The Asus sound cards are very nice sounding, just depends on if you're more into gaming (Creative's cards support more games directly) or music/movie listening. (where the Auzentech/Asus/etc cards blow out Creative's).
It probably goes to the lawyers (seriously). I would assume ATI/Nvidia had to put up a pot of money that if left unclaimed would not go back to the companies. At best it'll go to a charity or something, at worst I think these things normally revert to the law firms.
Cash it. Or sign it over and...
This is the first I remember hearing anything about this (missed the original thread, and I bought about 3 ATI cards during the period), so that sucks.. maybe so few people claimed they split the money between everyone that did, resulting in huge payouts for a few people?
Congrats...
The Vortex 2 was an amazing card. I still remember how amazed I was going from a Soundblaster AWE 64 Gold to it... I had an SBLive card for about a month and it popped and crackled like crazy... Creative dragged out tech support beyond where I could return it, and then started giving me totally...
I am still using a Kenwood KR-V6070 (IIRC the only major difference was a new remote for the 7070)-- it was never a top of the line amp but it sounds very good for my uses-- at an apartment where I can't particularly blast music at full volume anyway. I don't think they'd be worth too much...
After doing a ton of research it seems like the Sapphire AGP cards are the most trouble free brand in terms of general compatibility with other hardware and driver sets. I read a lot of issues with the PowerColor cards specifically with VIA chipsets and the like.
I think people go Sapphire to...
(I hope this wasn't posted already)
Looks like Asus has posted a number of new (beta) drivers for the Xonar family.. reports go from a bit mixed to very problematic, so try at your own risk..!
(Pasting in the links from Drago's post at...
I think the issue is Songbird takes FOREVER on large initial collection scans, to the point it seems frozen, but it's really just chugging along.
If you have a big collection, just set it off and walk away for a few hours...
It's promising, but definitely has some rough edges..
If this was "Microsoft Streetview" and not "Google Streetview", would everyone saying people wanting privacy should just get with the times be saying the same things?
I still think Streetview is really on the line of what should be allowed-- I think comparing photographs that are in some...
This doesn't entirely make sense to me-- is it an online download, or an online service? As the "annual releases don't make much sense..." statement really means nothing if all they're doing is letting you download the latest yearly version.
And " retailers and other partners have asked for...
Sounds like some sort of driver conflict or (gasp) IRQ issue. The last time I remember having an issue like that (erm, like a decade ago?) was when my sound card, video card, and mouse were all on the same IRQ.
There's no reason you should be having noise like that, something else is up in...
First Windows PC was in 97..
Matrox Millenium ->added Diamond Voodoo2 12mb->ATI All In Wonder 128 16mb->added 2nd Voodoo2 (awesome!) -> ATI AIW 8500DV (which never worked right, got it replaced with) -> ATI AIW 8500 128mb -> X800XL -> 4850
The AIW 8500 128mb was a great card that gave its...
Love Google Maps, not a big fan of Streetview. Reason being-- sure, it's "public" in the sense that anyone driving by can see it, but there is a big difference between having to make the effort to be there in person (or send someone), versus just being able to look it up online at any time, from...
I think this is a really good point.
If they were conspiring, wouldn't they try to be fairly equal-- or both benefit?
Instead, they both took turns getting black eyes which seems unlikely.
I'm NOT saying that this case has absolutely no merit... just from what I'm seeing, and have seen...
The charts are interesting but it seems like the evidence could just as easily be coincidence/shrewd timing than anything.
They leave out other competitors (final days of 3dfx), how the market was a little more wide open back then, and how different 3d chips had VASTLY different...
Depending on the resolutions and games, a single 4850 is often competitive with a 3870 Crossfire, so a 4850 would be a much better buy than another 3870, especially as you can get 4850s for ~$150 with a bit of looking. Plus it gives you the option to get another 4850...
I think this would be great, personally... especially if older cards were left in for a few generations for those of us who don't upgrade every time a new card comes along... it's nice to see where performance really starts dropping off on older cards. It'd also be nice to see the progression...
For most things, they are fairly equivalent. The Xonar comes with a nice software bundle, a lot more cables, and does have some minor functionality differences. (the analog loopback audio, etc)
For most people, either card is basically equivalent, so yeah-- if you could find a good deal on...
Just download and install the hotfix, it's a full driver release...
Cats tend to come out around the middle of the month, so I would assume Cat 8.7 should be out any day now...
Audacity is a pretty good open source (free) app, but I'm not sure if it has filtering for removing vocals.. check it out, it's really getting better every release...
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
I did find this that might help you...
Yeah, they literally use almost the identical chipset for audio. There is a minor difference in some of the other components but it's not worth the money.
I have a Xonar D2X in one PC and a Barracuda in the other, they both sound *great*, but I probably wouldn't be able to pick one from the...
The Xonar D2X is great for audio. I love mine with my 2.1 speaker setup. The XFi is considered by many to be inferior for straight music/movie use. I don't have any experience with the XFi (although I did try an Elite Pro a couple years back but it never worked right in my system and CL tech...
Just because a random website says it's a new cooler, I wouldn't believe it-- except for that ugly blue plastic (?) part, it looks identical to every other stock 4850 cooler.... down to the fins/"fingers" down by the ports...
For analog it could very well make a big difference. I have Klipsch 2.1s and they really like a clean source...
But like I said, some people will swear up and down there's no significant difference, it really depends on how sensitive your ears are to whatever quality of "sound" the card...
And it depends on your ears. Some don't hear it, some do.
I personally thought the difference between my Realtek 882 chip and my Asus Xonar D2X was huge-- I could barely listen to music before on my PC (and I listen all the time at work-- with an Audigy 2 card) without it driving me nuts. The...
Yep, it's always been graphics+capture chips-- they just used the various Rage Theatre chips before.
It's actually a pretty nice card for HTPC use. I do feel like using lower performing chips doesn't quite live up to an "ALL-in-Wonder" in terms of being able to game, but it should be a nice...
Look at the rebate offer number, address, etc-- if everything matches, odds are it's the same rebate. But if the offer # and/or PO box is different I think you'd have a very strong basis to conclude they are SEPARATE rebates.
Usually, though, it seems like when the date range is different...
I had that with older versions of the drivers-- when I uninstalled and put in my 4850 (using the hotfix drivers), that specific link is gone EXCEPT when right-clicking on the desktop, which is a good place for it to appear.
So maybe try to upgrade to the 8.6 hotfix drivers...
It's not that higher res causes the CPU usage to go down, it's that the GPU is more stressed to keep up.. the more pixels you're pushing, the more the balance of work shifts towards the GPU. So the higher the res you want to play, the faster GPU you need to keep up.
The fewer pixels, the...
I am fairly certain the ATI card must be the primary card in order for the capturing software to work. So you'll probably need to get the output working. Definitely check the pins, I've seen cables get bent at work (I have no idea how, the monitors are never SUPPOSED to be disconnected!) and...
Doubt it-- it was being used to clear out older Visiontek cards and when ATI "surprise" launched the 4850 a week early it accidentally became part of the sale.
Given that it sounds like Best Buy's wholesale price for the cards is around $165 and we were getting them for $150, it may be a...
