Since I know, I usually Newegg, but they were charging way more for this board than ZipZoomFly. Agreed about Newegg returns. On one order, I had nothing but problems with power supply and motherboard compatibility, but their automated process eliminated all the headaches of getting replacements..
Something's wrong with this HardOCP post as I can't see page 3 unless I go to printable view. Anyway, that's too bad you had a problem with the board. Ironically, I did not want to buy XFX anymore, and purchased my replacement Asus 780i board from ZipZoomFly. I'm glad XFX has stepped up to...
UPDATE: After the defective SB cooling on my XFX, I went with the Asus P5N-T which appears to have a better cooling system. The problem I had now was that it would only boot 1/3 of the time. Do these installs ever go smoothly?!? Anyway, I realized it had a very early BIOS revision (0402) so I...
I appears that my "MCP Temperature" overheating problems stem from the heatsink not contacting the MCP south bridge (NF570), apparently nothing to do with the northbridge. If i push down on it, the temps start to drop immediately, but I let it go and shoot back up. The "Motherboard" temp is...
1. Is this based on your experience with this board?
2. After some AS5, do you think I can run passive?
3. What's a decent temp for this thing?
Thanks for the advice.
Got mine. Amazingly everything booted right away! My Vista old load worked, but seems unstable so I'll just go ahead and reinstall again.
My main concern is the temperature of the MCP. I am a silent pc fan so I wanted to run passive on the NB, but the damn thing shot up to 95C when I got...
I saw a bunch of these at Fry's too. I'm thinking of getting this board since I want the extra SATA, USB and firewire headers for my case. Also, my Abit Fatal1ty board has no firewire, the NIC doesn't even work and I think only does 8x8 pci-e lanes in SLI. It was still cheaper than the Asus...
After problems even getting the game to properly switch to 1920x1080 (it would not fill the screen have black bars on both sides of the screen and eventually freeze the game, not Vista), I found that if you alt-enter a few times, it will eventually go full screen properly.
After updating to...
I thought I was badass and set everything to very high, but got a slideshow. Ran the auto-detect, which set it to medium and 1024x768 and now I get about 15-20fps. I guess I can forget about running at native 1920x1080.
Yeah Fry's is pretty cool except for the poor service, and poor parking (at the Manhattan Beach one I go to), but it's always crowded. Here in SoCal, every Fry's has a different theme like Alice in Wonderland, H.G. Wells Time Machine, Space Shuttle (full scale shuttle inside), Tropical...
I'd agree that the 1.3 patch is to blame for this since I've really never had any problem, except 1.21(?) which would kick me out of Warlord after like 30 min. The fact that it works perfectly for some, but not all means EA/Dice needs to test on a wider variety of hardware.
I finally solved my "Connection Lost" error by using a 10/100 usb 2.0 ethernet adapter (Airlink) that Fry's had on sale for $2.99 that was laying around. I have two computers and a laptop, but the PC in my sig kept kicking me out to the browser menu in BF2...f'n annoying. I didn't think it was...
Time for some grenade action!
FYI: The comment I made about Intel being more stable than AMD was in regard to which platform was more stable as the BF2 server only, which is extremely demanding. I have rarely ever had a client PC crash on me.
Yeah it was only a very recent addition, but I've been playing coop from the very beginning. Also I think it maxes out at 32 bots and I'm not sure what the tickets can be set to. I'll try it out later on so I'm not talking out of my arse.
No problem. With these mods, BF2 becomes one of the greatest coop games ever made and it should have shipped out like this. FYI: I tested both my Intel and AMD systems and the Intel was more stable with far fewer crashes to desktop.
Server: P4 640 HT (3.2GHz), 2GB, 7800GT.
Don't get rid of the game just yet! Here's a walkthrough I made for playing a Co-op LAN game with 64-bots, 2000+ tickets. I'm currently using it with patch 1.3 and it works with expansion packs Special Forces, Euro Force and Armored Fury. Just remember to back up all your files because you...
This looks pretty interesting. I used to think Halo on the Xbox was fun until I got Battlefield 2 which had way more freedom to do stuff, especially when hacked to run 64 bots, 2000+ tickets and co-op. You can play any way you want, so after BF2, I can't go back to story based games like Halo...
I played the DC more and bought more games for it than any other system to date, incl. Xbox and PS2. Almost every single game was a winner. As my buddy used to say, "Dreamcast was the best system evarr in the history of evarr!!"
Just did more testing using the most brutal test I could find, the ATI Double-Cross Ruby Demo v1.2. With the Zalman VF-700Cu on 12V, the X1900XTX topped out at 99C after only a few minutes!!! It didn't crash, but I'm gonna put the stock cooler back on even if it's noisy. This is the first...
Damn. That sucks that you get a temperature jump. It's strange that your ambient GPU temp drops, but the GPU itself heats up more. At least your your Raptor and NF4 chipset run cooler!
For my testing, I used Half-Life 2 Lost Coast (@ 1280x720) in a window and watched the ATi CCC...
As requested!
1. I didn't seem to have a problem as I took it off to look and it squished all the AS5, so I'm pretty sure it's good contact.
2. At 12V, the Zalman makes more noise, but sounds much smoother than the hoarse buzzing of the stock ATi fan. I'm gonna run it at 5V for quietness...
I recently installed the VF-700Cu with Arctic Silver 5 on my new X1900XTX and the biggest improvement is noise. Temperatures improved only slightly, but the silence makes it a huge improvement.
Stock: 55C idle, 81C load
VF-700Cu: 50C idle, 78C load (fan at 5v)
I had this exact problem when I adjusted the mouse settings during a running game, which was a known bug. Maybe try restarting the game and making your mouse adjustments before you enter a game. This worked for me.
Thanks for the feedback. Never thought about how it felt, just how compatible it'd be with games. A force feedback shifter would be nice, but would probably be expensive as hell.
This accessory would be even better if Gran Turismo or Forza supported it. Does anyone have any experience with how well this works? Just got this email from them and I'm thinking of ordering one since it looks damn cool.

I have an AIW X1800XL and my stock temps (ATI Tool) were a ridiculous 74C idle and 91C load, but to its credit, it never locked once. I got the zalman vf-700cu with Arctic Silver 5 and temps dropped to 56C idle and 74C under load using the lowest fan setting and it's damn near silent! The...
Thanks. Just know that Westinghouse now has a larger 42" model that has a faster 8ms response time, sleeker cabinet, sub-woofer, HDMI input, and both of the DVI inputs support 1080p now. My 37" has a 12ms response time, no sub-woofer, no HDMI and only one DVI supports 1080p (the other DVI only...
My quick review of the Westinghouse.
HIGHS: Very good PC picture quality. Excellent for daily computing use (1920x1080, DVI is best!), plenty of inputs for the new consoles and other devices, PIP, lots of display options, relatively inexpensive, friggin' BIG. Excels at gaming, movies, HDTV...
I have both the MX518 and the G5. The G5's wheel sucks as it's hard to click it without having it scroll up or down and they also got rid of the forward button for Internet browsing. One step forward, two steps back. I might give the Copperhead a try.
I'm not really a Star Wars fan, so when a friend let me borrow SW: BF 1 Xbox, I let it sit for a while, but when I finally tried it, expecting nothing, I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread! Totally non-linear gameplay, different classes, taking strategically located bases, and...
I'd be happy if they made 60fps the minimum requirement for all games, which I'm sure both the Xbox 360 and PS3 are capable of. Of course, this is assuming the programmers have the resources to optimize the game to do so.
