I have the same chip/board combo on a Fedora-based workstation at home, it works well. I had some troubles booting with UEFI at first, but that has resolved itself.
I don't play games on my workstation but need to power 2 1440p monitors. I found an open-box GTX 630 w/2GB vmem and it works...
I have the StarUSA adapter. It gets power but fails to accept/eject discs. The cable could be the problem, but I would be surprised.
I have the ASRock Z87E-ITX, read that the C12 would work, but haven't seen it in a semi-passive setup...
Got my parts in and installed F20. The slim load DVD from Digistor was defective, the load mechanics don't work. I replaced the fan on the ST455F and noise is fine, except for the stock intel cooler I have on the i5. Any suggestions for an air cooler I can slap on and use semi-passively...
Doorbell rang as I was reading your response - serial # 301 arrived in perfect condition. Great quality, still can't get over how small it is. You guys really did a great job, proud to be part of it!
I was at the MC in paterson (NJ) on wednesday - a couple of salespeople were putting arrows on the floor with tape for the checkout line ahead of BF. I swear to god they had the line wrapping halfway around the store.
I don't know about the rest of you, but saving a few bucks isn't worth an...
Hard to say if 16GB will be memory w/o knowing what you'll be running. For example, I run a ZFS vm and had to upgrade to 32GB to have enough memory left for my other vms...
There are no perfect monitors out there - trust me I've searched. I've been trying to find a good 27" 2560x1440 but every one suffers from something or the other. I'm looking at a PB278Q now that's great except at off-angles it looks like a TN panel (contrast glare, etc). I figure I'm willing...
I've had dozens of cases over the years, and I can't imagine ever replacing my 500R. Throw a H100 up top and a few side fans on your GPUs and this case cannot be beat. It's an absolute steal at this price.
I noticed the pictures don't show the spot up top that was made to house the...
I went through the same search for my 305t+. I searched for monitors with similar dimensions, reasonably close pixel sizes, etc. I ended up finding some used 204Ts and they worked perfectly.
I recommend looking at older 4:3 1600x1200 monitors and try to find something that works...
I'm trying to decide b/t 2 x 2713HM's and the new 3014. I love the specs on the 27, and for the price 2 are cheaper than 1 of the 30s.
Do you find that the 16:9 resolution annoys you at all? I guess compared to the 29 it probably doesn't, but I'm concerned about it moving from an old...
I might have missed it in your post somewhere - but what are you planning to use for your raid controller? Even for RAID1 you'll need something that's on the ESX whitelist... (Or hackable)
I need to upgrade the memory on my ESXi "all-in-one" machine to 32GB. I have 4 of these sticks available. They have been working flawlessly in my SupeMicro X8SIL-F for 3 years:
Model: KVR1333D3Q8R9S/4G
Capacity: 4GB
Speed: DDR3 1333
Cas Latency: 9
Voltage: 1.5V
ECC: Yes...
I run an ESXi 5 box with several VMs, including a Win7 VM w/Media Center - no passthru GPU. I've allocated minimal resources to it as I only have 1 extender (ceton echo) on the network. I use a HDHR Prime 3-tuner network device with a cable card to decrypt FIOS cable. This works perfectly for...
All PCI passthrough is broken in 5.1? I'm on 5.0 now, and passthrough an HBA for an OI NAS VM. Are you saying I can't upgrade yet?
I have an HD HomeRun Prime so I should be ok from that front. I guess it can't hurt to try the setup again to see for myself.
Thanks!
Has anyone successfully 'virtualized' a windows media center instance - passing the hardware performance/capability tests - with ESX 5.1? I'm curious if the new hardware accelerated graphics support makes the difference.
I'd like to finally compress my last 2 physical machines - I still need...
The deal also seems to work for H77 boards as well, but YMMV. On 2 separate occasions now I've paired the i5-3570k with the ASRock H77M-ITX and received the discount at the register.
how about an i7 920 (D0 stepping) and an ASUS P6X58D Premium motherboard. I also have it full of 12 GB of DDR3 if interested (6x2GB)

This is powering my lab PC right now and has been running great. I'm...
R3 is sold but the other 2 are still available. Willing to ship the PC-Q08 - but keeping the stacker for local since it's big and not-worth-all-that-much.
This server sits under my desk about 3 feet away - I don't notice any noise. I have 2 x 120 fans (1000 rpm, 15 db) in the front, and the stock cpu fan. The case's noise dampening keeps most of that inside the case - I really only here it when I put my head down under my desk, and even then...
I picked up the black pearl R3 for my ESXi / NAS all-in-one:
BTW, if anyone it the states is interested, I have a second one here (brand new in original box). Search the for sale forum for my listing...
You're never safe without data backup - and RAID is not a replacement for data backup.
I struggled with this for a very long time, and never really had a satisfactory solution until I needed to put another NAS in my wife's office. Now I have my home NAS and her work NAS doing incremental...
Like I said, I really really wanted to use FreeNAS for the exact same system - NFS datastore for ESXi. After a lot of head-pounding, I went with Nexenta and couldn't be happier. I recommend checking it out.
what version of FreeNAS/ZFS?
I had problems with FreeNAS 7 and NFS - which ultimately led me to Nexenta. With your specs, I don't think the overall throughput numbers are that far off for an encrypted RAIDZ array. What does your server CPU/Memory look like during read/write operations?
I would consider QNAP and Synology to be in the same class - both are excellent and would suite your needs very well.
I've used the TS-219 and TS-419 pro QNAP appliances with 1 & 1.5 TB WD Black drives, and 2 TB WD Green (4K) drives. Everything work without any problem, though I did have to...
