or whatever their names...
I see they are now listing the visiontek card (4870) for $309.99 with free shipping. Its out of stock, but they very frequently have 10% off E&A.
Downside is that you pay tax. In NY, after the coupon, but with tax, the 4870 comes to $303 at my door. Compared to $310+tax+$9 shipping at the Egg...
...or use anydvd to disable hdcp protection on the fly.
...or rip the hd-dvd to your hard drive with dvdfabdecrypter and watch from there.
I am starting to understand how the linux guys feel. All their stuff is legit, but they just can't watch the stuff they paid for because of manufacturer...
I got this reply from Nvidia:
Hello,
This support website is designed to support products purchased directly from NVIDIA, such as the NVIDIA Dual TV tuner card, NVIDIA Pure Video DVD Decoder, and QuadroPlex. We also address Presales questions about NVIDIA based products and technology.
The...
oops, some clarification, this is for 30" Dell 3007WFP or Apple Cinema Display or HP whatever or Samsung 305T owners.
Basically at the moment, if you have a 2560x1600 display running over dual-link, you are out of luck if you want a top of the line video card that also handles hdcp over...
I just saw in the release notes for the 163.71 nvidia drivers that they fixed the HDCP issue over dual-link at resolutions higher than 1280x800. I downloaded the drivers and grabbed my hd-dvd drive (360 hd-dvd) and popped in 300. But I don't have my copy of powerDVD yet to test it out.
In the...
The release notes for the 163.71 WHQL drivers state the following:
"Fixed IssuesWindows XP 32-bit
Fixed Single-GPU Issues
All GPUs
HDCP cannot be enabled with the Dell 30 flat panel on resolutions higher than
1280x800, which prevents playback of HD DVDs or Blu-ray discs. [328561]"...
Got my 37W3 from Costco today. Its got 1 stuck green pixel towards the very top of the display (nigh impossible to notice). Firmware version is 1.0 and the box looks like UPS played Rugby with it...
So I guess the short version is, there is no way to calibrate the color via some sort of...
I know the noticeable smoothness of 100hz over the 60hz, tho the lower refresh bothered me the most during 2D use, and not during gaming.
I did not notice any of the loss of definition in gaming you mentioned, I will take a closer look while gaming with something fast paced ( I have been...
Lack of uniformity has been mostly fixed in the newer 3007WFP units as I understand it. What's left is, like you mentioned, barely noticeable.
The main selling point for me on this HC, was the HC, and I can say, the greens and Reds really look fantastic. If you can get the HC for $150-200 US...
Hehe, reading all these posts about the matte finish and the light buzzing sound when brightness is set to 20, kinda makes me happy that I don't have perfect vision or hearing anymore! I certainly don't notice the matte finish's texture on anything (even really up close), and except for the...
At the snail's pace Dell has been in updating their webpage about this monitor. Expect to wait a while before being able to order it "officially" in Canada or the USA. From what I have gathered, Margie and Jonathan are amongst the very few sales reps that even know how to order these. At a...
Hehe, yea I found out about that "battle" too. So to level the playing field, here is the rest of Margie's info also, again posted with her approval:
Margie Scudder
Customer Account Manager- Software & Peripheral
Business Sales Division

Yea, I ve also PM'ed a lot of people Margie's name, its scary how many Dell reps still don't know about the HC...
I was kinda wary of posting her e-mail also, for two reasons, the spam being one, and privacy being the other. So I e-mailed her asking if it was ok, she said "Yea!", apparently...
Have you heard back from HotHardware about this? So far only thing floating around is for running this at 1280x800 (old laptop with dvd drive). I kinda was hoping to get a Mac Mini to run this beast, but no updates to that product so far that will let it drive the 3007WFP at 2560x1600 (hardware...
Depending on the county, about %8.625 to %8.75.
And we got major real estate tax, hows about ~1.5% of property value? (With like average homes starting at 250-300k).
..and don't get me started on City Tax...
Nice, as I was looking thru the pics, I was thinking to myself, I am not the only one who took photos starting with the box, thru the unpacking, going to the desktop pics...
I too fall in your boat, not rich, just work a lot to afford these kinds of toys.
The monitor is really nice, only...
At today's exchange rate, thats about the US default price ($1,699).
As far as what they are thinking with the 27"....who cares, I pity the fool that buys that 27" over something like a 37" LCD TV (which it is obviously trying to be like with all those input options).
So the breakdown is like this?
1297 -->HC
99 --> Year complete care
35 --> Handling fee
Am I right? So you didn't pay any tax. Whats the 3 year complete care thing? Doesn't that come standard with the monitor (with advanced exchange and whatever)? Or you mean the accidental damage plan?
Sounds like pretty much everybody is getting about %15 off retail without a sweat. Thats kool. Tax is a bummer for those of us not in NH :D
Btw, ZZZ, you keep referring to my contact as a "he". Is that unintentional, and you mean she? Cuz she was definitely a she.
Well, as far as I can tell...
Sorry to hear that dude. She picked up when I called (10+ times total), though she was always busy with another customer on the other line, so she would call me back in like 5-15 minutes.
I hope you get yours and with a good deal to boot! These monitors are fun.
hehe, reading this posting, I feel like I am at an OCD Anonymous meeting. I too admit I have a problem, I don't like people touching my screen.
I dread the day I will have offspring, and they will start touching it, and breaking stuff.... Well maybe not dread, but not looking forward to it...
Bright reds, lively oranges, lush greens. At least thats what it means for this unit.
Depending on which part of the color spectrum that 92% is being aggragated from, that can change of course.

That article has a nice CIE...
Sounds like you got a technology intervention...I got a dose of that from my co-workers, whose ears I had been chewing off with the new HC, and how Gamut this, Resolution that...
Its pretty kick-ass. The size is big, but I knew that from seeing the original WFP in action, and the apple cinema...
I am in the US. As for the contact I sent, she was in the office yesterday, probably not today (sent me a quote for a 8800GTX and a 20" LCD). I believe she works monday-saturday. Did you try dialing in her extension or using her direct number? When I called the second time, I got her directly on...
Yea I believe it will work over single-link. I see what you are saying about 2560x1600 being over HD spec... It may be that ATi/Nvidia are simply waiting for that part of the spec to be fleshed out prior to implementing it?
Heh, as a side note, even 1080P HD video when stretched out to 2560...
Hmmn, wait till monday. Thats when Dell sends out the new mailings, and even if you aren't on the mailing list, there will be a rise in dell coupon posts on slickdeals and fatwallet (as well as e-bay...).
Also, I can tell you for Small Business, its very YMMV to get the discount without the...
I don't understand, the 3007 doesnt even come with sound (by default, I know there is an add-on sound bar). The benefit of HDMI is that it is DVI bundled with audio. Also there is no device out at the moment outputting over HDMI that can go up to 2560x1600.
Do you mean you are wary because...
I just got the HC setup. I also got no dead pixels. I noticed the slight humming mentioned when I step up the brightness from 90% to 100% (not sure how many steppings there are).
There is no perceivable backlight uniformity issue, however long shutter photos of the screen (~10 sec) do show...
Actually... they do:

240V:60A (Max.) at 0oc
The HP LP246 is S-IPS I believe, and non-glossy. And it should be around since 24" is the new 23".
its $740 minus a $40 rebate. Costs more than the Dell 2405 by about $150, but I believe it is a superior panel.

I know what you are saying here...but it is really a circuitous way of sayign the 8800 cards do NOT support HDCP at 2560x1600.
I mean think about it, DVI single link maxes out at 1920x1200. The 8800 cards have no analog VGA outs, so the only way to get to 2560x1600 is dual link. And over...
I got a good deal on it. As I said, the sales rep was really nice. And I just found out I should have it tomorrow! (it shipped out the same day I put the order in, how awesome is that? I haven't seen that kinda turn around since newegg).
This is a misconception going around. The 3007WFP-HC and the regular WFP both have HDCP support. The reason HDCP is NOT working on them, is becaue of what K00LANCE said, none of the video cards out there support HDCP over dual-link at the moment. That will change, and when it does, boyakasha...
After waiting since November 21st of last year, I was finally able to order the High Color version of the 3007WFP today.
It is still NOT on their website, however I was able to call Dell Small Business Sales and after 3 tries, I got a sales rep that actually knew what she was doing.
She...
The 2405 did have some banding issues if I recall, so I can see why you would be cautious with the 3007. However, there have been no reported banding issues on this monitor that I have seen, and I have read every bit of info I can find on it.
The panel is an S-IPS unit with very good color...
