Current setup is low to mid range:
X2 555 BE (not unlockable) @ stock clocks
Biostar A880G+
Sapphire 5830 @ stock clocks
8GB RAM
I can swing $150 for an upgrade. Would my money be better spent on a marginal GPU upgrade (6870?) or maybe an X4 or even X6 CPU? Or nothing at all? It will be a...
I bit. It's buried in the Newegg deals and IMO, good enough for its own thread.

I do not have the MBP in front of me and am just guessing on the year, but the DVD drive inside my sister's MBP has crapped out and needs to be replaced. Does anyone know how much Apple would charge for this, or if it's not possible to do myself? Time for a USB drive?
Do you install these? The ones where you have to visit the knowledgebase to see what they do. The description and title in Windows update is vague at best.
After showing my friend my setup, he wants one of his own. Though he is starting completely from scratch.
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Web browsing, streaming netflix, watching blu ray, MAYBE light gaming, watching TV, MAYBE some professional engineering programs (Catia).
2)...
Setup: 5830 HDMI -> Denon 591 HDMI -> LG HDTV HDMI
What happens: I have not timed how many minutes this takes, but it is not immediate. It's at least several minutes. If I turn off the receiver OR switch to another input, eventually the HDD/Power light (same light) on my HTPC just steady...
Got this in my email this morning and didn't see it posted yet.
32MB cache, 7200 RPM.

This might be a paranoid thing I picked up from when I first started building PCs, but I've always heard to not put case fans on the same set of cables that is powering your HDDs. If it is safe to put HDD, optical drive, and (3) fans on the same set of cables, I have the potential for a very...
$500 Home Theater and Light Gaming PC
I need the following components:
AMD CPU
Mobo
HDD
Case
PSU
Blu Ray reader
DDR3 RAM
AMD Video card
Windows 7
For as close to $500 shipped as I can get. I have wireless KB/M. No overclocking... just stability and as cool/efficient as I could...
I want to replace the DVD drive in my 3 year old Vostro 1500 with an internal blu ray drive with the sole purpose of backing up blu rays (and DVDs). The machine itself will not be able to watch any blu ray. I want to put my movies into formats that I can use on my nook color.
Is there...
So who picked one up for $200 shipped + tax in the ebay sale?
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1589358
10,229 sold as of right now. Too bad I can't tell exactly when the coupon code started, as I'd like to know how many are being sold a minute, hour, etc.
Anyway... assuming it...
Tired of FPS, 3rdPS, and RPG for awhile. I want to be a certified badass with a sword, killing things. Good story line a plus.
Gonna have to skip on Ninja Gaiden, and I've played the Fable series. Basically anything else is wide open. Was thinking Bayonetta? EDIT: looks like bayonetta has...
1) Do the rest of your networked PCs see the (rooted) Nook? Basically, if I buy some Amazon MP3s on it, can I pull them over the network to my main PC? My main PC stores all my stuff and that's what I use to sync my ipods.
2) Is there any internal memory on it or is it just the removable SD...
Hey guys (and the few gals)
I'm in the market for a UPS. This is the one I am looking at:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16842106116
Thoughts? Recommendations? Any of you fellow geeks have any experience with this particular model or brand? My last one was an APC...
I had 11 days off in a row so I beat Mass Effect 1 and just started on Mass Effect 2.
I miss ME1 dearly.
1) Having to pick up ammo is a huge step back.
2) Where is my equipment screen so I can swap out weapons and ammo and armor and upgrades?
3) How did we go from having guns that didn't...
This is less of an HTPC and more of a light-gaming in the living room PC. I'll browse the net and play some games with it. Music, etc. I kind of want to add a TV card to use with my OTA HD antenna. I have a standalone Blu-ray player.
I have an HD 4830 with native HDMI that I plan to use. It...
I have a Sapphire HD4830 w/ native HDMI that I want to use in a multipurpose HTPC. It won't play Blu-ray or any movies, but it will play music and games.
I'm curious what audio signal it will output to my home theater receiver? I'd like my receiver (somewhat good) to do any and all decoding...
In the market for a new laptop.
Wants:
Windows 7
Faster than a C2D
4GB RAM
NOT desktop replacement, and NOT ultra portable. A good in-between size.
Not really a PC Gamer, but it would be sweet to be able to play the newest Colonization remake, which I don't think takes much graphics...
I have an otherwise trustworthy Dell Vostro 1500 with a horrible battery in it. Like 20 minutes bad. Is there a "Newegg" of batteries? What's the best place? Looking to not spend a bunch, but I don't want a fire hazard or complete POS either.
And why?
The idea of walking into Best Buy or looking at Newegg for a laptop has always felt wrong to me. I've always been the type to go to Dell or HP's website and configure one and buy directly through them.
I'll be either building an HTPC and keeping this older laptop or getting a new...
I have had a standard HTIB + TV setup for 2 years now and am getting the itch to go full HTPC. But the first step is getting a receiver with some HDMI inputs. If I were to add an HTPC right now it would have to be HDMI to my TV's HDMI inputs, then out to my receiver/speakers for sound. This is...
