I appreciate the advice, everyone. USB sound cards are dirt cheap I bought one just to try it out.
dandragonrage, thanks for your suggestions. I have spent many hours troubleshooting this issue. I have quadruple checked that the correct output device is selected (this is the same config...
I have been trouble shooting the strangest problem I have ever encountered in my 20 years of computer use. The long story short is that my PC will not produce sound through any analog plugs. Yes, I even added in a descrete sound card. Sound does however come from the digital (optical) port and...
Ok so I raised the vcore to 1.616v @ 250x10 and it failed prime.
I decided to lower the mulitplier to 9 for S&G's and so i raised the HTT to 278 which calculates to 2504, actually 4 mhz more than what i just tried. I kept the vcore the same.
It passes SuperPI, OCCT, and its not on its...
I bought a 3200+ venice because I wanted the 10 multiplier. I made a lot of posts about 5 months ago trying to get my 3000+ to its sweet spot. I belive I got around 2600mhz. Im following the guides over on DFI street.
So I have been working on this 3200+ for about 2 days now, and I can raise...
2-2-2 and 3-4-4 have barely difference in performace you say?
I would REALLY like to have proof because 3-4-4 is the only speed my OCZ will work @ right now, and people are telling me that that is horrible.
Ok, i think my memory is bad.
seriously
cause the ONLY way I can get into windows is 3-4-4-10 @ 3.0V
Why 3.0V? Cuase 2.7,8 won't load windows, 2.9 loads windows but reboots as soon as I open a program.
Can anyone say RMA?
I doubt anyone of you guys remember me from the DFI venice oc thread over in the OC section, but it took me about a week and I have finally found the sweet spot of my CPU: 290x9 1.5V
Since I have a 3000+ I dont have a large multiplier, so that meant I needed to raise the FSB a lot. Because I...
are you also changing your chipset voltages, your LTD multiplier, your ram voltage, or your ram divider? All those things needs to be changed also when you start raising your fsb.
Ok, so a lot of people have been saying that certain SATA ports on DFI boards are not locked.
For someone who doesn't know, when a drive (in my case, two 200GB HDD's) is connected to an unlocked port it can cause severe data corruption. I remember trying to overclock my old 2500+ XP and I...
Depends on the voltage for the chip set too. I bumped mine from 1.5 to 1.8V
Anyway, just wanted to put in my 2 cents that my chipset idles around 47 and max load if around 55C
I never thought of the video card thing. Will defenitely try that..
I also recommend reading that thread. I have the exact same hardware as your and founf overclocking very difficult in the beginning. That thread documents my entire journey. :)
Those temps look fine except for the CPU. Mobo and video cards looks normal but 63C for your CPU is high. And if those reading where done in windows, chances are they weren't on-die temps and those can be as much as 10C higher, meaning your CPU MAY have been running at near 75C, whichi s melt...
A divider does nothing more than lower the mhz that your memory is running at. Instead of running at the same speed as your Front Side Bus, it is divided and ran at a slower speed.
Yes there would be a performace difference but that differnece is only because of the lower mhz.
If you do...
I was running my 3000+ (Venice core) at just over 1.7V for almost 2 weeks. No problems at all. Not I dropped the vcore down to 1.52v but there were never any horrific occurances @ 1.71V.
I wasn't very comfortable running my cpu at anything over 1.7V. Btw, I have air cooling, very good air...
Almost every person I talked to said that Cool N Quiet with any o/c can cause a lot of problems.
With no intention of stealing your thread, should you be using Cool N Quiet even thought you decided to OC? Should I?
LTD speed doesnt matter at all. at 200mhz HTT your LTD is 2000mhz. Anything over 2000 and most board go crasy, make sure your dropping the LTD multiplier, i dropped mine from x5 to x2 cause like i said, it really makes ni differnce how low it is.
Also, have to tried changing your chipset...

.
Its rather funny. but if you go back in my posting you can see that the o/c that I have above simply wouldnt happen at the voltage that I am crrently at. I just dropped it even lower and I am running Prime95 as i type.
2 weeks...
Hello everyone.
Don't know if you guys have read this thread in a while, but here is my update.
My 300x9 was never stable. Even at 1.71V. It would last about 10 hours in Prime95 then the entire computer would reboot. So i changed to 295x9 @ 1.69V and although Prime ran fine I just didn't...
I, on the other hand played Wow for almost 5 hours with prime95 running in the background fine, then I quit wow and prime failed with a rounding error about 30 seconds after it closed.
I have gone back to the 9 multiplier. 300 x 9 which i couldnt get beforebut now I am typing this message in...
The benchmark wouldnt run.
"Module could not be changed."
I have version 2005.2.10.50 and I was wondering if anyone else experienced this problem.
The CPU benchmakrs work fine.
I have re-installed it.
I an running a 3000+ @ 340 x 8 and my memory is on a 3/4 divider to equal...
I am now discovering that the memory is what is making my overclocks fussy. If I go too far under 200 mhz, XP crashes, i was able to go all the way just past 250 (DDR500) before xp started crashing again. I only had the voltage at 2.9 so i took it to 3.0v and windows works fine. Raised the FSB...
well here is the update.
I got 260 as stated before.and tried to go to 275, didn't work. Kept giving it voltage the way to 1.69V. Wouldn't work.
I saw another person on this forum get 335 x 8, and i found the 8 multiplier interesting, so i switched my fsb to 315 x 8, and still nothing. So...
Ok, so i'll stick with Prime95 then.
Ok, so a temp question. What is too much? A few websites have said that 65C is the max and @ 1.616 V I'm getting 34C Idle and 47C Load with my xp-120.
47 is still fine in my eyes, I just wondered at what point I should go OMG and turn off the computer...
260 x 9
1.584v
27 hours Prime95 stable, sweet!
Raised it to 270 and running prime right now.
Do you think Prime95 is the best tester? I think for long burn-in it would definately be, but are there any program that you don't have to run for hours to find an error? Just wondering...
the 5v thing, if it is a true problem, doesnt effect me since i would never set my ram over 3.2v.
Okay, right after I made my first post, I had prime running for about 5 min and then I started up WOW and my computer rebooted. :(
I increased that vcore to +13% and CPU-Z states it is @...
Ok, i have been reading this post from page 1to9 and it has been VERY helpful.
I hvave a new venice 3000+ and a dfi ultra-d (you can see why this post helped me out.)
I started overclocking on my own 10 mhz at a time and couldnt past 230 mhz. And this was with keeping the fsb/ram ratio so...
