17th Annual WCG Birthday Challenge by SETI.Germany

I found that boinc clients that I installed just in the last couple days would grab some tasks but certainly not more than a day or two, but clients that I have had installed for quite sometime would grab plenty of work. The I noticed that the estimated time on one older i7 was a couple hours...

    WCG - 16th Birthday Challenge

I'm hoping to have a new build done before the x-mas race starts. I've started my first ITX build in a Node202 case. It will be an additional i7-10700 for the cause as long as I can get a little case airflow going around the CPU. :)

    WCG - 16th Birthday Challenge

Looks like Team USA had a 10M point hour at UTC 16:00 which vaulted them to 4th place.

    WCG - 16th Birthday Challenge

Bunkering is allowed here right? I don't have many cores so I might as well do some work in advance if I can! : )

    WCG THOR Challenge 2020

with regards to bunkering - I have one system (that has only been running a 2-3 weeks) that has a really high time remaining estimate (like 8+ hours per OPN WU). Thus it seems to not pull much of a backlog of work since it thinks its going to take so long per WU. Do I just have to wait until...

    Distributed Computing on Raspberry Pi

I've long thought about getting a Pi to tinker around with but have never done so. Just curious about your expereince with the aforementioned FLIRC pi 4 case. Does it provide enough passive cooling to run all four cores on WCG (or other DC projects) 24/7? As I started to search for Pi4 cases...

    WCG THOR Challenge 2020

Sounds like a cool event. Count me in. In addition to my normal cores, I scraped together an additional 5 cores from my ESXi hosts that probably wouldn't get much use otherwise. Its not much but but I hoping to build a new six or eight core rig before the end of the year so maybe that will be...

15th Annual WCG Birthday Challenge by SETI.Germany

Seems like Team Anandtech must have done a really good job bunkering. Today we are keeping pace with them, but yesterday they had quite the dump! Now that I have a good process down I should be able to get a larger amount of queued up work for the Christmas Challenge.

15th Annual WCG Birthday Challenge by SETI.Germany

I'll fire up a couple hosts for the event. Looks like we have a new WCG project to crunch: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/research/arp1/overview.do

    14th Annual WCG Birthday Challenge

Ha! I have much less free CPU power these days it seems, but I always get the DC fever come this time of year! And it colder outside... I'll be better prepared for the Christmas Challenge.

    14th Annual WCG Birthday Challenge

Having a bit a instability the last couple days with some new RAM, but I think I got it worked out. Adding a couple CPUs to the effort. :)

WCG 13th Annual 2017 Birthday Challenge

Its been a while, and I'm off to a late start, but I'm in for 12 cores or so.

    WCG Christmas Race 2014

Great job everyone! Looks like we are sticking right with France. Even a small increase in production could get us close to second by the end of the Race!! Crunch On!
  17. M

    World Community Grid

Also, we are signed up for the Christmas Race, which runs from 12/4 - 12/24. Looks like we are still ramped up good from the last challenge so keep it rolling! :)

15th!! :( That just wont do. I started a little late as well, and its taking a while to get my points to peak. Come on team! //Added +2 cores

The WCG project is celebrating its 10th birthday. So SETI.Germany has sponsored a brief challenge from Nov 16th to Nov 25th. So tune up your hardware and crunch some WUs to hlep research and the HardOCP WCG team in the challenge! Maybe try out the new Uncovering Genome Mysteries project if...

Need input from both Horde and Commandos regarding future of projects

musky, thanks for sharing your thoughts; the viewpoint is an important one to consider. I hope my previous post didnt make me seem close minded or resistant to change. We have different viewpoints and I don't view either one of them as wrong. Whatever the group decides is best I'll support...

Gil, you know I have a lot of respect for you and all the time/effort you put into the hardforums so please understand the following comments are NOT a personal attack but merely the thoughts of a long time [H] member who see this form go through a never ending cycle of good strong crunching...

    Hi Dookey

Wow, nice. To give another data point my 7870 does the WUs in about 2:15 and 4:30 so the 7970 clearly has way more DP power. Anyone have any Nvidia data points or are they junk for MW? You guys all suck. :D

    Hi Dookey

Looking good! Thanks for joining us. :) How many GPUs does it take one to amass almost 5M PPD in GPUGrid? Edit: I was too late in asking! :D The answer is apparently 27 GPUs!

Wow, great job on primabonica everyone. 870K points today was good enough for top team of the day in that project. Second place was ... 156K. :D Crunch on!

    Formula BOINC

Hmm . . . This seems like it could be fun - never really looked at it much before. Seems like we could maybe make a run at a team or two in Enigma or maybe one in Asteroids. Maybe we could overtake Ukraine with a big push in WCG.

Big props to brilong in WCG. Way to go sir. Thanks for the very impressive contribution to the team and the science. Speaking of WCG - I have been thinking about running some CEP2 but in the past I have heard some speculation/comments about how hard it is on HDD/SSDs. I have plenty of RAM in...

    DC Vault 2

I would agree that some work is needed to keep the DCVault fresh. The competition has gotten somewhat stagnant because of no new additions as well as not removing projects that don't have work. When a project doesn't have regular work its pretty hard for teams to advance in the project...

Eon PSA: Now its been a while since I have ran eon but formerly it performed MUCH better on Linux.
