Bumping the thread just to say that I ended up buying two corsair RM650x'. It was a bit more than what I wanted to spend but I guess there are worse things in the world than "overspending" on a power supply.
One warning. These power supplies have a bulge in the 24 pin cable where there is...
I built two new rigs (with the 13600kf and 12600kf), each use the Peerless Assassin 120 SE.
The old rigs (both with the i5-8400) that they replaced had stock coolers in them. I replaced the stock coolers, finally, with the Hyper 212 Evo. The 212 in Canada is kinda expensive for what it is. Can...
For the money, there really isn't any competition. At least not in Canada. I bought two of them a couple of weeks ago and I'm pretty happy with them.
I wish I knew more about thermalright, last summer. I finally got around to replacing the stock cooler for my i5-8400 rigs with a hyper 212 evo...
I have some older parts (8th gen Intel stuff and a GTX 770/GTX 1070) that I want to build into new rigs.
I thought a couple of 500W power supplies should be enough for this.
But I am having a really tough time finding anything. Specifically the corsair CX/CXM line.
Anyone know of a decent...
I think I waited a while until I got my first SSD. I think it was a 240gb crucial sata ssd? Since then, I've probably bought 6 more drives. The latest two are 2 1TB nvme m.2 drives from XPG.
I installed Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, Modern Warfare, and Warzone and one of them and instantly...
I usually consult blur-busters when looking at monitors. They have a good list that could be useful. Seems like the one to beat right now is the viewsonic xg270
https://blurbusters.com/faq/120hz-monitors/
edit: I'm a moron, the xg270 is 1080p. @1440p, you are probably looking at xg2703-gs or...
Since we are in the SFFS sub-forum, I'm assuming you want something small.
if you want something that fits an M-ATX board and ATX power supply, your options are limited.
From what I've seen you either have to get something barebones from a chinese e-store, or try out the sliger cerebrus or...
This thing had a good run. I must have had it for about 9 to 10 years.
The coating on it finally wore off. My mouse (naga hex) has pads or feet on the bottom that, I guess, wore down the coating. It finally made using the mouse a bit of a pain as I shifted from clean spots of the pad to...
Well, this is strange. I restarted my computer and after it booted into windows, I went into task manager and disabled all nvidia services. I then started Fallout 4, reset video settings and set god rays to low and shadow distance to medium. Left everything else to my default setting.
Seems...
Yeah, I have the new drivers installed. I'm not quite sure what is up with my system. Maybe I have something loose inside? I built it a few months ago, but never really played any demanding games so haven't noticed any issues until now. I did have issues with audio static though.
Any nvidia 770gtx (2gb vram) users here? I also have an i5 4690k and 16gb of system ram.
I seem to struggle to get anything over 30 fps consistently unless I have most settings on low. I think I need textures on medium and god rays off to get any decent performance.
Anyone else experiencing...
Thanks, that looks interesting.
That is what I am thinking of doing. I have powered speakers for my TV, so I am thinking that I can do optical out to my new DAC and then analog out to the powered speakers.
I just finished reading this thread, completely, and I have to say it is interesting timing. I've been having problems with my computer audio for a while. I have a gigabyte z97-mx gaming 5 board that is supposed to have a decent isolated dac with its own power source.
But I've been experiencing...
I always have a problem with this when I wake my computer up from sleep. The audio through hdmi doesn't work and then I either have to disable the device and re-enable it or restart the pc to get it working again.
Any way to avoid this?
Thanks for more tips, guys.
The talk about switches and other cables made me think...
I had a look around in my cable "bag" (lol) and found an hdmi switch. I'm going to see if this works for me.
Another issue, I think, is pc audio over HDMI is sometimes a pain for me. When I put my PC to...
Thanks for the tips, guys.
Motzinator, I'll look into that. My thinking was that I would buy new passive speakers....but if I can keep them - hey that's would be cool too.
A year or so ago, I set up a 50 inch sony bravia tv in my office.
Right now, I have a pc, three consoles, a cable box attached to it. It is a bit of a pain.
I have some self-powered maudio speakers attached to the tv for audio. The speakers only have two analog inputs. Switching between pc...
I'll have to look into this because it wasn't obvious to me how to "snap" an app. It was just full screen. I'm kind of a "pointing" user. I like to be able to do everything with the mouse rather than keyboard.
I just started using Windows 8, this week. What I don't understand is why MS doesn't give Windows users more options/flexibility on how to manage...windows.
Granted, I'm still new to the OS but it seems we now have full screen apps or the old windows that can stack/cascade/be set side by side...
Thanks. I've got to the point where I re-enable it. But the device manager doesn't actually ask for a driver. Should I go ahead and click on the device and update the driver manually?
edit: pointed to the driver myself...
IT WORKED!
You are a ninja!
Such a simple solution. wow. haha.
Just bumping my thread to say that I have emailed Asus support. Hoping to hear back from them within the next couple of days. I'll update the thread on any progress.
No, it doesn't work with base installation (Windows 8.1). So, perhaps 8.1 (period with or without updates) is not compatible with the adaptor or at least Asus' implementation of it?
edit: I'm just trying to get the lan adapter to work (Ethernet). Nothing I do seems to work.
Responding to my own thread to give an update.
So far, I have:
1. Updated the board's BIOS, and
2. Reinstalled Windows
3. updated windows (this included an optional update for NVidia drivers).
(have not installed any chipset drivers yet).
that didn't work, still can't install the driver...
UPDATE - VERY SIMPLE SOLUTION IN POST 6 AND 7.

I just bought the VS24AHP. As far as I know it is the same display just a different stand and ergonomics. Games look great to me on the monitor. I adjusted brightness to 9 and RGB to 100/98/97.
Haven't ever used that AOC monitor.
I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty satisfied with the Asus...
Replying to my own thread for an update.
Got the monitors last night. Very good colour. Glad I got these. Very satisfied for the price. Was surprised at the difference in colour reproduction.
Monitors are very bright though. Have brightness set to 9 out of 100.
Don't see any ghosting when...
I don't really think I'll have a problem with 60hz. Been using it now since I got the viewsonic vp201 (in 2004). I'm used to matte monitors. Apparently the AG coating isn't too bad on this one.
Found a review on prad.de
They gave it a rating of good...
I guess I didn't give enough info for folks to go on.
I had posted this on neogaf as well, didn't get any advice. Can't blame anyone, but myself, really.
However, I did some research and settled on two Asus VS24AH-P 24 inch monitors...
Hey there, I'm looking to replace my monitors (my secondary monitor broke) and would love some advice.
I'm thinking of getting two 24 inch monitors with 1080p.
My budget is about 300 bucks per monitor.
Any suggestions? I mostly play video games and watch youtube videos on my monitors. I...
Well, I think I am now having the same problem as Vasta. I can hear certain channels but not others. For instance, I can hear system sounds, audio from games, music in media player but I cannot hear audio from youtube videos.
Anyone else experience this? Have any tips?
Bumping the thread just to say that I figured out what was wrong.
It was the connection from the front of my pc case to the motherboard. It had been knocked loose. So the power switch on the case just wasn't working. That also explains the problems I was having with the front usb ports...
Hey there, thanks for the tips. Just a question. How do I reset the bios? Take the motherboard battery out?
Fightingfi, thanks for the tips. I'm beat now, had a long week. I'll try these out tomorrow.
Hi there, last night I put my windows 7 machine to sleep. Today I cannot get it to start. It is not just a problem booting, but it looks like it is an issue with power.
I've reseated the power cable going to the power supply and I have switched the power switch on the psu multiple times...
Anyone here have tips for upgrading to Windows 8? Or at least have a link to some decent tips?

See update below!
So I now have this keyboard, however, it seems to be doa. I restarted the computer to see if that would help, but my computer won't even boot with the keyboard attached.
When I disconnected the board, the computer finally booted. Anyone know of a solution? Is this a...
