I recently picked up three Auria EQ276WN IPS monitors from MicroCenter. Currently, they're $299 and do a native 2560x1440. The box advertises higher res, but it's via software and not worth it IMO. They look amazing. I've got them hooked up to a desktop PC and a Macbook Pro. Highly recommended.
Ok, this situation just pi**ed me off.
I live in Frisco, MicroCenter's in Richardson. That's about a 30 min drive each way on the tollways. I was going to Richardson anyway on Saturday, so I packed up the matte display to exchange it for another glossy screen. Got there, left the matte @...
That's what I was afraid of. It looks excellent, but if it's not supposed to be like that, I'll have to take that one back and get another glossy one. I can't see myself having one matte & two glossy.
As for the monitor arms, I found the manual and I may have to increase the resistance on...
I bought three of these at MicroCenter a week ago. Only had time to setup one until tonight. The first one I took out of the box has a matte screen, which I prefer. The other two, however, have glossy screens. There is nothing on the box that specifies the type of screen, nor can I find anything...
I've had a windows 7 desktop with iTunes, where the iTunes library is located on a DroboFS. I recently picked up a 17" MBP. How can I import the iTunes library, keeping everything on the Drobo and sync my iPhone and iPad on either device?
At work (Enterprise Web Development), I have
19" in portrait mode @ 1440 x 900
2 x 27.5" @ 1920 x 1200
Laptop @ 1600 x 900
The 19" is primarily for IM and reading documentation. The laptop screen is for the mail client. The main 27.5 monitors are for my IDE (Eclipse), SQL Server...
I've got the Netgear that was posted earlier and have been very happy with it. Regardless of which router, if you get a dual band (and you should), make sure it does CONCURRENT bands.
I picked up a router a while back that said it was dual-band, but it was EITHER 2.4 or 5. You couldn't have...
Over the weekend I picked up a 17" MBP, open box from Best Buy for $1849.
I've already found a 16GB RAM upgrade for $80 from Crucial. Now I'm looking to upgrade to a SSD as the main, and possibly only, drive.
I picked up Parallels as well and plan to install Windows 7 and then either...
I-Inc, Hannspree and Hanns-G are the 3 brands behind those 27.5" monitors. I think the only difference is the warranty. They're all pretty much the same otherwise.
In particular, NewEgg has a 27.5" Hanns-G on sale (through today) for $239 after MIR with free shipping.
Disclosure, I'm the Manager of the DFW ColdFusion User Group. I currently work for a private company that employs about 100 ColdFusion developers for a massive Enterprise Application.
I've been using CF for web applications since 1997, but I've also used PHP, Java/JSP and I'm looking at...
I've got an Ergotron LX arm for my Samsung T260HD at home and an Ergotron Neo-Flex arm for my 19" Lenovo (portrait) at work. I highly recommend both. I fortunately found each one on CraigsList just as I needed them.
Ergotron has a couple of triple monitor mounts for the desk you might check...
I really don't think it's worth the update. Finding 1920 x 1200 monitors that don't break the bank right now is pretty difficult as it is. In the ~$250 range, you're limited to the 27.5" Hanns-G/Hannspree/I-Inc models or a handful of 25.5" monitors.
I use a Hanns-G and a Hannspree monitor at...
Finally got a decent shot of my work setup:
19" Lenovo ThinkVision: 900 x 1440 (portrait)
28" Hannspree HF289H : 1920 x 1200
28" Hanns-G HG281D: 1920 x 1200
HP EliteBook 8540w: 1600 x 900
Anymore? People have NEVER wanted to program. Why do you think FrontPage made so much cash for MS back in the day? All those JavaScript cut&paste sites from the 90's and early 00's have been migrated to a standard, cross-browser, easy to implement series of jQuery plugins.
And who backs...
I've got a 28" Hanns-G and a 28" Hannspree hooked up to my laptop. No problems with either. They're each about 1.5 years old. Many co-workers have the same monitors or one of the 28" I-Inc versions.
What problem did you have that you had to RMA yours?
The only problem we're having is finding...
FWIW, I use a Hannspree HF289H and a Hanns-G HG281D monitor (both 28") with a 19" Lenovo monitor in portrait mode, connected to an HP i7 laptop. The 28" monitors @ 1920 x 1200 afford a huge landscape for coding in client-side, server-side and database environments. My bosses each picked up one...
I had just ordered one of the sub-LX arms from Amazon, then I thought to check Craigslist. Found a guy down the road from my office that was selling 2 of the LXs and picked them up for $80 each. One's hooked up to my 25.5" Samsung T260HD and I'm torn between picking up a pair of 28" Hanns-G...
FWIW, the Hanns-G 28" monitor (previous version) was on sale @ NewEgg last Black Friday for $240-$260. You might wait a month before picking up anything. 1920x1200 fo' life!
The Ergotron LX side-by-side dual monitor mount says it's made for 25.5" monitors, but they're string enough to hold the Hanns-G 28" monitors. I haven't tried myself yet, but I'm planning on running 3 of those monitors if they go on sale again around Thanksgiving.
I picked up a 64GB ADATA a few months back for about $120 after MIR. The thing flies. My 64-bit WIn7 Pro boots up in a couple of seconds. I've got the OS and "helper" apps like Notepad++, Firefox, utils and whatnot on the SSD. All of my office and Adobe apps are on striped SATA drives.
After...
Tell the first person that wants to buy a part of that they'll have to take the whole thing to get it and you'll probably be doing yourself a favor. (Says the man with 6 PCs & 9 monitors sitting in his living room).
I'm taking the monitors I've been holding onto to Goodwill this week. The comps...
Not at all. I've got the 64GB as the primary drive with the OS and supporting programs.
I've got 2 x 500GB 7200 rpm drives in Raid 0 with 5 partitions
30 GB webroot
200 GB programs
300 GB games
100 GB users - backed up via DropBox
rest is storage.
The read/write speed on the Raid...
Ok, the new desktop and the old desktop now have DVI-to-HDMI converters and are connected to my T260HD monitor over HDMI. My laptop can connect over HDMI as well.
I found this 4 x 1 USB Peripheral Switch that allows me to connect my keyboard & mouse to multiple computers (each are PS/2...
I installed Windows 7 Pro on a 64 GB A-Data SSD just a couple of months ago and I've got 30GB to spare. All of my big installed (Games, Office, CS5, etc.) go on larger drives (2x 500GB SATA), but the OS and supporting smaller programs stay on the SSD. It only cost about $129 on sale at...
You might have asked him to bring either his desktop/laptop or at least his cables to see if the problem lies there. I've seen a monitor flicker to different hues due to a bad VGA cable.
Just right-click on the folders and select the Share option.Follow the steps and it'll give you a network path to the folder. Then go to the other computer, open up Windows Explorer and select "Map Network Drive". Enter in the path to the shared folder and mark the box to connect when the...
Yeah, if you don't use a router or a switch, then you'd have to connect the two computers directly to each other using a crossover cable. The router will give you more flexibility.
Matt, I just built a new rig and had planned on running 2 x 500GB drives in striped raid to get the read/write boost for the main OS. A coworker convinced me to try an SSD drive for the main OS and then the RAID setup for everything else. I picked up a 64GB A-Data SSD from MicroCenter for about...
I've had two sets of RAID arrays fail on me in the past and thankfully I was able to get the most important data off the drives. If you want this stuff to last years, you might back up to DVD or BR in addition to the drives at the very least. Or maybe pick up an Amazon S3 account to just store...
I've been using external hard drives for some time & I had just about maxed out the 3 I've got when the Drobo FS showed up. It's a little pricey, but you get expansible storage with redundancy and it's a breeze to use. It's basically a NAS device with 5 empty bays for SATA drives. I've got 3 x...
The last rig I built was a dual P-III in an Antec case and it was as loud as an old airplane most of the time. I recently finished an i7-920 build with an ATI 5970 inside the HAF-922 and if it weren't for the LED in the front, I wouldn't know it was on most of the time. Even the Dell P4 I just...
Get what works now and don't worry about what might be out later this year. If you worry about that, you'll never get anything worthwhile. Hell, I dropped the cash on a 5970 last November just because I couldn't find any 5870's in stock anywhere and I happened to catch them on sale via a post on...
I've had the Samsung T260HD for about a year now and I love it. I've never seen any lag on any game and I only have it hooked up to a P4 right now. Actually, I have it hooked up to
Sony Blu-Ray over HDMI
XBox 360 over HDMI
PC over DVI
Laptop over VGA
and I have its optical audio out connected...
I've got a new build that includes the following:
Corsair 750W power supply
i7-920
HIS 5970
6Gb RAM
2 x 500Gb HD striped
1 x 1.5 Tb HD
1 x Blu-Ray drive
I've been told that I should OC the 920 to at least 3,0 to get the most out of the 5970, I've read up on it and based on the i7...
