I started in the Navy but became allergic to corn (long story) so the Navy gave me a medical discharge 2 years, 5 months and 2 days in to my 6 year enlistment.
During the time in the Navy I saw some examples of digital imaging on computers and since I had done a lot of photography in high...
If nothing else, virualization has given us an excuse to fund some really kick-butt equipment rather than just racking a bunch of single core servers with internal storage.
Yay for VM's! :D
I agree. At a place I used to work, we used to pull those 54G's out of all sorts of small (and medium sized, unfortunatly) companies that finally ponied up to pro shop rather than an IT guy working out of his trunk. (No offense to those guys, you provide a great server to really small companies)...
You have to pay to play. Sorry, it's the way it works.
I agree that 2 DC's are certainly the way to go. besides traffic, the 2nd DC offers some protection against things like a DIT (AD database) corruption and blowing stuff up during major upgrades.
For example, when you do Exchange you...
Just back from Advanced Replacement RMA, so basically NIB but I dont have a lot of use for it anymore.
Specs at: http://www.netgear.com/Products/Switches/SmartSwitches/GS748T.aspx
Overview:
Lifetime Warranty, 48 10/100/1000 ports plus four optional fiber ports, and a 96 Gbps backbone...
I've had some pretty bad luck streaming videos (especially HD) via wireless.
I'm a big fan of SageTV so I can see where the HD Extenders would work nicely here. Silent, pretty cheap ($199) and clean, but you will need ethernet drops where they are and SageTV installed as a server.
Major...
Thanks for making this a sticky! :D
So far it looks like we have 26 confirmed and a number of 'probably' responses. This is looking like it's going to be a blast!
Not the Phoenix area, but we are having a LAn in the Tucson area on the 7th:

We have always been pretty well organized and have ALWAYS had a blast doing this! We are shooting (pun intended) for a bit of BF2 and UT2k4 (oh yeah instagib!) and...
We are known for running a well organized LAN. This will be no exception. There will be Tournaments and prizes supplied by Cross Bones Gaming will be distributed. If things go well, we should have some door prizes also.
Most current info will posted HERE so please check back often for...
I use the Chaintech AV-710 and it seems to be fine. Lot's of support for this card too. It is however only optical out

Same here. Can't wait!
Moved about 200GB between 2 PC's with GB NIC's last night, but only have the 100MB switch. I didn't feel like making a cable and messing with IP's so I just had to wait.
How far are you from the HD transmitters?
I've heard good things about this one:

Well, I hate to have to do this, but I think others might want to know who they are dealing with in the event they chose to businesss with him.
Cliff's Notes: I agreed to purchase the 3200+ plus from him on the 17th. He gave me his PayPal info and I sent payment. The next evening he refunds...

It also shows up on a search if you just use 'rbk' It's 24/7 but gets most of it's use on the weekends and evenings. Otherwise look for =RBK= tags at ESU or HOG. When they get 6, they often start a game on ours.
Karkand rocks, especially 32 player with a 64 player map size! We run that, Ja-la-la-la-la-la-bad and Sharqi most of the time in our rotation. We also ONLY do Infantry Only. I hates da vehicles!
Most of this should have been cleared up a while ago. Try another server if you aren't getting points. I know we have giving points on our server for a couple of weeks now. Last time I played on the ESU server I got nothing.
it's been said before, but infantry only kicks butt.
If you are...
I'm not a big fan of putting together a powerpoint presentation at 480p on a 55" screen.
Makes my eyes hurt.
Plus, I'd also need a mouse and keyboard that would work more than 4' from the TV. I would also have to shut down or minimize my TV app (SageTV) in order to run something else. This...
I'm looking at upgrading my HTPC a little and building a Sage server.
Current specs are a 3400+ (S754), 512MB, NV 6200 AGP, PVR-150 and SageTV V6.0.19
I'm running it at 420P via component cables to my Toshiba Cinema Series 55" HD RP TV. The TV does not support DVI, only Component. It also...
For a few bucks more they have some good deals on 7025 and 7050 boards with the X2 4600+.
Granted you need some DDR2 RAM also, but I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what to get, and these deals keep coming up...
WHS makes it easy to add/span drives. You can do that manually (like many of the WHS features) but it seems like a nice feature that's right down the alley for the HTPC thing.
I've been considering what direction I want to go as well. I have a bunch of machines sitting around at the house...
I've seen those before, but they are a bit too much ($ and power) than what I'm looking for. I think our church had picked up an 800MHZ duron/MB/OBVideo combo a while back and it was cheap. They did a whole machine, minus HDD for about $100-$150. That included the case and CD-ROM. I think the...
I'm looking for sources for some older (aka cheap) SFF stuff. I remember seeing some MB/CPU/Video combos at Newegg a while back that were pretty cheap. They were <800MHZ'ish passive cooled stuff. All the stuff I seem to find now is way to fast and hot running for what I need.
This is for...
I have a Syntax board I'll let go for around $14 plus shipping
-Syntax SV266AD - Socket A with DDR slots. I ran a 1700+ and 2000+ on this in my HTPC. I've upgraded the HTPC, so this goes. I should have the manual around as well. Includes I/O shield.
Some pics with an old CPU installed...
