You can use this http://www.sybausa.com/productInfo.php?iid=1233
or this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817984008
Only takes 1 slot and the first one is hot swapable.
this software doesn't have ability to set the credentials for the connecting user, it will just use whatever user is currently logged in. So in order for this to work properly you need to run under account that has admin access to the system you're trying to connect.
basically it constantly spits out
vmxnet3s: [ID 654879 kern.notice] vmxnet3s:0: getcapab(0x200000) -> no
everything seems to work fine so probably ok to ignore. Network speeds seem fine, but I need to do some 10Gbe tests this weekend
yes using vmxnet3 but i just recently did the upgrade, need to do some testing. It seems to constantly spit out some msgs
The upgrade is super easy, you just use the built in pkg manager. see http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23824_01/html/E23811/glpgv.html#glpdr
You can get iso of SE 11 here
I got vmware tools working on solaris 11. Used a trick though, install solaris express 11, install vmware tools from esxi 5 U1 then perform upgrade from se 5.11 to solaris 11.11
vmware tools continue to work on solaris 11 :D
yes the 3550 is a 100mb but you can get 1gb uplinks on it, he doesn't have to use the other ports for anything. A single 1gb connections is all that is required for the switch to do the routing. And at the price 3550s sell on ebay it's a lot more affordable than 1910 or any other L2+ switch, not...
I've used these http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=SM16A6R7R before and they work fine but honestly it's not worth the $$$ get 40gb ssd and just velcro it to side of the case or top cover or something. Plenty of mounting options, with regular ssd u get more storage + they are faster than...
u can use your asus rt-n66u, not sure if the asus software can do what's needed but wrt or tomato both can.
If you want cheap l3 device cisco 3550 switch is great way to go, u can get one on ebay for less than $100
I actually have 2 spare 3550s so if you want to pick 1 up pm me
PCI is anal about outside facing open ports, they usually have requirements on minimum supported encryption ciphers etc, You have open ports, ie ftp, web server etc they just have to be properly secured with no weak encryption cipher support etc.
If he doesn't use ssh to access the router from...
ya what ^ said, u need a layer 3 device to do routing between vlans. So either a l3 switch or setup router on a stick. In your case you would need to setup the asus router with multiple virtual interfaces 1 per vlan
anyone running solaris 11.11? I had major issues joining it to a domain, it would not set computer account password, finally after x number of tries it took. Wish my pool wasn't v31 so I can switch to something based on illumos.
don't disable ssh just setup acl to only allow access from internal subnet, that will make ssh inaccessible from the outside so PCI scan won't detect it
just because it's on separate vlan doesn't mean u can't access it through smb from your desktop etc. As long as you have something that can route traffic between vlans (router, l3 switch etc) you can access the storage. You could also fire up a virtual machine and put it on same vlan as storage...
sorry my mistake than
i was just going by cisco datasheet.
Their wording is very misleading than because by reading it I got the impression that the switch has dual personality ports that are 10gbase-t or sfp
Actually the Cisco Catalyst 2960S-24TD-L has 2 10gbase-T ports
if you want sfp+ the cheapest way to get few ports is hp 2910al + 10gbe sfp+ modules (J9008A)
switch is ~1700 + $650 per 2 port sfp+ module (2x modules max) you can use that with sfp+ direct attach cables so if you don't need long...
