About half my friend have a PS3, and the other half have a 360. Pretty much of all them will be playing NHL09.
Both consoles seem to have their advantages and disadvantages. The 360 seems less expensive initially, whereas the PS3 seems to be less expensive in the long run. It also seems that...
With the recent release of the 48x0 series and the dropping prices of the GTX series, now seems to be a great time to buy a video card from either side. But just for fun, what was the most recent card you all got from both companies?
ATI - Rage Fury Pro 128 32MB (2001)
Nvidia - Geforce...
Someone is interested in buying my current video card (7900GTO). How much of an upgrade can I expect going from the 7900 to the 3850 512? Is it worth it for ~50 bucks?
I recently got a laptop with Vista on it, and just for the hell of it, I wanted to install XP. That was done successfully (after hours of messing around with the SATA drivers, but that's a different story), but, after installing it, I had no option to boot to Vista. That's alright, since I can...
There's two laptops I'm looking at to buy, one has an AMD X2 TK-55, the other has an AMD Turion X2 TL-58. Just to make sure, The TL's are superior to the TK's, right?
For some reason, there's no options for me to choose resolutions such as 1280x720, 1280x800, 1440x900, and 1440x1050, amongst other resolutions on my primary PC. When I try to set them as custom resolutions, they fail. However, in my older PC, and in Vista, I have about twice as many options to...
In XP, I only have 7 resolutions to choose from between 800x600 and 1680x1050(native res). In Vista, I have about twice the options. The reason why I want to run a lower resolution (1280x800 in particular) is because i will get a constant 30+fps in Bioshock in that resolution. I tried adding it...
Just yesterday I played CoD2 on 2560x1024 on my ghetto dual screen setup (using two CRTs) on my secondary rig. It ran at the lowest settings at a respectable 60fps... when I was facing the ground, otherwise it was a slideshow.
The X2900XT seems too familiar when compared to the X1800XT's launch, which were barely better than the 7800GTX (from what I remember), and they were noisy and ran hot. But it seems as though they rebounded greatly with the x1900 refreshes. So, anyone waiting for the refreshes before buying a...
For some reason, my idol temps for my E6300 @ 3.01 GHZ (1.240 volts) has jumped from mid 30s to mid-high 40s. My load temps remain the same, at roughly 53-56 degrees. I haven't changed anything. Should I re-apply some thermal paste?
After installing windows vista ultimate, when I boot up the computer and have the choice to boot either "an earlier version of windows" or "vista", when I choose earlier version, it shows me an error screen, and i'm forced to select Vista. Then I insert my XP cd, fix the bootcfg, and then I can...
I'm in an odd predicament right now. I used to have my side fan blowing air into the case, which brought down the temperature of the case. I realized that my CPU temperature was quite low, but my video card took very long to cool down. When I opened my case, I noticed a lot of the hot air stayed...
I was bored, so i overclocked my e6300 from 3.01 ghz to 3.325ghz (default cooler/voltage) using my apparently crappy ddr2-5300 kingston value memory. DDR2-667 for the win! My friend has an e6600 and can't even get that with ddr2-800. Am I just lucky ^_^
Edit: Will post results when proven stable.
I'm using a 400 watt forton PSU with dual 18A +12v rails. It currently runs my 7900GT OC 256 without problems, but I want to return it to get the GTO.
Edit: Here's the link to it. http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=17076&vpn=ATX-400-PN-B&manufacture=Fortron%20Source
I decided to boot up two copies of CPU-Z, and to my surprise, I got a pretty impressive clock speed.
Unfortunately, it was only a 30848238% overclock.
I don't know whether I should put this in the video card or display forum, seeing as how this is a problem between the two. Right now, I am typing this message from my television screen, since my monitor goes in standby mode when I boot XP or Vista, therefore not allowing me to see anything. The...
I have a BFG 7900gt oc. When I install the beta drivers, most recent drivers, and even older drivers (84.21s) my screen goes blank after the driver install, and I have to reboot in safe mode or VGA mode to delete the driver.
Mobo: Asus p5b, latest bios
I use driver cleaner pro after every...
I OC'd my e6300 to 2.8ghz (400*7) and when i go to the bios, it's running at 60 degrees. On everest, it shows the same thing. Is it too high? should i re-mount my heatsink (if so do i have to get new thermal paste?)
I bought 1x1GB ddr2-5300 ram, double sided, and despite the fact i updated my bios to the latest version, it is still incompatible: the system will not boot. what could i do about this
So i installed my 7900gt today, and it worked perfectly fine. I then installed the drivers, and my screen went blank. I restarted my computer, and the screen went blank after the XP splash screen. I tried 6 different drivers, and drivercleaner'd all of them... I'm out of ideas here.
Also, the...
It's a 200GB WD SATA. I just formatted it, and on explorer, it says 127 gigs are free (of the 186 formatted). How could I make it display all 186 gigs?
(Using Windows XP SP2, all updates)
Well, it's not for me, it's for a friend who is upgrading soon.
He's already got everything he wants in mind, but he doesn't know what motherboard to get. He is interested in the E6600. I know this has likely been asked to death before, but when is the official date for this processor's...
I put my image settings from quality to performance to get a few more frames in some games, such as CoD HL2, and I did. Yet, I didn't notice any graphical differences. So what exactly do the image settings do?
Hey guys, I'm a complete newbie to hard drives, so I'm sorry if my question sounds completely stupid.
I currently have an 8 gig hard drive (yes, 8 gigs) and I'm getting a 160gig hard drive for the same computer. I wanted to know if it's possible to transfer programs without having to...
I'm a complete newbie when it comes to cooling, so don't mind if I sound a bit stupid.
My CPU runs a little warm on full load, and with my case closed, it runs even warmer. So I decided to remove the side cases, which reduced the temperature by one or two degrees at most. The reason: I have...
I'm planning on getting the following:
Processor: AMD Sempron 64 2800+
Motherboard: Asus K8t800 socket 754
I have all the other pieces already.
Is the motherboard good? Could I possibly get a cheaper one that offers similar performance? Thanks in advance.
Also, for the stupid...
I just bought a Geforce 6200 AGP video card for my crappy P3 system, and I'm already having problems with it. I'm only able to use a max resolution of 800x600, 4-bit color, even after the drivers are installed. I checked my device drivers, and it said
"This device cannot find enough free...
I took out my old computer, a 400 mhz PII (4x100) recently, and decided to overclock it. So far, I overclocked it to 448mhz (4x112) and the CPU temp was still relatively cool, at a bit more than 30 degrees celcius. The multiplier is unlocked, so I was wondering if it was safe to increase the...
I'm on a pretty tight budget, and I'm looking for an AGP videocard that can run Call of Duty 1 and Guild Wars at 30fps+. I'm willing to spend 100$ Canadian.
I was thinking of either the:
Geforce 6200
Radeon 9600
Radeon x300
Thanks in advance.
My friend's computer has been acting weird, and it didn't boot at all. Turns out it was a memory problem. I fixed that, and then booted the computer. After the IDE devices were detected, it said "cmos checksum error, defaults loaded" It then gives me two options to continue or go to the setup...
I have an older computer from 2001 where its built in usb ports is only v1.1...
If i install a USB2.0 PCI card, will it be able to run at 2.0 speeds or 1.1 only?
I'm building my new system soon, and I found this power supply at a pretty decent price. I'm wondering if it's good for what I'm getting.
AMD 64 3200+
Nvidia 7800gt, or 6800 GT, depending on my budget
Asus a8n ultra
1gb ram
200 gig hdd

I'm on a somewhat tight budget, and I noticed this Viewsonic monitor for a very good Canadian price. I'm wondering if it's good. It's advertised at 500:1 and 300 cd/m2, at a 12ms response time.
