Nothing that I can tell is shorting the board out.
When you say power switch are you referring to the outlet/surge protector? If so, the machine I'm on right now is plugged into the same outlet.
I have a workstation here that is completely dead. No power and no fans spin up.
In a situation like this I figure it could be one of two things. Either the psu or the mobo.
I replaced the powersupply and STILL no power. (and yes, it is switched on)
I just replaced the motherboard...
Ahhhh I feel like an idiot. Apparently it was the firewall. I use a KVM switch to switch between our 2k3 server and the exchange server. Apparently the configuration on the firewall rolled back to a previous state and incoming SMTP traffic was being sent to the 2k3 server. I guess I got the...
When I ping it, it doesn't reply but does resolve the WAN ip of the firebox. I also cannot telnet which would appear to be an issue with the firewall, however incoming SMTP IS ALLOWED and being forwarded to the internal ip of the exchange server.
Yes I have tried rebooting.
I'm really leaning towards the firewall being that I can't telnet port 25. But also I don't know if this would be because of NAT.... because incoming SMTP is allowed and being forwarded to the correct internal IP of the Exchange server. Also outgoing and optional...

Well, I'm the brand spanking new Network Admin for a vitamin manufacturer of about 100 users.
Let me explain a little about the job first. When I interviewed, they were specifically looking for an entry level admin that was still in school...
Woooooo! I fixed it!
Basically... I had quite a lot of dust that was stuck between the fins on top of the heatsink and I couldn't figure out for the life of me how to get it out of there. Then it finally hit me to use the handset from a vacuum and it worked like a charm. I also manually...
No, no. I tried reseating it after replacing the thermal paste. And now temps are worse than before. Maybe cleaning it off with only 70% alcohol could be causing the problem. I'll buy something a little stronger when I have the chance to re-apply the paste. I don't see how I could have...
Do you guys think it could be the ceramique? Maybe I need arctic silver with silver oxide as suggested above. Or maybe I just need to clean it better with some stronger rubbing alcohol. I mean I still haven't re-applied the paste yet but I'm just brainstorming here.
I doubt it. Even if I...
I don't think the program matters really. It seems as if all of them just take the readings from BIOS. I'm using Everest right now and I'm idling at 94c
Well.... I cleaned it off an re-applied with the arctic silver ceramique lying around. Now I can't boot at all as I'm watching it jump to 100c in the bios. I've tried reseating it several times and it seems as if the paste spread just fine and the HS is on nice and tightly. I'll have to clean...
This is at stock speed too.
What would be a reasonable temp for a P4 560?
Also, I have some arctic silver ceramique lying around. Would that be good enough?
About 80c idle and 90c full load. This is after just cleaning out a mess of dust.
Reason I ask is because... I can't even play Unreal 3 on number 2 settings at 800x600, I'm experiencing very frequent hiccups. I know my machine can handle much more than this and I do spyware/virus scans often...
I too would like to know how networks spread across multiple locations can be linked under one domain.
I'm currently doing IT help desk for a client that spans across all of America and even Canada. I'd really like to understand how it works.
Well... I honestly appreciate all the help and feedback but no one really has answered my main question yet.
Im still wondering if it be worth it to spend close to 800 on an upgrade or just do a new build completely?
Which leads me to the same question. Would it even be worth the...
Well.... I WAS sold on the Corsair until I just realized I had selected a 700w psu
I thought you said overkill meaning the price (beacause Seasonics usually are expensive)
I think what I really meant to pick was this 500w one...
To be honest, I don't really see how you can go wrong with any brand. They all work the same and do as they're intended. Nothing that really outweighs one over the other.
An x1950 pro would be pushing it. I already have a 7800GT in my current pc and it can barely handle MOHA at medium settings (1024x768). But then again I only got 1 gig of ram in this one as well.
1) Only a 17", so max resolution I'd be using is 1280x1024. May go bigger in the late future.
2) I'm planning to last as long as it takes till the next best game comes out that would require more
3) As stated above, Bioshock, MOHA, CoD4, UT 2k7, and Crysis. Would like to play with max settings.
Funcpad hands down. Your mouse will literally glide across it, great for gaming. They're huge too. I can't be without one.

Well, I've been out of the loop for awhile and I have a pc that's been sitting in my closet collecting dust for several months now. I decided its time that I do something with it.
I most importantly need a new psu and HDD because they're both shot. I figure if I'm going to fix it, I might as...
Well it all began about a year ago when I made my first attempt to install watercooling. I made a huge mistake of not taking my hardware out first and letting it run over night to check for leaks. Well, turns out I had some and it leaked mostly on the back of my video card and I saw a few...
Ugh... I cleaned off the mobo and I cleaned off the card. Im still getting the same problem and Im clueless... The only other thing I can think of is the dye could of got on the back of the mobo. So aggrivating
Well, I just tried a completely different video card and Im still having the same problem.
I did however look around on my mobo with a uv light, since the stupid dye is only visible under UV, I did see some residue scattered around. I didnt find any residue inside the slots though but I...
Yeah, thats what Im saying. The strange thing is my mobo isnt giving me any errors. I have my speakers plugged in too, Id assume it would say "gpu failure" if that was the case.
Well, I got another card to try anyways, so Ill test it out tomorrow and well find out.
Well, the second time re-applying my thermal paste I used a little more than before. Could it be possible I put too much and that would be causing it?
And sorry if I came off as a scam artist with the RMA deal. I was never really informed on the whole process so I was just curious...
