Hi-Vi drivers while of very good quality are obviously very "inspired" by Dynaudio and some Focal designs.
TangBand for example is a more creative company, the drivers they offer are unique.
Revel is about the only company that can compete price and quality with Dynaudio, Paradigm and PSB while competitive fall short(I have Paradigm's Signature series and PSB Silver ...BTW). Usher makes some nice speakers and quite good quality drivers, the new series using diamond domes tries to...
First let me get a few things clear.
Dynaudio does NOT use Hi-Vi drivers and will never use them. Dynuadio is the real deal while Hi-Vi is a Dynaudio copycat.
....$70 Hi-Vi woofers...LOL Please these are Dynaudio mid-bass drivers and these run around $150 each. The amps ,drivers and...
I have the Dyanudio Contour and Confidence and do not run them full range, they are cut 70hz on down...
I use JL Audio and TC Sounds to reproduce the depths, nothing like a properly matched sub arrays.
As for the tiny B&W PC speakers they are overpriced , get some Genelec or ADAM monitors...
Who am I on Head-Fi... I am not even on Head-Fi. Cannot post, I joined and when I try to post anything or reply it says I do not have permission! Waste of time
Too bad because I am getting the Emmeline and Woo Audio finest headphone amps and a few other gems.
My new arrivals !
Beyerdynamic Tesla and Audio Technica portable sealed...this completes the current upscale over and on ear headphone collection. [:P] Yes when I decide to have them all...I get them all. Next up collectors ubber Sony and all the Stax electrostatics... [:O] I shall have...

The moderator is correct, a picture thread is a picture thread. No discussion , or the GOULAG awaits. The people here have no idea how deep the great purge goes. :p
Headphones for studio use are on or over the ear monitors. A monitoring headphone must be as neutral as possible, offer a high resolution and be well built.
In this respect there are a few headphones that qualify.
Shure SRH440 and 840(smoother sounding more expensive brother of the 440)...
Lets see...
UltraSone Special 8, Grado PS-1000, Sennheiser HD800, AudioTechnica ATH-W5000, Denon D7000 are alone worth $6000. Then the rest a mere...5000-6000(not seen clearly are many upscale in ear). Around $12000 in headphones, not counting the $4000 of headphone amps on the way.
Still...
Pics before the Grace Design m902 arrives on the desk...and finally I added my second Wadia dock to my secondary system.
My messy(with headphones) putter desk...
and from the other side...
My latest arrivals! :p
Next up will be the Stax collection and Beyer Dynamic Tesla when it comes out(on order)
For now...
Now in a pile O headphones,cheapies and High-End. :o
The M-Audio AV30 and 40 are not too bassy, they are very sensitive to boundary placement. As they are tuned high they will sound very boomy when placed close to walls.
Having a console or elevating/angling the speakers will help alot. For best results I use Auralex MoPad dense foam...
And the Audio-Technica ATH-W5000 finally arrives! :D Soon the Beyer Dynamic Tesla and Ultrasone Special 8 will too...:p
Now I am ordering a fully decked Woo Audio dual chassis headphone masterpiece to do these gems justice.
Here some pics of my growing headphone collection...
Latest family pic,the Denon AH-D7000 sounds fantastic. Seriously impressed with the sound quality these closed back headphones offer, also least expensive of the three by a descent margin!
How does the HD800 stack up...
Quite simply the most refined headphones money can buy south of the STAX flagship electrostatic headphone/amp combination !
Denon's flagship sealed have more impressive bass, the Grado flagship has more monitor like analitical soundbut...the HD800 is so balanced...
The headphone collection(half of the headphones I own pictured) is growing and growing...
Next week it will grow again! Denon and Audio Technica flagship style.
Rossi...
Pointless ,this was to show my newest powered monitors. Only the Focal and Genelec are in place during day to day use. The Dynes along with ADAM are used with my second system. Placament is better than 90% of the setups I see, pointless it is not.
Ah here my brand new Sennheiser...
The placement is much better than it looks in the pic, the BM 5A's went to my second PC, the Focal and Genelec are in ideal spots(to the sitting position). The speakers are just over 20" from the rear wall, Auralex 4" thick panels plus bass traps are being installed. That room is more "dead"...
No Insignas here just Genelec 8030, Focal CMS 50 and Dynaudio BM 5A's. Sound cards MOTU 828mk3 and RME Fireface 400. Sounds better than OEM PC speakers. ;p
Here is my current PC music setup,
Consisting of powered monitors from Genelec,Focal and Dynaudio. Headphones from Grado,Shure,Klipsch,Sennheiser,AKG and Denon.
Sound card not in pic RME Fireface 400, MOTU 828mk3 sound cards.PC is a Intel i5 750/8GB(4x2GB)RAM/Crucial SSD 256GB x 2, ASUS ATI...
Multiple subs for what is called an array and this in turn lowers distortion. As each driver works very little. Also the most important goal here is to get a flat frequency response to near DC. Something no commercial sub can acomplish(save for fan subs that require to have a LARGE second space to...
Why all this sub, because I want total freedom from any audible stress at any frequency to near DC at SPL I I will never use. Because gobs of headroom is my goal,I am not impressed by pretty looking "audiophool" tiny speakers and subs that claim impossible performance as it is limited by cone...
Here is the most capable subwoofer system in a small room, you will see(close to completion). Fed by eight 15AMP , six 20AMP and four 30AMP dedicated lines.
Just one sub module away (Acoupower 18) from finishing...
Will be completed in November when two more 18"...
Crown XTi 2000 and 4000 subwoofer amps...
Ah yes...QSC PLX2 subwoofer amp,FaceAudio subwoofer amp...
Many more to come...:p
In total ~50KW worth in power amps will be used to power 20 drivers ,ten 15's and ten 18's. Forming a subwoofer array.
Placing the so called subs of the desk improves sound quality.
As to why it is very simple,if you understand acoustics just a tiny bit. ;)
Let me explain...
The tiny sats are crossed over to the bass module(the correct name)at a frequency that is quite directional. Also PC speakers...
Now some raw drivers for a few subs....
Dual Mach5 IXL 18.4's
SoundSplinter 15D2's
CSS SDX15's
AudioPulse REVO 15's
Acoupower 18's
Exodus MAelstrom-X and ubber drivers to come...in a few months...
The putter system section contains some...non putter speakers!
Putter speakers,Dynaudio Contour 1.1's
Putter Sunfire D8 sub
And now some HT...subwoofer amps...
With smilies it does.
Back to the topic at hand audio...post pics people do not be shy.We need to see your deluxe sound systems.
Joey,
Where are you hiding, did you get the Velodyne DD18?
Exactly
Maybe the vaccum inside the cabinet is so great when this woofer's cone travels 50mm out,the dustcaps fail under pressure. :p
More of a foot or fingers are guilty, likke 99.999999% of pushed in dustcaps and dome tweeters and midranges! :o
Liquid cooled. LOL
They use a tiny drop of oil on the VC to transmit any heat from the tiny tweeter VC to the tiny magnetic structure.
These 80-90's speakers magnets are aroun d 10-15oz almost strong enough to damage the vintage TV. :p
I bet this is done with savings on happy meals . :p
If only I was close,I would snag this sub NOW. Well to much hassle. You better get it Joey,or I am calling your parents and they are taking your lunch money away($2500K in this case). :p
I will ahve to get a new DD18 ...I will...
Joey,
This is a very good subwoofer, good is a weak term here.An great sub, accurate and has plenty of output, plus will dig sea deep.
For only 2K you should JUMP on it NOW! :)
I will get the 1812,my HGS18 does not need another 18" Velo stack pal. LOL
So ...go buy it NOW. Have your...
