Temperature/Humidity Control in your Home DC?

I'll be moving to a new place soon and I'm trying to work out where I want to place my cabinets so that I can maintain proper temperature/humidity to them. Those with home DCs - what do you do (if anything) to maintain a good environment for your equipment?

Darn, I should've taken pictures during the build. I hate to take it apart now because i hot glued a few components so the PCB doesn't push back into the case. I'll try to explain it though - I just did it while watching Modern Family and Colbert :-P 1. De-solder the antennas so they can...

I've been using my old WRT54G running dd-wrt as an AP. I wanted to consolidate rack space so I decided to put it in a 5.25" bay - it's not too pretty, but it works:

I'm using 2x Avocent CPS1610's (one as a spare). I decided to adapt from RS232 on each machine to RJ45 though so I only had to run one type of cable for all machines. Each machine has console redirection to serial for me to control it remotely. Hopefully after this weekend I'll have it...

    Network pics thread

Finally got my out-of-band system setup (monoprice had been out of RS232 to RJ45 adapters for a month!) and cables are cleaned up. No zip ties allowed, all velcro. Still need proper rails for servers on the bottom half as they are sitting on each other or shelves. Also need to call electrician...

Seconded. I tested it across ~100 yard lake in my back yard (LOS) and still received full signal on the other side with no issues. Definitely overkill for a home network.. but this is [H] afterall ;)

Nice - how much did you get it for? There was one at my local surplus store last week that some other guy snatched up in the 5 minutes from when the store opened until I got there... got it for $15. I was sad. :(

    Switch Recommendation

HP 2824 is good investment. I know you said you were looking for something only 12 port though... I picked one up a few months ago on ebay for $250 in good condition and can't say enough good things about it.

    Network Monitoring

Just my 2 cents... Nagios is the long standing network monitoring tool that has a lot of great plugins - but my god is it a pain to setup. You will spend a good amount of time configuring things and customizing the configurations to accommodate all of your system needs - but once you get things...

    Dust control in home DC?

You're right - but I guess a variable left out here is the price for the unit. I was able to acquire the honeywell for $10 used and then $10 for a replacement filter. Anyways, we can be picky about the difference in efficiency between these two but I'd rather further this thread by getting...

    Dust control in home DC?

Well, based on the link you sent me - the Honeywell HEPA I have is rather decent. I am aware the Ionic Breeze devices don't accomplish much, but they were meant as a secondary form of dust control (and were a gift) which consume VERY little power. Unfortunately, ditching the carpet doesn't...

    Dust control in home DC?

This is a continuation of sorts from the gallery thread a few weeks back. I was wondering what those of you do to control dust in your home racks. I find this to be a constant battle with my equipment and have been playing with some different solutions recently. As of now I have 2 of...

Finally tracked down a cabinet in my area and got a great deal on it. It came in yesterday - and I'm waiting on some more mounting hardware to come in so I can move the rest of my equipment in. I don't dare open the back and take pictures - much more cable management needs to be...

    Network pics thread

Does anyone have an ionic breeze around their home dc or network equipment? I have one in the same room as my equipment - but it hadn't ever occurred to me that that those things create some sort of static environment in which to attract debris (though maybe I'm way off on that). Does having...

Tripp Lite Racks - Any good?

Sigh.. Very jealous. I've been looking constantly on craigslist and ebay but there's nothing available in my area. I may just hold out and keep looking on those sites for a better deal than paying retail. I'm not looking forward to all of the costs to order in all of the different rack...

Tripp Lite Racks - Any good?

Can anyone tell me if they've had good or bad experiences with Tripp Lite racks? This looked like a nice price for a 4 post (with free shipping): http://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-SR4POST-4-Post-Cabinet/dp/B000FAKFNC/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1280607138&sr=1-1

    APC Smart-UPS 3000VARM3U 30A to 15A Adapter?

Found something interesting when reading about this UPS further... Turns out you can buy replacement backplates to adapt to the input type you need. Here is a 15A input backplate.. However, since installing it would be downgrading to 15A max for the UPS, it limits the provided capacity of the...

    APC Smart-UPS 3000VARM3U 30A to 15A Adapter?

Definitely, which is why I was wary about placing it on the same 30 amp circuit with any other device. That's a lot of power.. I don't think it'd be wise for me to cheap out wiring arrangements.

    APC Smart-UPS 3000VARM3U 30A to 15A Adapter?

I decided to just do things right and install a dedicated 30amp circuit for the UPS (and luckily my apartment property manager approved it!) I'm going to just have the receptacle installed right under the panel (about 5 ft away from my server rack). Still waiting for some electrician estimates...

    APC Smart-UPS 3000VARM3U 30A to 15A Adapter?

    APC Smart-UPS 3000VARM3U 30A to 15A Adapter?

Hi all, Picked one of these monstrous things up at a surplus sale today for $100 :) APC Smart-UPS 3000VA RM3U ...Couldn't really beat that price, and with some of the storms in my area lately I wanted a solution to keep my network running vs. depending on the those cheap "office...

What about setting up web-based viewer template and have the monitoring stations connect to your (guessing intranet) website. Start machines using out-of-band management?

I'm familiar with the techniques to get WOL running on a card that supports it - but the nic installed does not. It won't matter if I configure it to accept WOL commands if the NIC does not support it.

    Start machines using out-of-band management?

Hi all - I have a few machines I'm trying to setup so that I can start them up remotely. I am using a dual 10/100 nic in the only PCI slot on the machine and it does NOT support WOL. I'm wondering if I could accomplish the triggered start using out-of-band management. I see that Microsoft...

    802.3ad performance vs. rr-balance

I've been playing around with link aggregation in my home lab for the last few days and wanted to ask a question regarding 803.ad for those who use it in their facilities. Do you notice the difference in performance in using 803.ad vs. just using rr-balance (mode 0) or other modes of link...

    802.3ad supported switch for cheap
