Is there any chance you have got a review for the Asus Rampage DDR2 in the works?
I have based a lot of my builds over the years on what you guys have given high marks to, and have had great success doing so. I'm waiting to see what the community has to say about the Rampage but I really am...
How is the 2490 for gaming? Beautiful stills are one thing...fast paced FPS with full on features are what I want to use it for.
Just too damn many different types, models, prices of LCD's
Is there any 24" lcd that will be close to my GDM FW900 in perf and function?
The reason I run it @ 1280x1024 is because at 1600x1200 the text is pretty small and it will only stay stable/doesn't vibrate at 60hrz, having a 8800GT card doesn't seem to make any difference either. ....at the larger rez i can run it at 100hrz so I get no flicker = no migrains.
I stretch...
I currently have a sony GDM FW900 24" CRT that is starting to get the jitters, so I am thinking about going to a Dell 24 or 27 incher LCD. However, I noticed the refresh rates at the rez i like (1280x1024) is only 60hrz? ....60hrz on the Sony shows terrrible flickering, and gives me a headache...
take out those stupid copper thingy's ...I'm not sure what the idea behind em was but none of my expansion cards would fit right until i yanked those all out and ditched the "tool-less" plastic tab securing stuff. Good old screws work just fine.
Hello,
I've taken air cooling as far as i can go with my thermaltake armor and am thinking about WC my next build. I have been looking over some different products and would appreciate thoughts, and comments, good or bad, about this case...
I think you got plenty of Wow factor going on already Gunner, I just think that the home CNC tool was the dogs bollocks for neat toys...You could make a wooden screen and or fan grills with it ;)
If they are two tiny horizontal lines equidistant from each other and top and bottom they are in all Trinitron screens. I can't even see the ones in mine anymore, but I have been using Trinitron monitors for over 6 yrs now. At first they seem very annoying but after a while you don't even notice...
Now all you need is one of these to really add the custom "wow" factor

oh second thought occured although too late: If you can get a small punch that is the same diameter of the rivet core, just punch out the center from the head side of the rivet. Then work the punch in a circular pattern inside the rivet thus cutting the head off. This way you don't...
Since anodizing is a chemical etch process that eats into the aluminum only about 3 or 5 microns roughly, why didn't you just start off sanding the panels instead of messing with chemical stripping? Also I would finish it up with alum oxide scotchbright pads (prior to using compounds) to make...
I have the Armor, so I can only comment on it.
1) It's friggen heavy, if you never need to move it you'll be alright. If you are a lan party type forget it.
2) the peripheral slots have funky plastic locks and some copper bushing/bracket thing that just make mounting things like graphics...
Fantastic work M8, If you aren't a finish carpenter by trade, you sure could be. I haven't seen fine cabinet building like that done since my Dad retired from contracting. Anyone can build a box, but skills are truly appreciated.
ahh ok, I appreciate the clarification. I'm at that point where I didn't build a new box when the C2D's were "new" and now newer "better" stuff is just around the corner...ugh. stuck watching the technology train go by again trying to find the best time to "jump on".
I paid 4 bones for mine way back when Mathesar started this thread I was pretty nervous dealing with e-bay, and the shipping since it is so damn heavy..can't count how many boxes I've gotten from brown that looked like they fell off the truck onto the freeway en rout. It is worth every penny...
Sorry for the nub question:
Is there a distinct functional difference between mobo's that are labled "crossfire" vs "SLI" or is that pretty much marketing hype?
I really like the looks of the above listed board for a new build but ain't going near ATI for a graphic solution got GTX's...
I'm beginning to wonder if mathesar isn't actually the guy sellin em ....LOL j/k
Mine arrives tomorrow, needless to say i'm itchin to see what the F.E.A.R demo looks like going through my BFG 7800gtx oc on that big arsed screen :)
happy to hear sombody got one that works,
I did try the abit forums but the more i read through all the issues there, and just the frustration I have had dealing with the ones I got i'm done with abit. 238.00 for a mobo that still doesn't function properly is just too much.
I may be...
err.
Ok so I installed the ASUS board and the nf4 drivers, AND the Nvidia NAM software and I was able to connect to the internet. Do you have to install the NAM firewall and manager software? it didn't seem to work otherwise.
ABIT sucks, did the same thing with the abit board and got...
Ok I have an ABIT Fatality SLI and an ASUS A8N-SLI
Both boot and work flawlessly except for one thing. Neither of these sumbitches will let me connect to the internet through the nvidia ethernet.
I installed the boards, then winblos XP pro sp2, then the drivers 6.66, and the latest bios...
nothing in event viewer, not sure what loopack pinging is.
Heres the kicker, Today I went and bought a ASUS A8N-SLI and have the exact same issue, the dweebs at comcast tell me the net is fine and my modem is working from what they can see, and all my settings are correct.
I can't be the...
Ok so I bought an ABIT Fatality AN8 Sli ...
ok now that you've all stopped laughing I need some pointers.
the LAN doesn't work and for some reason I can't get a PCI NIC to work right either, everything looks as it should in under device mgr, network connections and IE, no errors or yellow...
DO NOT get the ABIT fatwanker AN8
I got one, actually i'm on my second since I had to RMA the first one due to a defective LAN connenctor, they were nice enough to replace my brand new defective board with a USED (power on hours was 1168) defective board which still doesn't work correctly...
Umm If I were you I would take a good look at Sony's 42" 3 lcd projection set since it's only 1999 and it has all the tuners you need built into it. I just recently got the 55" and coudln't be happier with the unit.
part number is KDFE42-A10
Well I just stepped up and bought one of the Sony's and lemme tell ya the current pucker factor is about 9.5, since I have never purchased anything from ebay before. but one would be hardpressed to find a better deal on a 24" CRT I just hope i'm not dissapointed in the long run, 400.00 is a fair...
I appreciate the pointers plywood :)
flashing the bios did nothing for fixing the LAN or PCI1 I can't even run a NIC card on this pile of shiat. the PCI slot only works for a minute then does nothing.
Just for shits and giggles I'm going to RMA this POS back to chinatown and maybe in a...
that's the only thing I have not done yet to correct the Lan/pci problems with this board. I have been reluctant to mess with flashing the bios just cause, but I've got nothing to lose at this point.
Will do as you suggested and hope it fixes these issues, I registered on the ABIT forums 4...
I've come to the conclusion the "fat wanker" board as another member of the forum referred to it as is a fitting name.
Not only is the ethernet connector AFU out of the box, but after trying to use a nic card in both PCI slots they only work for a few mins then stop like the cable was cut...
Dunno man wish i had an answer, My USB is working fine on this same mobo. but my Lan is doing the same thing, keeps flashing "network cable is unplugged" when it isn't
wondering if I have to RMA this sucker
"whew" muchas gracias, I had a suspicion there might be a "safety" or relay to be closed before it would power up but wasn't sure.
I love this forum !!
Thanks again guys. :)
Just started assembling a new system, and using a PC Power & Cooling SLI 510 PSU
I don't have a multi meter handy so I'm asking:
Shouldn't the PSU Fan come on and power go to the leads if nothing is plugged in to any of the leads? Or does the unit not power up unless the ATX plug is...
I have the Medusa's and Sennhieser pc 155's, the 5.1 is not a gimmick.
The Senn's are great sounding but the earcups are small and don't cover your ears so they get uncomfortable after a bit. the Medusa's are large and comfy and a sturdy construction.
If your a gamer you can't beat the...
