The thermalright Venomous fit fine. Don't think the formula is much different to any x58 mobos in respect to CPU coolers. I'm running with 12GB g-skill Ripjaw which is fortunately low, stsndard profile RAM.
Cheers.
Yes It's a liyyle odd just apears to be the graphics looking at the futuremark...
Yes I guess it will probably settle a little lower, most new boards seem to haeve a premium at 1st then settle back.
Too true after coming back from the AMD 890FX and the Crosshair IV that's a real PIA. :)
Asus Rampage III Formula
Thought you guys might like to share this review of the Asus Rampage II Formula
I don't think it's quite as good looking as the Asus Crosshair IV Formula. Looking at the options for LN2, the Digi+ and extra BIOS feartures and tweaks it looks a bit more muscular...
yes it's a hard one. the ga-ep45-ud3P is a damn good board. The upgrade would certainly be cheaper than one requiring ddr3. Why don't you just upgrade mobo & move Q9450 to new mobo ?

Nobody is saying that . We have a situation were some coolers have fans & some don't. So the true & others needs to be copmpared including the cost of a fan.
That has nothing to do wirth your buying preferences etc., sure if you have a couple of decent fans already you'll go for a cooler...
I regognise fully what your saying. But my issue was with the rather misleading $/Performance table.
As I and others have said, for a proper comparison $/performance comparison you need to be comparing like with like. Either by taking the price of fans out or adding them in so that all are...
As others have said, how can you do a serious "Price/Performance " without factoring in fans for heatsinks reatiling without them.:D
Alternatively how about deducting the retail price of noctuas fans from the package?
Noctua NF-P14 FLX $24.95
Noctua NF-P12-1300 $22.29
By my reckoning this...
yes they are compatable with AHCI, but are a mass produced low cost ~£15 item and sometimes start to play up. might be worth cleaning it with a cd lens cleaner disc, to see if that improves things.
yep air gets in the paste and reduces cooling efficiency. A feature of modern pastes like tx3 is not to spread it as air gets in but to just place a blob in the centre and it will spread itself undert pressure from the block, remaining airtight.
Just look at the Asus P7 range and pick the one that suits your pocket. The deluxe is working great for me, the other boards have different phase features, but share most things.
True and the ram cooler will be up against the nocyua fan as well.
G-skill Ripjaw or trident series are reasonably low profile and will be ok, their are probably many others, but i'm less certain of them.
Had a few other things on, just cast my eyes over 0711 BTA
has less options than 0606

I7-860 wasn't great, see main index for clocks, but at least I5-750 is reasonable 4.2Ghz both at 1,600Mhx & 1,900Mhz:-
At least managed a sub 9m Pi 32m:)

Ahh that's very nice. Yes your right about the usb headers though, extension lead is a must. I wish they'd ditch the old ide sockets, which would allow more space to put usb headers in better position. A sata dvd and usb stick aren't that expensive
