Been out of the market for a while, but recently purchased Far Cry 2, only to find it doesn't work on my current rig, so am now looking at upgrading. A mate of mine, bought the i7 920 (Nehalem) a little while ago, so was thinking about getting something similar. But had a look at some benchmarks...
Ok, I admit... I'm a newbie again (have been out of the market for awhile and totally lost track of things). So am looking at upgrading my current machine from;
MOBO: ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe nVidia nForce4
CPU: AMD Athlon64 3800+, 2.4GHz (single core)
RAM: Kingston DDR-400 2x1Gb Dual Channel...
How do you get the A8N-SLI Deluxe to detect SATA drives. I have 2 x IDE drives (250Gb each) and they are running fine. But I have recently got 2 new SATA drives that I want to add.
I don't care about RAID, I just want the mobo to pick up, that there are new devices installed.
I have tried...
Dude, that is so NOT true...
A router only directs traffic, it doesn't limit connections, like a firewall. I have an FTP server on my home machine, so that I can download data off it, from work. The router directs the specific port number to my machine, but this is all requests for this port...
Over the last 2 months, I have received 3 MB's from ASUS. All of them came in static bags, that had one end just folded over. None were sealed, but this didn't worry me too much as the ends of the bag were tucked under the board, so it couldn't come out anyway.
Jeepers, 4 PCIe-16 slots... I thought 2 was sufficient, but some people must think you can never have enough graphics cards.
Pity it only supports Intel processors at this stage...

Am I better to go with the P5WD2 Premium (chipset 955X) or P5AD2-E Premium (chipset 925XE). The P5WD2 has a few extra features that I like (such as 2 ATA headers, which I need, as I have 2 IDE hard drives and an internal CD-ROM). The P5AD2-E only has 1 (so I would have to replace one IDE hard...
Ok, so MS released an OS that they don't have drivers for yet (somehow, that doesn't sound right);

Does anyone know, where I can get some drivers, for WinXP-64 bit, for the Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Pro version 3.0.
It has a "tilt" wheel mouse that not only scrolls up and down, but also left and right. The drivers that come for WinXP-32 bit, work fine. But I have a computer...
Sorry to hijack your thread, but does the same fix work for the A8N-Sli deluxe... It does the same thing, and I can't find out how to turn it off in the BIOS either. Slows down the POST "big time"
Cripes... Forgot to mention (cause I have it turned on by default), but the 'Application Data' is a hidden directory, so you will need to turn on viewing of hidden directories (from an explorer window, choose 'Tools, Folder Options', click on the 'View' tab and make sure that 'Show Hidden Files...
Quite correct... %USERPROFILE% is your user name directory under the 'Documents and Settings' folder. The easiest way to access this, is click on 'Start, Run' and type in;
%USERPROFILE%
the click on 'Ok'...
Generally, they are stored in a pst file. If you have outlook open, then (in 2003) click on 'Tools, Options'. Choose the 'Mail Setup' tab and click on 'Data Files'. This tells you the full path to the pst file. Normally, it is;
%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst

Never used Word 2002, but Word 97 and Word 2000, both remember, what the last file type you used was. For example; if I do File, Open and the file type is 'doc', then I choose the file type of 'dot', then close word and re-open. Now, when I do File, Open, the file type is 'dot'.
Would have...
Is there a WinXP-64 bit version of DVD43? Have done a google search, and can't find anything (except some links to documents, stating that DVD43 doesn't work with x64).
I have used WMI objects quite a lot, but have never tried the temperature probe, which looks like it may do the job;

Have done two builds (one for myself, one for my sister) and both are very stable. No problems at all. The ASUS mobo picked up all components (except in Build 1, where I hade 2 x IDE drives and it only picked up the master, not the slave. But when I changed the jumpers around, so the slave...
The boot.ini is a system file, so you will need to remove the 'read-only', 'system' and 'hidden' attributes to edit it, eg:
attrib -r -h -s boot.ini

My machine isn't up and running yet, but have gone with;
X2 4600
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe Mobo
ATI X850XT 256Mb PCIe-16 graphics card (bit silly, for a SLI mobo, but I got it cheap and I don't need dual graphics cards)
ThermalTake Xaser III V2000A case
2 x 200Gb Seagate IDE HDD
Enermax 701AX...
I was thinking about getting the Kingston KVR400X64C3AK2/2G memory (2 x 1Gb modules), for the ASUS A8N-SLI DELUXE. This memory is reasonably priced, with a bandwith of PC3200 and CAS of 3.
However, I have just been offered the GEIL 2Gb Memory module (GE2GB3200BDC), which is also PC3200 and...
Thank you for your input. I have decided to go with the;

Just a question, the Coolermaster had a power consumption display. Is there anything similar for Enermax? I had a quick look at their...
This is my first AMD build (have only ever built Intel systems), so am curious about a power supply.
The Coolermaster Real Power 550W (RS-550-ACLY) states that it is compliant with the newest Intel standard ATX 12V v2.01. However, I have the ASUS A8N-SLI with the AMD Athlon 64 4000+ (2.4GHz)...
I just recently got an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe and have used the onboard sound. The quality is ok, not overly flash (but that's probably because I am using the Philips 190B6CS LCD screen that has internal speakers, instead of some quality external speakers). If you are really after high quality...
IE is kind of integrated into the OS (although it can be removed). I would advise leaving it, but setting FF (or whatever browser you are using in it's place) as the default.
You will have a lot of problems, if you do any development work, as creating XMLHTTP objects use IE components...
Jeepers, MS develops a 64-bit OS yet you can't find drivers for any of their hardware...
You've got to wonder about a company that produces a 64-bit OS but does not have 64-bit drivers for their own hardware. You also have to wonder, why they haven't released any office or development tools...
Am a little confused over, what I think is terminology. The ASUS A8N-Sli says it has the nForce4 chipset.
The specs page, says it supports 'ALL' PCIe-16 video cards;

However, I download the user manual and it says...
What is a good reliable motherboard, for the AMD 4600+?
Not too worried about the cost, but want a fairly stable, high quality mobo. Was thinking of the ASUS A8N-Sli Deluxe, but am also thinking about the A-Bit Fatal1ty AN8 SLI, as it has a cool 'uGuru' controller. But, I'm not planning on...
Is it better to go with the AMD X2 4400+ dual core processor that has a 2.2GHz clock with a 1Mb L2 cache (per core) or the X2 4600+ dual core that has a higher clock frequency of 2.4GHz, but a lower L2 cache (of 512Kb per core)?
Not sure if the extra cache provides more performance, or if a...
Hyperthreading, is pushing two threads through the same core. The processor can't handle both at the same time, but can process parts of the second thread at once. Hence, pushing two threads through a single core hyperthreading chip, takes roughly 1.5 times the length of a single thread.
Dual...
