Hi Guys,
Networking is the part of tech where I'm the least literate so please excuse the basic questions.
Is a PCIe wireless adapter better than a USB one? I'm told that it is, and my guess would be due to better reception with the antenna, but there are also USB adapters with antennae. Are...
Thanks for the tip, I looked around. Couldn't determine if it's a dangerous problem to have or just inconvenient? Will MSI's RMA department replace it?
I recently bought an MSI GTX 970 and it has started to make a very strange high pitched noise when GPU Usage climbs up. It starts immediately with the GPU Usage climb and is unrelated to the spinning of the fans. GPU voltage is a trailing indicator of the noise, obviously it's related to GPU...
I bought a Corsair CX600M semi-modular PSU (Link) and although it was supposed to include PCIe power connectors for my video card, it did not have it (Image of missing cable). Before I contact Newegg/Corsair and wait a lifetime and a half for them to ship it, I wanted to explore other options...
Hi guys, I just built a PC with a Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI and everything's been going great but one of the motherboard temp reading on SpeedFan is showing 127*C. I'm wondering if it could be a misreading or an error, or if I did something to mess up the installation.
If I am at fault, any ideas...
The motherboard uses a Killer NIC and I'm wondering if it has wireless capability. It's listed as just a LAN chip with no mention of wireless. Ethernet is not an option in my home, so networking has to be wireless.
Thanks for the input, I'll keep those cases in mind. They're actually listed at $50 and $80, respectively, for me on Amazon. Can you tell me what makes the 230T so much better than the other cases? Is it the durability, cooling capacity, ease of build, etc?
Brilliant, thanks! I'll either be going with the HAF 912 or the Thermaltake Commander. I know the HAF has an amazing reputation but I think my brother (who I'm building the system for) would enjoy the side window. Do you know if the Thermaltake case is quality? I usually try to crowdsource good...
I haven't built a PC in years so this might be a silly question, but I'm wondering if a GTX 970 will fit inside most mid-ATX cases. Do you guys have any recommendations for good sub-$100 cases that would fit one of these giant video cards, or do I need to be looking at full ATX towers?
Thanks for the responses guys. What concerns me is the load power consumption, which on a single stock GTX 980 is pushing 300 Watts. I imagine the GTX 970 isn't too far behind, especially when overclocked. I realize the rest of the system isn't very power-intensive, but it still makes me...
I'm building a gaming PC for my brother but I've been using laptops since about 2008 so I'm a bit out of the loop when it comes to certain important parts.
The GTX970 seems like an amazing value but I'm unsure about what kind of PSU would be a good fit for a system with one of those cards...
My ultrabook laptop doesn't have a DVD drive, and due to a pre-existing Samsung mini-partition, USB installs also run into trouble. Previously I've had to go out and buy an external USB-connected DVD drive to reinstall Windows.
I'm wondering if there is a way for me to use another computer to...
This is certainly possible. However the problem I'm running into is that I can't reach safe mode or access any kind of command prompt. After the BIOS, Windows starts to run startup repair; after this fails, the computer simply reboots without giving me any other option. There is no way (that I...
So after a Windows update rebooted my laptop, I'm unable to boot again because of a corrupted registry. I need to recover the data from that drive. I'm wondering if it's possible to take out the slim hdd in my ultrabook, use some kind of SATA-to-USB adapter, and connect to it as an external hdd...
Thanks for the quick reply, Elleana.
Yeah, this is why I really want to go for it. But it really doesn't seem that much faster.
And now that I know that the GX2 doesn't require an SLI motherboard, its a bit of a no-brainer to go for that, since that's pretty much the same price as the...
I haven't been here in well over a year, I stopped paying attention to computer trends in early 2007.
Just a quick question - Does the 9800GX2 video card require you to have an SLI motherboard to function?
And if it does, is a $280 GTX260 worth the increased performance over a $195 9800GTX?
I have no way to get into Windows.
Like I said, all the Safe Mode options lead to the same blackscreen. Even enabling VGA mode didn't help, just lowered the resolution.
I'm running Windows XP 32-bit. It boots up and I get the screen that asks if I want to boot in as normal, as last good config, as safe modes, etc. All of these yield the same result: After the XP logo screen comes and goes, where there should be the blue login screen with all the usernames to...
We recently moved every computer in our house to wireless, but we don't have a wireless card (yet) for one of the desktops. Is there any way to connect to the internet via another computer, something I can do with an ethernet cable perhaps? The router is on a different floor and it would be...
What does the Rev 1.3 version of this board do? There are two types being sold on Newegg, which one supports 1333Mhz FSBs?
Also, is there any way I can tell which motherboards in general support a processor that requires a 1333Mhz FSB, such as the E6750?
The last time I looked into computers was around January. Back then, the ASUS P5B-E and P5B Deluxe were ruling the roost, and the Gigabyte DS3 was a very nice C2D motherboard.
I really never knew about any C2Quad motherboards, which is why I asked which ones were compatible, hoping that some of...
I see, well the reviews are quite favorable, even though some people mention the BIOS issues that plagued me and ruined my experience for 9 months.
I still need help with how to identify the motherboards though. Is it dependant on chipsets, or did the mobo manufacturers include this support...
How can I tell which motherboards have Core 2 Quad support? Also, how to tell which ones support the 1333Mhz FSB Core 2 Duos?
Newegg lists some motherboards as not compatible with Core 2 Quads, but the reviews show people using Q6600s and such with them. Newegg also shows which motherboards...
Thanks for the reply.
I was told by someone else to try to see if I could access it in Safemode. I cannot. But when I booted in safemode, I got this error;
Also, when I restart Windows, every time, it says that one of my disks needs to be checked for consistency. The one time that I let it...
My Fraps folder had been growing progressively huge lately. I have an almost OCD-like need to take screenshots in my games, and I'd collected quite a large number over the past few months. There were well over 100K .jpg files in my Fraps folder. Today when I logged on, I found that FRAPS wasn't...
I see, thanks for that. So you pretty much have to look at the label on the side of the PSU as the only way to figure it out. But what if Newegg does not show the label? The Silverstone 500W on Newegg has no picture of the PSU label. Would this mean that there is no way to find out the actual...
So I know that the actual Power output from the +12v rails is not the same as the sum of the two or more rails, so how do you calculate what the actual power output is?
For example, the Antec True Power Trio 550W has 3 +12v rails with 18A on each of them. That's a total of 54 Amps, but that's...
Thanks Dan, yeah the FSB was what I was looking for. A friend complained that he couldn't get his past 400FSB, and that sort of shocked me. He RMA'd it and bought something else.
