Hard Drive Reliability Stats From 1B Drive Hours

With such low defect rates it amazes me how warranty replacements are refurbished/previously broken. I usually order 10 at a time and on occasion have seen batches with 60% failure rate within warranty period. Other times 1-2%. Certain models have poor reliability within a manufactures sku.

server for my dads small business, simply accounting

Does one really need a server for a 5 user accounting office, that wishes to share 100+ Simply files? 10+ users or potential to grow into would be a definite yes. Seriously look at what a plain Win7 Pro/CoreI3/RAID1/USB external HD Backup tower would cost. With AV of choice(server AV can be...

    bad wireless range d-link dir-655

Not entirely that simple. Google is your friend here. Basically if you use a second 655 it will have the same ip addy as the first so you need to disable dhcp and set it to a static ip out of the range of the first 655. Lots of articles on the dlink forum. I use ASUS 520GU, flashed with...

How much would you charge for this service?

Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image. Directions come with the software. Setup one system, then make an image onto USB HD or DVD and then write image to other 4 units. Licensing will be whack for office and XP, but it works like a charm if no MS audit. Cheers!

Intel Letting Customers Upgrade Underpowered Chips

Is pure genius from Intel if you can get the public to swallow it. We are talking about the sub 400.00 sector here. Get your laptop for 369.00 and upgrade to 10% faster down the road(bigger difference than ram upgrade). Or pay 419.00 now. This is a world of difference to the people these...

Setting up 17 workstations: a quicker way?

We had to deploy 20 workstations in an accounting firm. Setup one unit to perfection and used Norton Ghost to image it. Deployed image to other 19 units. Windows 7 - Folder sharing question

How do I figure out what wireless security a wireless card is compatable with?

MAC filtering is an extra layer that I think is really not needed in a home environment. When friends visit and bring there kids, it seems everyone has a wireless device. I simply give them my password and everyone's happy. I do change the pass 3 or 4 times a year. Cheers!

    Microsoft Investigating Windows Flaw

I don't get it. XP, Visat32/64 and Win732/64 are full of holes that get exploited. They all contain code that can be manipulated/exploited. Anybody can go to the wrong sites and click on everything they see and get infected with nasties that sail on by the AV of choice. To bad Combofix...
