I just heard about setting up a RAMDisk recently and was wondering if that can be done natively with Win7 or do I need to buy software to make that happen? Also, I'll be getting 8gb of RAM for my upcoming build, should I set it up to have 4gb for the RAMDisk?
Normally Id say build one, but since her computing activities are so light I think youd be better served going prebuilt. Custom built would surely be more expensive.
Thanks, the ability to upgrade is always a huge factor in product choice for me. I'd much rather just buy a new cpu to upgrade rather than have to buy a mobo too. I won't be quick to upgrade though, hopefully this build will satisfy me enough to give mw the luxury of waiting until the price...
Honestly, no. Cause if you had asked me at first what my budget was I can assure you $115 for a 64gb ssd and $65 for that Samsung Spinpoint would not have been included ;) but you guys convinced me it would be a worthy investment so now I'm getting them, hence the "I buy based on what I need...
Ripjaws it is. I have a CPU cooler already, the Xigmatek Dark Knight. Now that I think about it, I think it's pretty clear why it's not a great idea to have music claiming space on my SSD, I would be better served to save that space for programs. Well, that being said, I think the 64gb SSD would...
Touche!
Thanks for slapping me around a bit to make me see the light, sometimes I get ahead of myself, this is one of those times. Since I had listed two cpu's, I thought you were referring to the other one I listed when in reality you had suggested a different one altogether. Makes a ton of...
Wow, the audio is that good? That's cool, one less component I'd have to install! I'm not an early adapter so whatever I get will likely stay with me for a while unless I have an opportunity to upgrade for a very good price. The only reason I like the idea as one suggested, of going with a...
Thanks tiraides for all the helpful info, very much appreciated! What drew me to that mobo? Well, I love Asus products in general, I seen that board had the new am3 socket and had all the sockets I need (pci-e, pci, sata, usb 3.0, etc) and it didnt cost too much so i figured it would meet my...
Im not building this rig based on a dollar amount, ill spend whatever is needed to meet the goals I laid out in my post. What does where I live have to do with the products I am considering for my build? I plan on buying the stuff asap. I swear I said I wanted to overclock it a bit in my op. I...
Hey guys, it's been a while since I been here cause my PC has been fine but a couple weeks ago I shut her down one evening and the next day she wouldn't even turn on:( This build has been good to me, it's lasted about 5 years, no hardware issues until recently when my secondary HD crashed (It's...
Well, as expected, my speed did drop off a bit....it's still plenty fast for what I do so not really complaining.
My modem/router does do mac filtering though, so don't write that off just yet, however it won't allow me to use my router. Oh well, no biggie.
Wow, all this time later, same setup, here's my numbers now
But there's a change coming soon, kinda nervous about it too. We just upgraded to Comcasts Triple Play and elected for the 20mb connection over our current 12mb.....they sent a new modem, a Thomson ACG-905. This modem is also a...
Hey guys, you helped me before so it only makes sense to hit you up now that i need help again
I just bought a new 55" LED TV and while I was setting it up I noticed it has a RGB connection for hooking up a PC. That's cool and all but my video card only has DVI so here's my question.....
I...
Anybody ever use this program? I just stumbled on to it and wondering if it's worth downloading/installing and doing the work to "normalize" my mp3 collection.

It's funny you say that because I updated to the newest version of the driver and CCC and still wasn't there AND I couldn't OC, even though the controls to do so where there.
I went back to v.8.1 and all is well
Well, I successfully upgraded my video card from an MSI X800XT to an MSI HD 4830OC. I have a mild OC on it at the moment, 600mhz core/1000mhz memory and so far so good. All of my Vista Experience scores are now 5.9 except for my CPU, which is a respectable 4.8.....I plan on upgrading it soon...
Thanks for the review link.
My card and game shipped out Wednesday, the card from Tennessee, the game from SoCal. The game arrived today, card is expected Monday. I can't wait!
Makes sense now, thanks for the clarification.
I ordered the same one this morning and it was $94.99, so from the time I first noticed it this past weekend, to the time I ordered it the price only went up $5
The MSI I posted is only $85 after MIR and I get Rainbow6 Vegas2
The ASUS you posted is $135 after MIR + tax and shipping and no game.
I think the MSI not only fit my budget, but also fits my needs better than the ASUS, not to mention the MSI card is also factory OC and can be OC even further
Yep, that's the one I was looking at. Seems like one hell of a card especially for the price. I remember when I got my current card back in 05, it was $75.
I found this card at my local Staples priced down to $71.99
I didn't snatch it up because I wasn't sure if that was a good deal.
I currently have a MSI X800 and it's been good to me but wouldn't mind an upgrade especially if it's to be had for a good price. I see this card has a TV tuner...
I was in the market for a router recently and like you I had heard all the rave reviews about the DIR-655, I just couldn't bring myself to buy it cause IMO it's fugly. I ended up getting a DIR-655 clone, the TRENDnet TEW-633GR. This router was mated up with a RCA DCM325 modem which is connected...
Wow, that's horrible. I pay $27.99 for 6mb/s down and 1mb/s up throught Comcast, but since adding a TRENDnet TEW-633GR router I now get 30mb/s down and 2mb/s up:cool:

The link you posted was for New Jersey, this article directly addresses my area.
And i'm on one of the lower tiers at 6mb so I'd have to sign up for the upgraded speeds, which I haven't done.
All of that is...
the tech came out on the 5th. The date on all of the above listed tests are the 10th or later, with the last two being after I installed my router, the first one was with no router.
Comcast already knows my line is capable of these speeds because I had a tech come out on Monday to try to figure out why I was only getting about 2k kbps download speeds. He got 23k kbps on his laptop and modem using my line.
What I don't understand is the role my router played in unlocking...
Some of you may know that I was looking for a router recently and had settled on getting the Belkin N1 Vision, mainly due to it's ridiculously sexy looks but also because of it's expansive feature set. I decided I was going to buy local just in case the unit was DOA or I simply couldn't get it...
