Ordered a WD Ultrastar 14TB that sells for $134.00 Ordered on Monday, Arrived in 2 days.
Packaging was stellar, probably the best packing ive seen on a hard disk I've bought online - ever.
The drive powered on with 0 hours and 1 Mechanical Start Error. Probably not a good sign so I power...
On a side note. Using the same hardware on MacOS.. RX470, RX480, RX580, 5700XT, R9 Fury Nano on an X58 Mac Pro, there are no issues with black screens, etc. I doubt this is a power supply issue, as this truly looks like a quality issues with AMD's windows drivers. The issues are too...
The 4k performance of a Ramdisk can't be beat, even on an aging x58 based system the numbers are darn impressive. I'm running 56GB of RDIMMS that can be grabbed on ebay for $40 each on a good day. I keep my code in GitHub compile on a raid-0 ramdisk and would never go back.

Well, I'm not running in windows.
On the samsung, sharpening set to 0, displayed at 3840x2180 at a 1:1 pixel ratio. If I turn the color down drastically, bleeding goes away and the pixels are clean. Would be a deal at $300 if it was 4:4:4.
Compared to the TCL.... Well, both of my TCL's...
Well to start with, the samsung 6290 has red and blue over bleed, making it look more like a 4:2:2 than a 4:4:4
The pixels on the AOC are sharp. Across the, aroma test, lines below and all. FWIW.. Image quality looks better than my Crossover 324k's 10-bit panel.
A couple of quick pics...
Best Buy has the 40" AOC C4008VU8 on sale for $499. My order arrived for pickup and I've set it up ias my primary work display, replacing the Seiki 39 30Hz 4k.
Initial thoughts... Wow.. I'm impressed. This display clearly is in a class above the Samsung 6 series and TCL 43S405.
If you can get 4:4:4 and a clean text pattern with this years 6290... not gonna happen. ... without a lot of work, if it’s at all possible.
I’ve had 43” tcl’s from 2 different retailers, both have what we used to call b-grade panels.
Trying another approach, the 40” curved VA panel from...
I’ve reshot the Hisense over DisplayPort to HDMI 2.x @ 60hz using a pluggable adapter and a hdmi 1.4 connection@ 30hz.
These were rendered with a 1:1 resolution. A HiDPI rendered image is where the OS renders the ui at a much higher resolution, scaling it to 4K.
The 4k60 DisplayPort images...
Regarding the TCL 43S405, while you not it's as a narrow viewing angle, you need to make that note on every VA monitor on the list. IMO, the TCL viewing angle is a tab bit better than most sammys..
Thx
I noticed the issue whilst calibrating s second 43s405 using the settings from rtings.com. The luminance from the RGB values bleed vertically. Lowering contrast reduces the issue, but it cannot be eliminated.
Considering your image, I'm seeing the effects of camera sharpening of the scaled pixels, etc. which is normal for any display and highly dependent on the image scaler. Considering my 43S405, I have an issue of color / luminance blending above an image in specific circumstances, pointing...
va, mva smva, etc offers a viewing angle (Horizont al/Vertical):, 178° / 178°

I've retested the Hisense display with a MacPro/RX470 and a MacBook Pro RX460 and have not been able to disable enhancements made to the image. While these enhancements looks great on Games & TV content, it effects the crisp display of small fonts, performing a luminosity blending of pixels...
Are the whites white? yes. Are the blacks deep? Yep.
Honestly, if the screen was any brighter, I would get a headache. lol. No. It's not DIM. Could it be brighter? Yes. Do I need it brighter? Nope. The image is bright enough and comfortable to work with for hours without strain...
Are the whites white? yes. Are the blacks deep? Yep.
Honestly, if the screen was any brighter, my eyes would bleed. lol. No. It's not DIM by any standard.
Disabling HiDpi and displaying the 444 test pattern, delivered a cleaner image.
Of note... color reproduction on this set is stellar. Images are produced with indiscernible color banding. The panel is clear and evenly displays colors across the display without any brightness streaking.
Font rendering from macOS on the Hisense with or without smoothing looks good. Blurry ness was evident in the 444 test pattern on the Hisense. This may be from displaying in 3840 HiDpi vs displayed in 3840 1:1. I can’t retest until tues morning.
Sharing test results below:

I've been testing 43" replacements to my Seiki 39" display on a 2012 MacPro RX480 / Geforce 970 and a 2017 MacBook/AMD 460.
SwitchResX should provide access to all video modes defined in the EDID. Any custom resolutions not showing up can be easily added.
MacPro <= 2012 can leverage direct...
Sharing the results of 2 display's I've picked up recently to replace my Seiki 4k 39" 30Hz display
43" 8-bit panel - Hisense 43-H7C
@ Costco(warehouse only not .com) for $248.00
Aside from a couple small picky items, this 43" monitor is a HUGE screen for a low price. If you can handle a...
Attached are the settings I’ve found that work best when using this as a desktop monitor @ 3840x2160 / 60Hz on macOS.
Game mode delivers the best image quality. It’s noted in the docs that it is setup for games and pc connections.
I’m getting HDR options from an AMD RX480 via a DisplayPort -> pluggable active hdmi 2.0 adapter -> amazon basics hdmi 2.0 cable.
Taking time to find the right setting is the key to this display can yield a great every day monitor image. It’s a coders dream on a shoestring budget.
For...
It passes 4:4:4 tests and the box has HDR pasted on all sides.
Fwiw... the build quality of the casing is better than crossover or seiki.
2 of the 4 hdmi ports are 2.0/hdr.
For PC/Mac display, game picture mode with a reduced sharpeness setting of 1 yields the best typeface rendering.
Costco Warehouse is clearing out a Hisense 43H7050d 43” 4K hdmi 2.0 60hz smart display, that also makes a great monitor for $249.
This is $100 less than Best Buy’s current price of $349.
The display uses a VA panel and with the proper settings, it delivers a crisp image with deep blacks and...
These sets should be showing up at your local Costco. YMMV. The low price on these tuner free displays caught me by surprise at the Warehouse on Friday. The addition of a DP port could have placed these displays at par with Crossover / AMH. The 90 day return policy is a great option for...
I couldn't agree more on screen size. The additional real estate helps with working with the user interface's of modern development IDE's.
A couple things that I've noted over the last week...
My 324k has a brightness flare on the bottom edge of display, directly behind the crossover...
A new 4K slim bezel LCD, the AMH A399U 4:4:4, 60Hz refresh, DP 1.2, HDMI 2.0, HDMI 1,4, & DVI-DL.etc, has shown up on eBay for under $600 delivered from south korea. A detailed hands-on review for the AMH A399U is available for viewing at Youtube. The only drawback noted is brightness...
Fwiw.. In the latest firmware updates from Samsung, they have enabled a 4k PC mode without HDCP @ 60hz with 4:4:4 color over hdmi 2.0.
Any word on the TCL 4k color implementation?
While there has been a lot of talk on the subject, that's about we have at the moment. I would have expected regular updates, photos, etc from the team.
I'm interested in 60hz. The money I'd invest into an upgrade will likely be put towards a 60hz 4k display. Hopefully larger than 28".
After a lot of initial activity, those proposing the 39" upgrade have fallen silent. They are either busy working on the mod or the the silence has a good reason behind it.
