Hey guys, what PCI Express version is my motherboard?

I only do 4k these days on a 4k 120Hz display. Gaming at 4k is always the priority but I do a lot of video encoding as a hobby as I film a lot of 4k video with my drones and gopros but my video editor uses the hardware nvidia encoder (Vegas Video) so it's pretty fast, much faster than CPU only...

Hey guys, what PCI Express version is my motherboard?

See this is why there is no such thing as future proofing, lol. As soon as there's any single piece that's a viable upgrade you have to upgrade everything else to fully utilize it anyway. So do you guys think that I would be better off just skipping the 4000 series and waiting till the 5000...

Hey guys, what PCI Express version is my motherboard?

I updated my bios to the most current one so I would need a 11th gen CPU for the PCI-E 4.0 support? The 4090 is my current max budget, but just in case, what would be an actual noticeable upgrade to my current 10850k that would fit my board?

Hey guys, what PCI Express version is my motherboard?

The manufacturers website says PCI-E 3.0 but in CPU-Z it shows the graphics interface as 4.0? I'm just wondering about being able to run a RTX 4090 on this board. New mobo/cpu/ram isn't in the budget. I run everything at 4k.

6700k Itching to upgrade (I'm using a 2080Ti@1440p and do some 4k video editing) - 3900x or keep on rocking my 6700k?

4k isn't overrated if you have a large screen. On my 75" HDR 4k screen it will still show some alaising without anti-aliasing at 4k but otherwise it looks breathtaking. On smaller screens such as 27" I find 1440p the sweet spot. 1080p really looks chunky to me now.

6700k Itching to upgrade (I'm using a 2080Ti@1440p and do some 4k video editing) - 3900x or keep on rocking my 6700k?

Horizon Zero Dawn and Monster Energy Supercross 3. Even more sadly, I don't even really see any perceivable boost in video or photo editing and my video editor will max all 10 cores but it is also GPU accelerated. I am keeping the system/parts though for other reasons (more stable, old system...

6700k Itching to upgrade (I'm using a 2080Ti@1440p and do some 4k video editing) - 3900x or keep on rocking my 6700k?

Ok so I got a 10850k, MSI Z490 mobo, and 32GB of DDR 3600 and what a joke - not even one frame per second more at 1440p! Definitely still GPU bound even with a 2080Ti! 15 days to return at Microcenter so I'll probably return everything and get a RTX 3090. Anyone out there with the 6700k era...

6700k Itching to upgrade (I'm using a 2080Ti@1440p and do some 4k video editing) - 3900x or keep on rocking my 6700k?

I don't think that anyone would deny that under "certain" bin picked conditions that there won't be any difference at all, it's just that the majority of the time you probably won't notice anything worthwhile. On the Steam forums I seen someone complaining that their 9900k with a 2800Ti was...

Drive I bought was a returned/used drive, run a file recovery program on it? ;)

Yes, my oldest drive still in use that I just removed had 30,000 hours according to Crystal Disk Info. But still, who knows what someone did to the drive for those 65 hours, maybe they dropped it or damaged something internal or what was the reason was for the return anyway (was it giving them...

So I called Seagate in advance to make sure but... (using a NAS drive in a desktop)

I also picked up a 12TB WD drive from Best Buy and shucked it... It's large and in charge and is dead silent. Copying large video files over from my M.2 NVME Samsung SSD is exactly the same transfer speed as the loud as hell Seagate NAS drive so I don't believe just because a drive is large that...

6700k Itching to upgrade (I'm using a 2080Ti@1440p and do some 4k video editing) - 3900x or keep on rocking my 6700k?

Are you guys sure GPU encoding still sucks? I find that as long as I keep the bitrate close to the original file that it looks nearly identical? It's when I use a pre-configured profile is when the video quality degrades. Youtube degrades video quality more than anything and Facebook drops 4k...

6700k Itching to upgrade (I'm using a 2080Ti@1440p and do some 4k video editing) - 3900x or keep on rocking my 6700k?

Yea gaming is the top priority and why I bought a 2080Ti. Video editing I don't really care too much as the latest version of Movie Studio Platinum 17 claims full GPU acceleration and it does seem to run very smooth to the point I don't even have to create smaller cache files of clips anymore...

6700k Itching to upgrade (I'm using a 2080Ti@1440p and do some 4k video editing) - 3900x or keep on rocking my 6700k?

My 6700k only does 4.4Ghz so that's my base on what I'm looking to improve from (I feel like I've been using this CPU forever, definitely my longest lasting CPU) I game mainly at 1440p and like to crank on the eye candy as high as possible on a 144Hz G-Sync monitor but sometimes play on my 4K...

Drive I bought was a returned/used drive, run a file recovery program on it? ;)

Well I didn't have time to dick around with it anyway, would of been interesting, but I returned it to get a 12TB drive from Best Buy. Maybe the store themselves was using it for customer tech repair, backing up files, then moving them to a new disk, who knows.

Drive I bought was a returned/used drive, run a file recovery program on it? ;)

I picked up a 6TB drive from Staples last night and didn't notice that the seal had been broken until this morning and that it was a returned/used drive. I ran Crystal Disk Info on it and it said that the drive has been powered on 29 times and used for 65 hours. That seems like a lot of use to...

So I called Seagate in advance to make sure but... (using a NAS drive in a desktop)

I wound up picking up a Western Digital 8TB External Drive today (nobody carries internal drives around here anymore) and taking it out of the enclosure and putting it into my desktop. Good thing I did a little research before taking it apart because I had to block the 3.3volt pin for it to be...

So I called Seagate in advance to make sure but... (using a NAS drive in a desktop)

Hmmm... Everyone of my other mechanical drives of multiple brands are quiet. The only other drive I had a problem with noise was the original Raptors. I'll just keep returning them until I find one on par with my other drives. A drive shouldn't sound like it's defragging while playing back a...

So I called Seagate in advance to make sure but... (using a NAS drive in a desktop)

Hey guys, is this mobo sufficient for the 9900k?

It's like everyone on the planet decided to upgrade their CPU and Mobo at the same time...heh. Well maybe this is a clear-cut sign that I shouldn't upgrade yet. ;)

So I called Seagate in advance to make sure but... (using a NAS drive in a desktop)

So this is what they told me to do and I couldn't figure it out. The Seagate utility kept saying unrecognized command: " Thank you for contacting Seagate. Here is the Case # 10515975 for the Seagate Ironwolf Pro drive. Here are the instructions on how to disable EPC (Extended Power...

Hey guys, is this mobo sufficient for the 9900k?

Elaborate? I haven't used AMD since....I can't remember...maybe and Athlon XP 2700 or around that era... And how does it compare to the Intels? Should I just wait or are they more or less on par with each other?

So I called Seagate in advance to make sure but... (using a NAS drive in a desktop)

On the phone with Seagate now, the lady said there might be a setting to quiet it down that has to do with power management. It's definitely as loud or louder as the first gen 69GB 10k RPM Raptor and that's not going to cut it for me, lol. My other Seagate mechanical drive is almost dead silent...

So I called Seagate in advance to make sure but... (using a NAS drive in a desktop)

I already don't like this drive. Say if I open up a video file it constantly crunches loud while playing the file from start to finish. If I play the same file on my normal (non NAS) Seagate 3TB drive it does an almost inaudible and short crunch upon initial file opening and then it's about as...

So I called Seagate in advance to make sure but... (using a NAS drive in a desktop)

On a drive this large that would probably take several weeks. :p What's weird is after formatting it said 14.5TB free but 6.57GB in use. It really needed to set aside 6.57GB on a fresh formatted drive?

So I called Seagate in advance to make sure but... (using a NAS drive in a desktop)

So I called Seagate in advance to make sure but... (using a NAS drive in a desktop)

My luck is I would have 20 backups and my house would burn down and I would lose everything anyway! I don't have the time to wait for another drive to come through the mail, I'm zeroed out on hard drive space and every time I fly my drone it's another 30GB of video and pics but I would be...

Hey guys, is this mobo sufficient for the 9900k?

You might not technically be able to see it according to the refresh rate of the monitor (my monitor has a 165Hz setting if you don't mind degrading image quality a little), but you can most certainly feel it in the responsiveness of the controls plus being able to maintain higher framerates...

So I called Seagate in advance to make sure but... (using a NAS drive in a desktop)

Since I've gotten into 4k videography and especially with video editing and storing everything I found out that I need hard drive space, a lot of it, lol. So I'm tired of dicking around with 4 to 5 drives in my desktop so I ordered a Seagate IronWolf Pro 16TB NAS Hard Drive to replace all my...

Hey guys, is this mobo sufficient for the 9900k?

Better make sure my power supply will work with the new gen mobos...it's a EVGA Supernova 750 G2 that I got with the 6700k. I know if I SLI two 2080 Ti's I would probably need better than a 750W PSU but for now will this work with a 10700k board?

Hey guys, is this mobo sufficient for the 9900k?

"OUT OF STOCK" Story of my life, lol. But thanks for the recommendation! I'm going to get it when it's back in stock! It's so hard to keep up will all my tech hobbies, right now I just happen to be more into drones thanks to the Covid craziness and everything I love to do being shut down or...

Hey guys, is this mobo sufficient for the 9900k?

I have a nice Noctua cooler. Of course, that motherboard you recommend is out of stock everywhere I normally shop online. Yea I mainly game at 1440p, sometimes at 4k if playing on my home theater, but mainly 1440p. I notice in your sig you have DDR4 3200, I was going to get 3600, overkill? But...

Hey guys, is this mobo sufficient for the 9900k?

Oh, I wanted to ask, is the 9900k a solid upgrade from the 6700k? I'm running a 2080 Ti for gaming and do 4k video editing. What will I see a boost more in? Video editing, gaming, or both? Or is my 6700k still a strong processor (running at 4.4GHz)

Hey guys, is this mobo sufficient for the 9900k?

Not a lot if options in stock, and newegg is offering this mobo as a combo with the 9900k but I don't want a weak motherboard that can't run a 9900k sufficiently. I'm shocked to see so many motherboards in the $400 price range, yikes...

What's causing my frame drops? Pic of hardware monitor inside

The core that peaks the highest is still only hitting 83% and this is slightly after the lowest frame dip. Backing up a split second to the lowest frame dip that core was only at 61% during the lowest frame dip (125 fps). It would make more sense if something was maxing out during the lowest...

What's causing my frame drops? Pic of hardware monitor inside

If the GPU usage is dropping at the same time as the framerates drops occur, would that say that the videocard is waiting on the CPU (maybe game physics, etc) but the CPU usage doesn't go much over 50%? So before I waste money on the wrong hardware I need some insight. Specs are: 6700k @ 4.4GHz...

    6700k wont go over 4.4Ghz?!

I must be the most unluckiest person on the planet with winning the silicone lottery and I also must have the worst 6700k on the planet. Even 1.40v doesn't improve stability over 4.4Ghz. Seem like in Core Temp when it crashes over 4.4Ghz it's core #3 (numbered #0, #1, #2, #3) that drops from...

Is there a 27" 1440p gaming monitor that has good image quality?

Ok so I got the color and contrast pretty damned good (might have to bump down the saturation a few, it's still on the default saturation level). What it mainly was is that there's a lot of useless modes on the monitor that really bork the colors like the GameVisual modes, ULMB, and even...

Is there a 27" 1440p gaming monitor that has good image quality?

Yea you must of posted this while I was typing my last post. That's what I kinda figured. Most people haven't had experience with a display with truly great image quality to compare to. This really reminds me of that old Viewsonic CRT gaming monitor from back when futuremark was madonion that...
