    Raid noobie partitioning questions

    Once you have set up the striped set, the OS only sees one drive. It is in effect one drive so just format and do everything normally. You will have created one drive that is striped. No matter what you use, just divide the space by three (if you decide to go that way) and format any way you like.

    Mounting hard drives vertically

    My manuals show how they can be mounted and basically udside down and rightside up horizontal and vertical is OK. I would imagine the inertia that the heads have to counteract is much greater than gravity, and what is added up, is subtracted down so it should be a wash if anything.

    I just thought that maybe folks just starting to look into RAID might need a little background on the various options. Not all cards can do all RAID configurations, so decide what you wnat to do, then buy your system, not the other way around. 9to5computers...
