Got mine and I love it. I cannot provide fancy calibration numbers and such, but it exceeds my expecations. Thank you to LOLANG and the Dell rep who helped me out on the early discount. I also want to thank 10e for obvious reasons.
(As an aside, why isn't oled banned yet? He brings nothing of...
A bit OT, perhaps, but when does Dell's 100% satisfaction period kick in? When they ship it, or when it's delivered? The reason I ask is that mine is supposed to be here on Monday, but I live directly in the path of hurricane Irene and delivery may be delayed for a while depending on how bad the...
Adding my thanks to LOLANG. I just ordered one from his contact at Dell and got the nice discount. Fingers crossed (and not really expecting it to be here in a week lol).
When the U2412M was announced I was thrilled because I had all but given up hope that any new 16:10 monitors fitting my price-performance criteria would ever be released by anybody. I was afraid that 16:10 was on its way to extinction.
10e, I want to join those thanking you for your...
Blame idiots, not XP. I've been running XP since it came out and have NEVER run any anti-virus software on it. I have NEVER been infected by any virus, trojan, bot zombie or any other kind of malware. The one time my computer slowed way down last year turned out to be a hard drive hardware...
I'm in the same boat. There's a new Fujitsu 24" 16:10 IPS monitor that's just been announced. As far as I can tell, there are no reviews of it yet. The linked article claims it uses the same panel as the ZR24W.
Is this urban legend still making the rounds? Don't look now but there are many flavors of DRM that haven't been cracked. What comes out of your cable box over firewire, recent bluray discs, the whole Vista protected content path, satellite TV in its latest incarnations.
Too many people...
Taking things to their logical conclusion ;) if you aren't $$$ constrained, you could pick up a new case + power supply for about $150 (plus or minus 50) and set yourself up for future upgrades without the Dell proprietary hassle.
On the low-tech side here... I don't know for sure about the Gen4, but Dell has been known to have non-standard motherboard mounting holes, connector placement and cable harnesses on some of their motherboards. You might want to double-check that everything is going to physically line up with...
Prices are not rising yet. The low point for prices is expected to come some time in May according to analysts who base their predictions on reports and statements by Micron and Hynix, among others. A month from now the deals will be better than they are today. After that prices will probably...
I am amazed by the amount of bad information posted here.
1. Alcohol (the rubbing kind) is not bad for the screen surface. Most manufacturers, in fact, recommend a diluted alcohol solution for cleaning (50-50 with H2O).
2. Windex does NOT contain ammonia UNLESS it's a bottle marked "with...
6 vs 8 bit panels will be noticeable if you do a lot of work with graphics programs like Photoshop. Tradeoff: 6 bits = less colors, faster response time while 8 bits = more colors, slower response time.
BB and CC are the same way. They look to sell the Wow! factor but people who want to do...
Fantastic deal if you need a sound card upgrade. Gotta love the first feature on the CC website: "Better-than-original sound". I admire products that defy the laws of physics.
Went to Staples at 6:30 PM and got a MS optical wireless mouse for $15. Then went to BB and got PNY 1GB Attache USB drive for $20 AR. No hassles, not waiting in line, no problem. Anyone who thinks BF is "fun" or who would wait in line for any store needs to have their head examined. Seriously.
I must be one of the people affected by the LCD "screen door" effect. I bought a Dell 1905FP about 6 weeks ago and sent it back. Maybe it was all in my head but every time I looked at it it was like lokking through a screen door. There are other reasons why I still prefer CRTs but it's...
Thanks, OP! It would have been another month or so before I saw that on my own. Looks like the VP191b has been officially pulled. First sign of a great monitor: you never see it on a [H]ot Deals page anywhere.
Tom's site is clueless at times. Right off the top Benoit says pulling the...
There are some tips here about this exact problem. Almost inaudible. Not enough for a technician to hear but enough to drive you mad. The good news is it probably doesn't mean the monitor is on its way out. The bad news is the noise is likely caused by a transformer or other hard-to-pin-down...
What's a "category killer"?
Dell's sales for the 3rd quarter were up 11% over last year but fell short of forecast sales by $400 million. They also had to pay $300 million to replace faulty capacitors on their Optiplex systems. The conference call just started and they're trying to spin the...
Excellent! I saw a news article recently about an oversuply of LCD panels expected to last through 2006. Do you recall seeing anything about that in your investor's news? I'm trying to figure out whether or not LCD prices will tumble soon
Now we will see what really happened. Michael Dell and other Dell bigshots will talk about Dell's 3rd quarter in a live webcast on Thursday. It looks like Dell's stock hit a new 52-week low last week. Should be interesting.
Get a grip, pal. You told the OP that aperture grille lines are "annoying" and said it like it was common knowledge that everyone agrees with. If you had said "IMO" in the first place then I wouldn't have bitched at you.
I don't think so. Last time I looked this was a public discussion...
I like Tom's Hardware Guide for reviews but that's the last place I go when looking for them. Why? Because they're always behind the times. A few days ago on Nov 4 they posted their "Fall Lineup" review of LCD monitors. Think they reviewed the Samsung 940? Nope. How about the Viewsonic...
Interesting. The Westinghouse specs page says it can display 16.2 million colors which indicates it's a 6-bit panel, but if you read the User Manual (link is on that page) it says (on page 13) it's an 8-bit panel that can display 16.7 million colors!
This Macworld review says it has a few...
There are millions of aperture grille CRT owners out there who are not bothered one bit by the thin wires visible across the screen, myself included. Anyone who flat out calls them "annoying" isn't offering an objective opinion.
Oh I agree 100%. If you're not a real picky gamer it's definitely good enough for games, and s superior display for many other tasks. If my theory is right they'll be replacing them with a new lineup just because they have to keep up with the Jonses, so to speak. When everyone else is...
Bzzzzzzt! Wrong. But thanks for playing. :p
Even Dell only claims 12 ms.
PRAD reports it's 12 ms for grey-to-grey rsponse time, but an overall average of 16 ms.
THG measured it for themselves and found it was closer to 20 ms.
If the response time of the 2405FPW was 8 ms I would have...
They have to have new models almost ready to go. The current crop has been out for about a year now and Dell needs to introduce panels that offer 8-12 ms response time, if not lower. Every other manufacturer has these speeds now and Dell will follow suit. My prediction is their 19, 20, 21 and...
Maybe it is a reason. Nobody here has any idea how their quarter is shaping up. Their fiscal year ends after the next quarter at the end of January so if they need to boost sales for the entire fiscal year there might be better deals then. IF they need to do that.
Check out Dell's stock...
I was looking for the answers to similar questions and didn't get a lot of replies. One thing I do know is that when they ship out a new one to you the 21 day clock will NOT start over again. In my opinion you should RMA for a complete refund. Then buy it again and you will get a new 21 days...
