Is there a difference in sound quality in connection 6ch direct (analog) vs Optical (digital)?

It wouldn't affect the signal while being transported through the optical cable but EMI could definately affect the components on either side of it.

Building Now... Z270 or take the X299 Plunge?

Yeah, I’ve pretty much decided that I can live with my current system til October. It will give me a chance to see the reviews for more x299 boards as well as the x370 boards. October is just a self imposed deadline.

Bad time to buy a CPU?

I was going to build a new system this month but there are so many options that need to be tested that I can’t really come to a decision. If I absolutely had to buy right now, i’d be inclined to go with an x270 based system only because there are a lot of reviews and motherboard firmware has...

Need a new mouse. Who's reliable these days?

I can definitely tell you to steer clear of Corsair. I bought a K95 keyboard and M65 mouse and ended up returning them. I actually liked the feel of both but the CUE software is so badly written that it either crashed when you loaded it or the devices wouldn't be recognized. Unfortunately, that...

temporary network cable like a extension cord?

You should get a cable like that with ethercon connectors. When you need to use the normal RJ45 connector, you either unscrew the shell or put an ethercon barrel on the cable and use a short patch cable. If you're worried about durability, the later is the best option as the ethercon connectors...

The Top 5 Best Motherboards of All Time

I guess my experience was a bit different. The only real issue i ever had was the crappy fan they put on the northbridge. I kept that system around way longer than I should've.

The Top 5 Best Motherboards of All Time

I hear you. I had an Abit KT7 Raid board with a Duron 600 that was flaswless. Great overclocker as well. I think my all time favorite board has been the Iwill XA-100 Plus with a K62-400. Man I loved that board. Dragged it to a ton of LAN parties too!

Building Now... Z270 or take the X299 Plunge?

Like the title says, I need a system now but I'm torn on which direction to go. X299 seems to be a bit of a shit show right now but i'd be good for a while. Z270 is well tested at this point but I wonder if I'd be wanting something better 6 months from now. System will mostly be Pro Tools...

You can fix that by listening to the mono versions. Those are the correct real versions.

Windows 10 users with fast USB 3.0 speeds..can you tell me which chipset you have?

I'd have to do some googling or take a stroll through that aisle next time I go to Fry's. I'm sure it's just a rebranded card that a handful of other vendors slap their name on. You may be right about the VIA chipset, I didn't really put any forethought into what card to buy as it went into an...

    Thermaltake Core V51

Thinking about using this case for a new build. It got a good review from the [H] staff but wondering if anyone has any feedback beyond the review. The case has been out for a while so I'm hoping to hear some real world experiences, good or bad.

Windows 10 users with fast USB 3.0 speeds..can you tell me which chipset you have?

I bought a Sabrent branded card with a VIA chipset at Fry's for $30. Speeds are equal to or better than what I'm achieving on my MacBook Pro with Windows 10 running under bootcamp.

The ear training guide for audio producers

Lots of good info in there. Most articles out there like this end up being mostly an endorsement or advertisement for some plugin or other piece of software. This is not one of those... Just straight meat and potatoes focus on technique.

    Carrying case?

Not sure about the sizes of the gear in question but Pelicans are awesome for that kind of stuff. The larger ones have wheels with a retractable handle similar to a suitcase. The initial cost of a Pelican case can seem high at first but when you compare that to what you're using it to protect...

    Looking for a mobo recommendation

I've been out of the PC building game for a while so I've been trying to cram to get up to speed on the current products. I'm looking for a solid socket 1151, z170 based motherboard to use in a build for a family member. I don't plan on overclocking and won't be doing any exotic cooling other...

Help: Issues with nearfield monitor setup

Although vibration could be part of it, the room resonances are probably your biggest issue. In a room of those dimensions, your biggest peaks are going to be 70, 110, 140, and 240. 70 and 110 are going to sound boomy and 170 & 240 are going to sound boxy. The only way you're going to tame that...

Impedance too low for onboard sound?

Thats why I think it's an impedance issue. I mean, they'll get pretty loud but they start distorting before I even get it to a comfortable listening level. And I don't listen loud. There is also a ton of noise. They work fine in my mac but i've tried 2 different computers with 2 different...

Impedance too low for onboard sound?

I have a pair of JH Audio JH16 in ear monitors that I plugged into the onboard sound card on my Rampage II Gene and everything got really distorted after 20% on the windows volume control. They seem to be fine when plugged into any professional gear but no go on the onboard card. These are 18...

Laptop --> Receiver via 3.5mm/RCA cable has a lot of noise w/ charging

In regard to your lack of vocal issue, it sounds to me like either the jack on your laptop is fucked or the cable is toast. What does it sound like when you plug headphones into the laptop? If it sounds ok, then the laptop is probably fine. So that leaves the cable. From what you describe, it...

exfat for use Win7 and OSX external drives

I have couple different computers that are a mix between Windows 7 and OSX. Seems the only file system that both OS's can read natively is exfat. I just formated a new 1TB external drive for use with both systems and it's working flawlessly. Got me thinking though, has anybody had any problems...

    Best inexpensive PA loudspeaker (powered)?

Recommenations for a sound card for Audio recording

If it gets staticy only when you add effects your sound card isn't the problem. Get more ram and a faster processor. Amplitube is pretty power hungry and the audio will start breaking up if you don't have enough horsepower.

    Win 7 Ultimate OEM Question

An OEM license is tied to the first machine it is activated on and is non transferable. You should however, be able to change ram, video card or hard drive without a problem. It's when you do a motherboard swap that it gets hairy. In any case you can just call Microsoft and explain the situation...

    Gentoo Linux

Gentoo was great when I ran it. Quick and stable. However, the time it took to set up was a killer. I'm glad I built a system from stage 1.The learning experience was priceless but nowadays I use ubuntu. I find it just as capable and after some tweaking just about as quick. My 2 cents.

Does such a piece of equipment exist?

Ok, I think we have a terminology issue here. I could barely follow your last post. There are a few things I need clarified before I can help you out. 1. It sounds like your amps may be built into the mixer. is this the case? 2. If you have outboard amplifiers, how many do you have? this...

Does such a piece of equipment exist?

Often times installed gear needs to be just as rugged as gear that's on the road. Installed gear is typically constantly in use and hardly gets maintained due to the set it and forget it attitude. I will concede that for a church or school on a limited budget, Behringer is probably fine.

Does such a piece of equipment exist?

Dude you don't have to be PC about it. Behringer products are complete crap. To the OP: As Sycraft has already mentioned, what you are looking for is a distribution mixer. The ART MX225 that was linked to earlier will work great. DO NOT USE A HEADPHONE AMPLIFIER or any other product with...

    Linux MINT??

That sucks man. This unfortunately is the reason that a lot of people will never see linux as anything more than a hobby os. :( Look at the bright side, win7 still runs pretty well on a netbook. Just make sure you give it at least 2GB of ram.

    Linux MINT??

I don't think it was that they necessarily had odd hardware, just new hardware. Remember, in the grand scheme of things, netbooks really haven't been around all that long. It took the distros a little while to catch up. It was definitely a challenge sometimes to get linux to run in early days of...

    Linux MINT??

The size of the community had nothing to do with it for me personally. My issue was stability. Yes, I know ubuntu fixes can be applied to mint but that didn't help me. I don't know why one was stable for me and the other wasn't considering they are essentially the same code base. I need my OS to...

It's an Acer Aspire D250. 1.6 GHz atom, 2 gigs of ram, 160GB hard drive (don't know what speed but i''m assuming 5400) XP was really sluggish. Windows 7 was better but still a bit much. Ubuntu 9.04 was about the same as win 7. 10.04 is pretty quick for web browsing and email. Definate speed...
