Pure BS. Most AMD forums are saying "we'll believe it when we see it". Intel are liars. They even lie in court cases. I hate F A N B O Y ism. Wait for independent benchmarks, otherwise you're proving naive, gullible and ready to believe any BS that Intel shits out.
Exactly. ;)...
It doesn't matter that the thread is a year old, not one bit. All I want to know is how G.Skill's customer support is, and I thought I could maybe rely on you guys to help. I Googled for a while but didn't come up with much. Later on, I found G.Skill's support forums and a good thread on XS.org...
I would like to know this too. Actually, it's a friend over at forums.amd.com who's asking. He had trouble with Corsair RAM (errors in memtest at stock) and is thinking of getting G.Skill (the 2x1GB kit of the Extreme series with black spreaders, as recommended by me and Eclipse).
Anyone...
I disagree. Whack the HTT up, loosen timings a little and let it rip.
@ Eclipse: Dude, is that Ballistix in the second screenshot with Idle Cycle at 0? I might try that on mine.
Depends what you're doing. DO you do anything that hits RAM hard? Are you a gamer? Then upgrade, it'll make a nice difference.
2*512 MB Ballistix PC3200 is less than $120 now over at the Egg.
How much light is there inside a PC case? I mean, yeah there's those dudes that have like 60 UV lights and stuff in their cases, but they're a bunch of poofters and don't count. Seriously though, I doubt that black spreaders is gonna cause problems... just cause they're black.
Do Ballistix...
Hey bud, if you're around, could you tell me something about the G.Skill Extreme 2 GB kit (with the black spreaders) and tell me how it compares to THIS CORSAIR. It's a friend over at forums.AMD.com who's asking. I advised him to get the G.Skill, but he's thinking the Corsair might do better...
An hour? Then there's no point in running it. Best thig to do is run Memtest overnight, as sometimes errors won't show until later. To be honest, it doesn't make much sense to let it run for less than 32 passes -- this is the number of random tests that Memtest will use, so to pass all of those...
That's really hard to do with Ballistix. I can do 260 @ 2.5-2-3-5 but tRP @ 2 is impressive for Micron at that speed. Can I "trade" other timings to get the tRP to 2 or is that impossible? I'd be interested in an A64 Tweaker shot of your exact settings, Eclipse, if you have one.
Wow, if Ballistix was any better I'd be even more blown away. The speeds this stuff does considering it's price is insane. In the best possible way.
You're right about Crucial not giving anyone grief. Customer support is almost beyond belief. Some guy I spoke to recently had RMA'd about 5...
It's a black theme based on Luna, and not shiny and cheap looking like those WindowBlinds themes you see. Grab it from my FTP if you want it:

This is a Visual Style, I.E, no extra resources used and no software to run. What you...
If it's any use to you, I have 2 x 512MB Ballistix PC3200 running at 256 x 9 = DDR 512. The max OC I got was 287Mhz = DDR 574 @ 3-3-3-5, 1T.
With the 256 x 9 overclock, my timings are 2.5-2-3-5, 1T, 2.8V, DIMM slots 1 & 3. tRC and tRFC are at 8 and 12 respectively. In fact, I'll just post my...
And so it should! We have some serious Ballistix lovers here, it'd be a shame to see Crucial lose so much respect. But hey, thanks. Is he in the UK or USA? May I add, thanks to Crucial for keeping an eye on us -- the RMA service is like no other company, and this is really helping to keep...
Yeah Eclipse, my RAM works better in slots 1 and 3.
In 1 & 2 = errors galore, but the boot issue happens whenever two sticks are inserted, period. Doesn't matter which slots are being used. If only one stick is installed = no errors at all.
It's a weird one, but no major hassle.
Has anyone else had the same boot issue I'm having: If the power supply is turned off, and the cable is removed, when powering back on at the PSU switch my RAM isn't detected. Keeping it switched on but pressing the reset switch once will get it to fully POST. Otherwise it just sits there...
Something definately isn't right about Ballistix these days. All this talk of active cooling, I agree, it makes sense and I wouldn't run mine any other way, but it didn't used to be like that, I'm sure. Put it this way, I ran a stick of PC3200 at 2.8V and over for a long time, and it never...
I just got a new stick because one of my others died. The batch is CL1115Y.HX, let's hope it lasts a while. Anyone else familiar with this batch number?
What I want to know is whether these problems are affecting PC4000 more than PC3200, because that's the way it seems to me. Almost everyone...
One of my sticks is ruined! Heh. I believe putting 2.9V through it damaged it, despite active cooling. Now it produces tons of errors in Memtest, even at default speeds and voltage. I will be careful next time. I'm only gonna ever use 2.8V, and no more!
Has anyone else killed their Ballistix...
OK, after much tweakery I decided to leave it at 250Mhz. This seems like a good compromise because I can keep great timings. DDR500 @ 2.5-2-2-5 is nice enough for me, plus all other settings pretty much at their tightest. CAS Latency is one of the few settings that was changed, and the...
OK, gonna mess with it some more and maybe bump up the volts.
Another question though: If using a tRAS of 10 and a tRP of 3, should I set the tRC to 13? I know it'll work at 8 or 9 just great, so I'm wondering if setting tRAS to 10 is really a good idea at all, because according to "theory"...
This is a nice guide, eclipse. Recently I've been pushing my Ballistix (2x512) as far as I can, and they suprised me. I always thought they were no good after 233Mhz, but since I got a DFI board and experimented more with various dividers / multi's, I found it's this old Clawhammer 3200+ of mine...
