What a very interesting response ... how defensive and aggressive at the slightest hint .... Hmm !!!
Lets look at your initial post: you say that the monitor is totally done it ? How ? If you really did overcook the T-Con logic board (which of course is totally possible) then at most you...
Well if you take the necessary steps of adding some extra cooling, it should be fine for a long time to come Having said that, there is no guarantee, only time will tell.
I am not a fan of John, as he has been pretty much acting like a scalper & spammer in one. Those cards he is selling for...
Still spamming this forum with your overpriced merchandise. Ha ha, nice price drop -- not. Could it be cause I posted the really easy fix (if you know what you are doing) in this forum or that I revealed in the 305t thread that a replacement LCD panel (which includes the logic board) is...
One eBay seller posted exactly what is wrong with the boards (after getting into an argument with the other seller).
Anyways, neither of those sellers were the *original* repair guys - man, it pisses me off when people claim that. What proof do they have of it - just 'cause they bragged...
Yeah, that seller is making a killing off of those cards - it's a complete rip off. I am surprised he managed to even sell them. Same guy is buying up all the broken ones and reselling them for much more. ( [some/all?] 305t have the same logic board as the Gateway XHD3000 monitor).
FYI -...
I would be worried there. If you smell ozone, that could mean arcing from the high voltage power supply - loose backlight connection, crack on circuit board, etc. Could be a fire hazard.
Yeah, right ... more like 1/2 hour tops if you know what you are doing. 1hr if you have done anything similar in the past.
1. Unplug everything
2. Unscrew base, speaker board (if you have it) remove all the screws holding the connectors
3. Use an old plastic card to gently pry open the bezel...
You know, I had to log into hardforum just to refute your claim. You are NOT the only person who can repair these, just claim to be.
I fixed the XHD3000 two months before you even identified the problem with the monitor (yes, I did see your postings on Youtube).
And people, just so you know...
What do you know ... I come lurking back here and there is an interesting 30" monitor thread. BTW, a 30" 3280x2048 panel does exist out there (and its even an IPS one), and so does a monitor supporting it. Too bad it costs both arms, legs and a kidney...
That is interesting. I have glow no matter what brightness level I choose though it gets worse (obviously) the brighter the setting. Could you please share with us what your manufacturing date and firmware version is? I wonder if they are finally using LG's latest panel revision.
One thing...
Brightness was calibrated to 95cd/m2 with a gamma=2.2

Not really, its still around 100 dpi - same as 20" 4:3 & 30" displays and others. Just a stupid 16:9 panel cut where you loose more vertical space. Sigh :(
I guess my previous post wasn't very clear to you. We are talking about 30" monitors right? So its edited to remove all ambiguity.
I have no doubts that the industry best IPS (Nec 2490 & possibly HP DreamColor 24) mop up everything else in the smaller monitor size segment but 30" wise there...
No, you misunderstand me. I'm NOT saying that PVA panels don't have color shift. What I am saying is that in light of the less than spectacular performance of the current generation 30" *IPS and rather superb performance of modern S-PVA wrt *VA (& TN) technology the traditional IPS >> PVA no...
Nope! Not the same. Old IPS don't do this, NEC 30 does. Stop twisting truths around.
And since when did you get a monopoly on the term "colorshift" and get to pin it to a specific technology. If thats the case then colorshifting paint must be cheap way to spray on *VA monitor panel onto...
Oh man, I'm missing out on a huge flamewar here.
I've said this before, and I'll say it again - the NEC 3090 also suffers from shifts in color, especially whites and darker tones. Its far from perfect, and exhibits this behavior more than previous/other IPS panels.
Albovin, please compare...
If anyone is interested, a "comprehensive" review of the XL30 (and XL24) was posted today on Xbitlabs: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/monitors/display/samsung-sm-xl24-xl30.html (unfortunately, it talked too much about color gamut and too little about the monitor itself)
Here we go again ..... The NEC 30" is certainly not superb - it has been debated to death already - it may be the most descent currently available 30" monitor for color critical work but certainly has the whole list of flaws that have yet to be addressed.
Heres to hoping for something descent - another wish for for a DreamColor 30", but if they do release it, most of us current NEC 30" owners are going to be tearing our hair out.
I don't understand you folks - glossy == reflections everywhere and plenty of eye strain. I don't like that companies are putting excessive AG coating on matte screens (LG I am talking about you) but I hate glossy even more. Best screen for use is a non-grainy matte screen. And yes I use...
Welcome to the club. The moment you start hitting panel blocking you loose color depth and you don't get any decrease in the black level (poor CR). What you can do is get youself a monitor calibration kit and use it to calibrate to a specified white point brightness.
Doesn't exist yet.
From what I have seen in the current 30" IPS panel, you are better off getting a Samsung 305+ to avoid QC issues if you don't intend to do color critical work.
Congrats on your purchase. Let us know how your copy turned out (if the previously reported bugs have been ironed out) as well as any QC issues.
Looks like the XL30 is coming closer to a price-point where it could be a serious competitor to the Nec3090 /sigh
Em, NO! Older S-IPS had better IQ than the current generation LCDs. Those have very poor black levels (0.2 cd/m MORE than previous gen), uniformity problems
High end CRT yes, typical (especially home budget) CRT often not the case vs all typical LCDs are sharp at native resolution (signal issues aside)
I had a higher end professional series 19" and it started loosing sharpness after 2.5 years of frequent use. The colors are still great though I...
Actually, LCDs have at least few areas where they are better:
1) Sharpness - LCDs generally have much sharper images whereas the dot produced by the electron beam us fuzzy. This is especially apparent with 133dpi+ monitors.
2) They don't flicker - with crts you need to drive them at high...
eh, I dunno if there is such a thing as too big ... maybe anything bigger than a set of triple QuadHD 52" monitors. I've got a 20-30-20 setup now and it doesn't feel big at all.
Yes, I do have striping - have a somewhat prominent streak about a 1/3-rd way from the left side going from the bottom of the screen to somewhere in the middle (it goes further just less visibile). The rest aren't that bad - visible given the right circumstances, but ignorable. The glow and...
If only they made a 30" version .... gah, but with the crappy economy, the CAD taking a serious nosedive for no reason, probably wouldn't be able to afford it if and when it comes out
