Whoa. Not everyone is merry this season. I asked who to blame between Asus and Intel, not because I'm intolerant of failure or want to yell at someone, but only because I would like to have an idea if this mb + cpu combo is bad, or one particular part is bad. There's a non-zero risk of...
Thanks everyone for responding. I tried one stick of RAM and that got nowhere (on two different mb's). In fact, I tried NO RAM at all just to see if I could at least get a different debug code than the dreaded 00 and no luck. Does anyone know how accurate that little LED (near the large power...
I'm freaked out. Have built almost two dozen systems over the past 15 years and I've had the usual amount of hardware fails -- a few motherboards that had issues, a failed gpu, etc. Never had a CPU go bad.
Built a new rampage V ed. 10 w/ i7-6900k about three weeks ago and this week in the...
Yup. The "A" is the new model w/ usb3.1. Personally, I don't care about the usb update -- but having all the bugs ironed out = awesome. Updated bios for most of the new msi boards is at http://forum.hwbot.org/showthread.php?t=133282

Folks:
In another thread I asked a few questions about x99 mb's without bugs and I ended up replacing an msi x99s xpower with an msi x99a xpower -- the only difference is supposed to be the addition of usb 3.1 to the x99a. The reason for the new board is that the old board had one of the...
x58 users unite!
Thanks for all the comments -- the reason I originally went w/ MSI is b/c of the huge number of complaints about the rampage V (which, from looking at the ROG forums, don't seem to have let up).
One additional issue with MSI, though, besides my failed board is that they...
Folks:
I had an msi x99 xpower ac. It was "mostly" stable for the past year and a great performer, but there were semi-continual annoyances w/ USB devices and booting. Finally, woke up this week and found the computer dead -- the primary bios is trashed (a hardware issue, unrecoverable) and...
Some thoughts:
1. did you update the bios? The latest on the website for msi is 1.4 and that's a must. But, on http://www.overclock.net/t/1511496/official-msi-x99s-motherboard-owners-club there's a beta in the thread of 1.5 that worked really well for me.
2. I assume you're starting off...
What ram and timings are you trying?
Hard to believe it's the motherboard, esp since you're on your second. I have 64gb of vengeance running at 2400 without any problems.
Any difference in build quality between the xpower and rog?
I'm also interested in the heat difference -- it seems from your review and other sites that the xpower runs cooler than the rog. True?
thanks for all the info.

Folks: been trying to decide between boards and these are two on the list for use with an i7-5960x. One weird thing on the guru3d review on both boards is that the cpu temps are a lot lower for the msi board than the rve. Any clues why this would be?
It seems like it's enough that it'd...
1. most ram manufacturers (including g.skill) charge a large premium for matched sets. If you're risk acceptant, you can get two batches of 4x8gb of the same ripjaws for much less cash.
Though, if you're going to build a box like this, it's not obvious to me that you care that much about a...
Yeah, it posted. Repeatedly crashed right after the windows splash screen came up.
Wierd.
Warmer today and no problems. Been running benchmarks so plenty of opportunity for it to act naughtily (and it hasn't).
So, a couple of new things.
1. without any oc, I get 19 seconds flat on hexus pifast. In comparison, I have an x58 (ud5) w/ a 980x and that gets 24.3x.
2. I have seen the boot problem other folks are reporting with the asus x79 deluxe board. I woke up one morning and the room w/ the box was...
Folks:
Got the new sabertooth board and 64gb of the matched g.skill ram. Also, an msi lightning 6970, i7-3960k, sea sonic 850w, 256gb crucial m4, and a 2tb wd black.
Good news:
1. The miniature fan on the mb that has some folks worried b/c it's not passive cooling is detachable -- if...
It seems (though the sample is small) that the asus boards are doing better with the corsair memory than the g.skill. Which sucks -- the ripjaws are cheap (relatively), fast, and come in wonderful 4x8gb or 8x8gb kits.
Well, rats. I would leap on the asus deluxe, but other folks in the forums here and on the asus site are having problems with the g.skill ram I have in hand.
I build a monster box every year; I've had better success with gigabyte than asus, so that's why I was looking at the ud5. The asus...
I'm thinking of doing a new box w/ lots o' ram -- anyone know what the story is with the gigabyte boards? It appears that only the ud5 has 8 dimm slots; the ud7 and the assassin only have 4. Seems odd.
Thanks for any info. It also seems from the various benchmarks that the different x79...
Folks:
I went w/ the ud7 for my workstation, and it shipped with the f6 bios (revision 1 of the mb). It handled the g.skill 6x4 pack just fine without any fiddling. So if anyone else is considering a build with a lot of memory, after a week of work, it's gone fine in a variety of tests /...
Folks:
I'm running 12gb ram on a gigabyte x58 I put together a year ago -- no problems, works great.
Anyone have any experience with any motherboards using 24gb? The 4gb modules are cheap enough now to throw into a workstation without bleeding to death (g.skill ripjaws are under 750$) and...
you can get 4x4gb of the g.skill ripjaws for around 760$. Compared to a year or two ago, that's astonishingly great.
3. 2. 1. until someone feels the urge to post "Why would you want 24 gb?" question.
Folks:
Has anyone tried 6x4gb on any of the x58 boards? I've got 2x6gb on a gigabyte x58 ud5, but with ram prices falling and the new kits with 4gb modules, I'm looking to build a new system.
Not so interested in overclocking but I do need stability at stock speeds.
Thanks for any info.
OK. I'm clearly going nuts, but I'm dissatisfied with both of these mice.
The lachesis, as others have noted, is a weird long shape, and if you like to rest your palm on it, it's not entirely comfortable. This isn't a deal breaker. But, what REALLY bugs me are the side buttons. They're...
So anyone take a leap on this monitor? If it's decent on lag for gaming, it's not a bad price on amazon (~1000) for a 26" IPS panel at 1920x1200. I can't find reviews anywhere though.
I have the ud5 + 12gb of the g.skill ddr 1600 (2x the triple channel packs). I'm not oc'ing anything, but it's been absolutely stable. I do a fair amount of coding + stats apps that use the ram, and no crashes, no fuss.

There's a lot of misinformation in this thread.
First, there are differences in support. You can buy great support from Dell or HP. That of itself has nothing to do with the inherent stability or features of a particular board / chipset.
Second, a lot of the workstation boards are not...
I think no one has answered the original question b/c no one knows. A bunch of people asked the same question about the Asus boards in earlier threads, and no one knew then either, though there was some speculation.
As far as the claim that one should be using a workstation board instead of...
New rule for the forum: no more questions or statements about "why would you need so much ram?"
Some of us use it. Get over the fact that you're not as bad as my bad self unlimited. In fact right now, I'm burning on 10 of my 12gb of ram.
If you do NOT cease and desist on the stupid and...
I have the ud5 and went with the P182. I love this case, but w/ this board and a gtx 260 (evga sc) it's a tight freaking squeeze. I tried using the hd bay in the main compartment behind the pcie slots, and decided it sucked ass too much to fiddle with and ripped out the hd enclosure. I'm now...
Yup. I have the ud5 (not the extreme version) and no problems at all. It's been on continuously since I bought it, and other than reboots due to vista patches, no reboots, BSOD's, or anything else awry.
I'm also running 12gb of ram on semi-aggressive timings, but I haven't OC'd it yet...
Folks:
Does anyone have any experience w/ routers that have a usb input and connecting a hard drive to it? Faster or slower than the other options?
Thanks
