I have had a pair of these for just about 2 years.
I have to say, at first they were awesome. But then, about 5 months ago,the mic started to go. It just gave static and then finally it stopped working all-together. I got so frustrated. I went on their site to look this up and they just have...
Thanks for the help. Whew.
I took off the HSF, wiped off the thermal paste with rubbing alcohol then re-applied some OCZ paste I got from compUSA (only stuff they had). After 2 tries of this, I have a stable processor at around 25-30c idle.
Only concern, was running prime95 for about 45min...
I just put together a new system with an i7. I came home today after working to find it off. I started it again but it's auto shutting it off within 30seconds to 1 minute.
I looked in my Bios and my CPU temp is at 85 degrees. That seems HIGH. I'm using stock HSF and that's in boot up menu on...
OK, well now the CPU and RAM LED is lit up, and hte RAM LED is blinking which, according to the manual means it's "tuning the RAM..." but it's been doing that for 5 min straight w/no boot screen.
WOW.
I was coming here just to post something and I'm running into a similar issue.
I have the ASUS P7P55D as well.
I'm getting a red CPU_LED light on. I verified i've seated the CPU correctly THREE TIMES. It won't boot. The POST LED is green though...
I appreciate all the comments. The overspray was intentional. Go look at real military equipment. It may not be PERFECT but that's the point. If I wanted it perfect I'd have done it by hand and that would have been a bitch.
So far no issues with paint wanting to chip at all. I did sand down the metal and I did a lot of light coats of XIM primer which (supposedly) sticks to damn near anything.
Here, have some of my XPS:
A full military theme. Took me 3 days to do the case, and about another 4 to finish the details. Works like a charm though!
the back star is a military one from WWII that my friend did using a stencil he cut by hand.
Left side.
Right side.
The base green coat of paint.
I wasn't happy with the buttons so I ended up re-coloring them later.
My good friend did the stencil for the back of the laptop by hand. I'm really happy with it and I really appreciate his help:
This is masking for the yellow caution striping...
OK, I have had My XPS M-170 for a while now, (3 years to be exact). It still runs games quite nicely and without much in the way of hiccups. I've replaced the screen myself after a crack, and upgraded the RAM to 2GB but that's about it.
I've done a couple casemods already that were fairly...
I find it funny that this guy has gone out of his way to copy/paste this same complaint all over the net.
He even registered multiple usernames on cnet to give them low scores.
I mean, dude. I have to think that given all the warning signs, the majority of the fault in the matter is...
the only issue here being that... I didn't use the 2 into 1 molex connector, and I'm wondering it just one 4 pin is ok or do I need to use that dual one for sure...
How important is the second rail going to the 8800gt? Will I be hosed if I don't connect it? Is it REQUIRED or is it there just in case? I know this may be a nub question but if you could let me know I'd appreciate it. I'm running a 520watt PSU.
This laptop cost over 2X my M170 BRAND NEW.
This laptop is like a convergence of brand new and over-priced technologies. Coming together like some mega-transformer to reach a sky-high price echelon that is just stupid.
I used to think 3k for a laptop is insane.
It comes with SLI no...
Mystofolyse: Why? That's just a statement on a forum and really doesn't mean anything.
Thefewtheproud: Sorry, your answer wasn't really to my question, i know it will work, but I'm talking about the OS being designed with apps to USE the functionality of the tablet.
As i know it, XP...
Has anyone used vista for tablets? How is it?
I only say this because there's an XP tablet edition which i believe has tablet-specific software. It would seem that XP Tablet would be a better choice for tablets. Anyone have any experience w/this?
As a long-time reader of HardOCP and poster on HardForums I find this article not up to the standards of HardOCP.
Kyle, there was a way to go about solving this problem, and the way you did it was not only incorrect but makes you come off like a pompous blow-hard and reflects badly on the...
I just bought 2GB (2x1GB) memory for my XPS M170. It's Corsair ValueSelect DDR2 667mhz but when I popped it into my XPSM170 the Bios is showing it rated 533mhz.
Does the M170 support 667 or am I screwed?
Thanks.
So I have this big laptop, and there are plenty of cases that it will fit in, but I find that all the accessories I take along with it, are the things that cause problems. See, I usually take the following w/me in my bag (in addition to the laptop):
7' network cable
headphones
wireless...
Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a good microATX mobo that uses the Core 2 Duo chip and has decent Overclocking capabilities. I'm using a custom case that only accepts microATX so that's really my only option.
Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
Hey I have an idea,
Let's go into a thread about the best options for the new dell laptop and derail it with fanboy praise about the new macbook pro and turn it into a flamewar about which is better.
No thank you.
Frankly it's your money.
I'd say these options;
2ghz C2D...
Boon I can't believe someone actually said "i was being a dick" on an internet forum. I thought that no one could do that. :)
Anyhow, I have the XPS m170 (7800gtx) and i've been using it since the day i got it (i was probably the first person to order this model as i was very keen on getting...
boondock, thanks but no thanks, i think there are 2 separate entries in their "knowledge base" to hardOCP. What's the point of your post?
tickle, thanks! I'll check those out.
Hey guys,
When i bought my XPS i opted for the 60gb 7200rpm and while that's served me well, i'm looking to upgrade.
Will this work for me? (it's expensive but OH so worth it):

I heard there was a 160gb and a 120gb...
Hey guys,
Won this at a LAN, I have a laptop so I can't really use it. You've probably read the reviews on this card. Here's a good way to get one at 1/2 price. I'm selling this card for $150.00 I figure i can't honestly ask someone to pay more.
Hi guys.
Sorry, I normally sell on craigslist but this is sort of something that i figured you HardOCPers would appreciate.
you may certainly look up my post history on hardocp. I've got a couple mod logs over in the casemod section and have been reading HardOCP for a long time. If you...

This is for a brand new, sealed EVGA GeForce 8800GTX. The 768 MB version. This is a DirectX 10 card and is top-of-the-line.
This is the same exact card as listed here in newegg:

I got this card at a promotional event for...
HI.
I acquired this in a casemod contest. It's brand new, and it's unopened. If you were interested in getting one of these, that's $50 off for a brand new card!
