Is there a specific laptop brand that is considered more reliable than the next? How does acer compare to dell, or gateway; is an IBM worth the xtra $$?
Let me know!
the pic there shows the display to be a blue color... however as the display has a tri-color LED, it is capable of going from red ->blue -> green as well as colors in between.
Does anybody know anything about the Gigabyte GA-7A8DRH motherboard?
I was looking at the ASUS K8N-DRE and the TYAN K8WE however the asus does not have PCI-X or an onboard u320 SCSI controller. The Tyan K8WE S2895 has everything I'm looking for, PCI-X (133MHz), 2 PCIe 16x, onboard SCSI 68pin...
The Mac Mini is virtually useless withought the extra ram. My co-worker and I got the upgrade and another female co-worker got an un-upgraded machine, and for her to open up a browser it takes about a minute. And open office takes about double that time. All I hear is her cursing and screaming...
I have a friend running OSX on his 915 chipset and it runs very nicely. He actually went out and bought the board soley for this purpose. It installs on the board without a hitch. And is quite cool.
I completly agree I can't see anybody being intersted in blu-ray. Why bother? The enthusiasts have been shunned by all the DRM, so who else really cares?
I hadn't heard of the front row developments yet, although I just thought it was a natural evolution for apple to be in the living room. I expect big things from the new apple HTPC release, TiVo killer is right. I would expect it to be in the $600 - $800 ball park, however if they could release...
I think I'm gonna go with the Asus A8N-VM CSM as it seems like the best mobo for the money for a HTPC. That with an AMD 64 processor and it'll be half the price of a Pentium M + mobo combo and the A8N-VM comes with a GeForce 6150 onboard.
It'll be used for gaming as well, which is why i'm considering the dual core. Civ 4 is a great game, but it tends to be pretty heavy on the hardware requirements.
Alright here's my new HTPC system:
ASUS A8N-VM CSM
AMD 64 3200
1GB OCZ PC3200
I'm designing it to be pretty much the cheapest system, with great upgradability. I'm going to carry over my hard drive/keyboard/mouse/case from what I have laying around the house for now. The mobo comes with...
I'm looking for the best Pentium M motherboard, using an intel chipset. I was looking at the i915G chipset, and the ASUS P5GDC-V Deluxe seemed to be a good choice. I'll be using the system as an HTPC in my living room, so HD outs on the mobo are required.
Edit: Still trying to sift through...
Sony doesn't have the platform recognition that someone like Apple does. When apple get's off their asses and makes a media center PC / Consol system they are going to clean up.
Ohh man, thats over 600 a month. That hurts. I had been told that prices in Calgary were pretty high, and they are compared to Manitoba, but there's quite a range for prices here. I lucked out when I found my house though, I'm paying 950 a month for a four bedroom 4 year old house, in a good...
3 screens would defenetly be nice for gaming... if the games were ment for it especially. (proper resolutions). It'll be a lot more interesting once the curved screens start coming out.
New displays will be flexible and you'll be able to shape them in whatever way you want. Unfortunately...
Always have faith in the cracking community. The satellite industry just recently came out with NAGRA2, a new incryption which was supposed to ellinate satellite 'testing', and now less than a year later DishNet has already been cracked. Granted it lasted longer than I thought it would, but even...
yes indeed the old sun SPARCs. The ones in question were close to the PII end of the spectrum, and my analogies of taking over the world were fairly exagerated. The only reason why it was on the drawing board was because I had access to a plethora of these computers (as nobody else wanted them)...
lol justifying a quad board would be rather difficult, but I am trying.
A couple months back a friend of mine and I were playing around with the idea of getting an army of spark boxes to do our bidding. I think they clock in at around 200 Mhz. However, because he worked (key word: 'worked')...
I hadn't really thought of LCDs as being 'easier on the eyes'. But in hind sight I'd have to agree, I sit infront of a LCD all day and it doesn't seem to bother me, whereas a CRT can make my eyes hurt. I side in favor of the 'myth'.
Haha,
Too true, I guess I'll just have to see how everything works out. Other than upgrading my scsii and sata, I probably won't have to do much for the near future, possibly a little bit more ram, bump it up to a gig. Although I think by january I'll be ready to play around with a bit more...
lol, a million bucks is kinda out of my price range. you can get quad opteron boards around $1,500, and that way it would be an extremely scalable system. Although my mouth did water when I was reading about the T1 'green' CPU by sun earlier.
There was a formula for multiprocessing machines...
Edited:
I have had problems with ebay in the past so unless you can recommend a good seller it'd be difficult for me to go with ebay again.
I looked up some heating solutions for the hard drives, and I have a few in mind.
Edit:
I Think I'm going to with a dual opteron mobo :), i was...
I was using a Hercules GeForce3 64MB card. Anyways you make a valid point, the GUI is completely un-nessisary for a server. Will the 15K RPM cheetahs work with a standard PCI controller? i'm considering grabing an interm PCI RAID controller as my onboard controller is only a 50-pin.
I'm going to have to buy a new hard drive, the controller is a Maxtor SATA/150. What hard drive should I get now that I would be able to use in my server when I update? Will a new SCSII work on my old SP700 controller?
Edit: I have to check my controller on my mobo, I checked the specs and it...
I'm glad you brought up the PCI-X dilema. I didn't realize that newer high end RAID controllers require a different type of slot, so I can't get a high end RAID in my SP700.
In that case it looks like I'll probably just get an SATA for a home use file server, and host the website offsite for...
I'll only be hosting a small T-Shirt startup companies website, who will have low hits.
My budget for the server in January will be around $2-3K however I want to start buying some of the components now.
Edit: If I can buy a few higher quality pieces at a time, it is easier to fit it into...
My scsi drive is fairly old, as it is the original drive that came with the computer, circa 1999. I just realized that my SATA drive that I had in the computer is gone as well. (lost in moving)
So it looks like I'm pretty open to solutions, what would you guys get for a storage solution...
Hey guys,
I have a SP700 Dual Xeon, that I'm looking at setting up for a web server. It comes with a built in SCSII Ultra Wide controller. However I've put an SATA controller in it from Maxtor, to go with my 80GB Maxtor HD. How are SATA's for web server applications?
I have a SCSII HD in...
Rotten deal. I've seen some minor bugs while running my Mac as well, but nothing when you compare it to what you have to deal with on a PC. If safari keeps quitting why don't you try firefox, or maybe ensure that you have all the latest updates.
That's all i can think of right now. Hope you...
I see you want the ninja to apear to be looking towards something. Maybe when you pull it onto your computer mess around with some digital effects (if u're interested in that kinda thing) and put some fire in those eyes, like a reflection or eminating glow. The eyes are always the focal point of...
Create an array of LEDs connected via a microcontroller, I haven't had much experiance in this department, but it's first year electronic engineering stuff, connect that to your computer via serial port, mod the LED array into your keyboard connect the serial cable to your comptuer (you will...
I didn't notice that it may have been photoshoped because the pic lagged out my Mac Mini so bad. These things really can have a tough time. Anyways I thought it was a pretty cool idea, kudos.
I was in your boat just a little while ago. Best buy seems to have the best deals around, although it's always dangerous going with a refurb. You should see if you qualify for their BestBuy card, or try to get a card at a few places and then you can take advantage of not paying for a few months...
