FS: Server Hardware Galore! (Servers, RAM, Xeon CPU, Switches, SAS Drives, Network cables/transceivers and more)

I could get my hands on 6gb SAS to 6gb SAS, but I don't have 6gb SAS breakout to regular SAS or SATA. Those can be found cheap on amazon or eBay. Which cables did you want?

CLOSED - WTB: Mobo/CPU (and maybe RAM) combo

Good questions. Sorry I should have mentioned... prefer ATX, but mATX would work too. Prefer m2 nvme slot. Color preferred but not mandatory. Don't need a super overclocker. Ideally wanted to spend $150-300 and assumed that a good price point for something nice would be 200-250. This could work...

CLOSED - WTB: Mobo/CPU (and maybe RAM) combo

Upgrading my son from an OLD AMD FX 8-core 8320 and 8gb ddr3. My budget is anything, but the most important thing is "bang for my buck". I don't want the latest and greatest b/c it's overkill for price vs performance. For now I have a GTX 1080 gpu to pair this up with. Mobo/CPU can be 2 years...

DIY Cloud Storage for Synching mobile devices

It may, but I already have a dual parity primary setup with backup on-site and backup to off-site. Was hoping to leverage my primary setup and throw data at it through a new VM or service.

DIY Cloud Storage for Synching mobile devices

Lots of great solutions here. Sounds like I really need to get into containers.

DIY Cloud Storage for Synching mobile devices

I've been doing VMware for a decade now, so it's hard for me to shy away from it. As far as containers, that'd be Tanzu. I'm not sure there's anything I can do natively with 6.7. Sure, if I wasn't a VMware advanced professional, I'd have run something like KVM or proxmox.

DIY Cloud Storage for Synching mobile devices

Well my file server is ZFS on omnios, so I am not sure I can run it on there. It's all CLI and I only know a few ZFS commands. Total novice still there. This sounds great. I haven't done anything with containers before. Can I run it on top of ESXi? I'm running 6.7u3.

DIY Cloud Storage for Synching mobile devices

If it's something I have to pay for, I'm willing to go for a product that is a single-time purchase, and something with good reviews. I'm hoping to build it, set it and forget it, at least for a few years. I understand they'll be upkeep... just trying to decide if it's worth looking into...

DIY Cloud Storage for Synching mobile devices

Thanks for the quick reply. So for this I'd need a windows server/desktop (I'd build as a VM) and have some shared drives mapped? I have a ZFS file server, so if I map via SMB (the service is already running), then I could create new destination folders. Hmmm....

DIY Cloud Storage for Synching mobile devices

Is there a not-so-complicated solution available to build your own cloud storage where you can synch up folders from your laptops and or mobile devices? I have a ton of equipment at my disposal and would love to build my own setup instead of paying for OneDrive, Google Drive, or dropbox. I want...

APC UPS goes straight to battery.

I'm gonna just keep my eyes peeled for something, but quite honestly in no rush. My main server, network equip, and NAS are all on a different set of UPSs. Was thinking of getting a smaller one for this setup. I think 1500 is overkill. I just need something for brownouts and safe shutdown...

APC UPS goes straight to battery.

Well, I was looking at a cyberpower 1350 or 1500 pure sine wave. Now you got me wondering if I should stick with APC on this one machine I had it hooked up to. I'm using two Cyberpower in other places in the home and those have been doing well. I'll keep my eyes peeled for both brands. I...

APC UPS goes straight to battery.

That 1200VA replacement in the pic looks identical to my 1500 that I'm ready to throw out. I'm gonna pull the batteries out and save those, though! That's nice of APC to send you a brand new unit! Companies don't do that often these days. And I too have some old surge protectors. Never...
