Depends on your setup too My is lower-end, I only have 1gb and thats plenty---for now. The 2x1 , 2x512 setup should be fine, as long as in pairs / same speed. just ask yourself: Do I need 3gb of Ram?

they can't see you in the arena? hmm, some reason they Always see me when I sneak . btw, I have 100 sneak (sometimes 110 w/ armour) how do you do it in the arena? (might be useful for the animal fights)

he goes for a swim in the evening (the special arrow should take him in 1 hit..in sneaking mode) try to save the arrow though... i tried to take him out normally (like 15 times) but got beat down / attacked by bodyguard... so used arrow = 1 hit death

will help if you lower it, also make sure that you enable the 128mb from bios, and adjust the performance in the ATI control panel...set it to max performance, rather than quality. HL2 might be a little overkill for the graphics card... but thy the above..might run a little better... I ran...
