Cheers mate - good advice.
I'm just a little gutted - thinking that if I pickup a Core i7 - I won't be able to make full use of it due to the HDD.
Guess I'll just need to pickup an SSD when 128Gb or 256GB versions are affordable.
I'm going to upgrade my rig to a probably a Core i7 930 very soon.
With this fancy new PC the only thing that will be holding me back is a crusty old WDC Blue 640gb.
So I'm weighting up my options.
SSD's are still to expensive for me (Im in New Zealand where a 64Gb SSD is $250+)
I can...
Awesome! Glad to see that working now...I didn't want to ruin my dual set of ASUS 22's with some randy Displayport monitor...Just have to get my hands on a third :)
Hey guys,
I recently replaced my 9600GT SLI setup for a single Radeon 4870.
See my specs below, I play at 1680x1050.
After I put the card in I did driver cleaner in safe mode, and installed the latest drivers.
I started up Need for Speed Shift...and the resulting weren't exactly...
By the time I convert some New Zealand dollars into USD, ship it over here, probably will nearly cost roughly the same.
After looking at this:
I'll probably go with the 4870.
** Before reading please realise I'm in New Zealand where everything is twice if not more expensive
See my specs below, pretty old setup nowdays. I'm holding out for Core i7 but I still think it's too early to bite the bullet and upgrade.
I've recently got another 9600GT and put them into...
Alright cheers guys. Looks like the 4850 is it, its a pretty good upgrade and won't cost me the earth.
Getting stuff shipped internationally typically and costs a lot of money. Not to meation its coming a long way and will take a few bumps.
They are hard prices. Its crazy the amount of money...
I've just upgraded from two Philips 17inchs to two ASUS 22inchs.
Really happy with my new monitors.
Only problem is, is my 9600GT was struggling with 1280x1024 resolution. Now it has to deal with 1680x1050.
Overall my PC is old. I don't want to do a full upgrade at the moment. I'm holding...
Man... how on earth could I possibly remember the onboard video for our first computer? =P It ran Age of Empires 1 just fine though.
Video cards I actually remember having:
S3 8mb Onboard Video
Radeon 7500
Radeon 9200
Radeon 9600 Pro
Radeon 9600XT
Geforce 6600GT
Radeon X1950Pro...
Far Cry 2 - Terrible game... Could of been so much better if you could go prone, lean, and if it had a exciting storyline... and if the AI wasn't thick as a plank. Yup it was pretty bad.
Call of Duty World At War - It's ok...But COD1 sounded and played better. Feels like a cheap medal of...
Cheers guys, thanks for all your help.
I'm lining up a new PC at the moment... So I'll see how on get on with the onboard audio with my new motherboard.
Sometime next year I'll definitely look into buying a real sound card & speakers.
Because at the moment I have some fail 'Nicole...
That sound card is well over $300 in New Zealand.

Isn't there something moderately priced that will do the job?
Yes it will be used mostly for gaming. But spending that much money on a sound card is pretty crazy. I'd pay $84 American...
I've been using on-board audio for a long time now.
Recently my on-board audio has kinda died. My mic port is no longer working and my audio output doesn't produce enough sound to use my headphones. So I resorted to busting out an old Creative Sound blaster Live (terrible under Vista, but mic...
Far Cry 2 is terrible. Don't buy it please.
It's so boring and the ending is terrible.
I haven't even been able to test multiplayer because there aren't any servers!~#
Has anyone else tried this?
We're trying to play Nazi Zombies on COD5, theres four of us:
Me, my brother, and a couple of mates.
One of our mates hosts.
Me and my brother of course live at the same place and have the same IP address.
We both have our own copies of COD5.
But we both...
That is indeed the fix, I disabled my sound card yesterday and it starting working... I then changed the Hz and then Bobs your Uncle and it works :D
So far...the game isn't brilliant...Feels like an old Medal of Honor Game.
A step back from COD4.
This is so gay.
I've downloaded it and installed the game.
I got that Direct X error looking for the file d3dx9_37.dll.
Threw that in, it boots, black screen, then it crashes.
Spitting out an "unhandled exception caught"
I've got Vista 32bit. Installed in my bros PC, he's got Vista...
Yeah not exactly new technology but extremely helpful to the guys who haven't discovered it yet.
Gigabyte has these with all their boards now I believe, 100% better than those nasty old red ones.
Ok I've gone back to my onboard, found some new drivers and it's pumping out some decent sound from my speakers.
But when I plug my headset in, even on loudest I can only just hear it, I just tried another headset and that has the same problem (headets completely different brands and both work...
Sound is something I've never been terribly fussed on.
Sure it'd be awesome to have a fancy setup but most of the little money I have goes into the real stuff like new CPUs and Video Cards.
Recently I brought a headset and my onboard audio sucks. It's not loud enough and doesn't even provide...
Cheers I've changed mine now.
No difference when I changed it.
But thankfully I have found the problem, if I put my computer to sleep and rip out my Mouse it finally sleeps!
I did some more research and it is this little bugger:
Uncheck that and it works like a charm!
Thanks...
Hmmm alright progress.
I've always had my bios on S3, so that's fine.
I did indeed overclock my system when my got my new video card.
I just returned everything to stock settings now.
I went to put it asleep. Monitor went off, but everything is still on. Then after twenty seconds this time...
Damn this is an annoying problem and Google isn't really helping me.
Here's the deal:
About two months ago I could get Vista to go to sleep and wake up without any problems.
Since then, I've brought a new Video card (X1950Pro to a 9600GT now), reinstalled Windows Vista and installed...
Damn straight, I actually brought this game because it looked awesome and overall the game was bit of a let down.
I've only played through it once and I want to again on my 9600GT but I can't say I've played it very much online... because it lags.
Well I finally upgraded from a MSI X1950pro to a ASUS 9600GT and it's been a pretty nice refresh.
Although I can't really say I was expecting to get the "chick" version of the card... I was expecting to get this:
But instead of I got this:
But never mind.
It also appears they...
