Looks like another advantage vs the Asus which tftcentral said crushed everything below box 6. Maybe the slight gamma curve dip they showed on this MSI was done on purpose to avoid the crushing. Hope they add a menu in the future to allow selecting alternate gamma curves - 2.2, 2.4, etc.
How is the black crush? When looking at this pattern in a pitch-black room, what's the lowest numbered square you can distinguish when running in SDR?
http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php
Agreed. Test patterns are useless as every TV and monitor manufacturer games them for years.
Even the few English reviewers who claim to measure real scenes never actually show you what those real scenes are (ex. Monitors Unboxed) and/or they pick proprietary scenes that are not available to...
How is the dark gray uniformity on this thing? Is it as poor as every other OLED TV/monitor on the market? Rtings review (link) of the bent version of this panel on the Dell aw3225qf doesn't sound promising:
"However, like any OLED, there are thin gray vertical lines in dark scenes, but you...
Wouldn't surprise me if it just appears randomly on Amazon at any moment the way their QD-OLED TVs did. Samsung Electronics (not the Display panel division) just doesn't appear interested in generating much pre-launch media buzz for these products.
Nice to see you here too. Looking forward to reading your results. You might be the first calibrator to post feedback since HDTVtest will take weeks for a full evaluation.
When you do your "before" measurements, try with different window sizes and different menu brightness settings. One of...
One thing to keep an eye out for...Samsung's older OLED panels used in laptops were very unstable depending on what's on the screen and panel brightness setting. So you could get a perfect calibration with 10% windows, then change the pattern window size or adjust menu brightness setting and...
Oh, in that case gamma would only be available for SDR. Typically in the 2.2 - 2.4 range to properly view that SDR test pattern.
Maybe someone running desktop in SDR mode can check the same pattern? Link.
Awesome. Thanks for checking. Yeah, Samsung's mobile (phone and laptop) OLEDs black smear like crazy on that page and crush the bottom 2-3% of the grayscale to black. LG OLEDs tend to overshoot/flash.
What gamma preset are you running in the monitor menus?
How does this do with the Lagom monitor test page? Especially the black level and contrast test on this page. What's the lowest numbered box you can still see? When you move this page around, do you see black smearing or bright ghosting on the borders of the boxes?
Google search and online reviews didn't turn up anything. Should have searched this forum before posting.
Thanks for the link. At least I now know my unit is not defective. Unfortunately it's happening even with a single monitor attached to the system. I opened a tech support ticket with...
So I recently picked up a Startech DP2VGAHD20 DP->VGA/HDMI adapter. While the VGA and HDMI outputs work fine with a couple monitors I have tried connected to my Nvidia GTX 1070, I'm having some issues with sleep/standby.
Whenever Windows puts the monitor connected to the Startech into...
So you're citing the same burn-in example I did - Samsung AMOLED displays used in phones and tablets. Their design and choice of materials are specifically for low-cost, low-power, low size/weight, high brightness, low-usage-hours. Their requirements force them to make compromises that a...
Can you site some examples of this pervasive OLED burn-in issue? I'm only aware of the one on the AMOLED phones. Those are ~$50 screens with likely inferior materials to those in a $5K monitor. They are also subject to higher brightness requirements to deal with outdoor lighting.
I guess...
My point was that you don't really know it will burn-in easily unless someone has done long-term testing on this specific model. The tech is moving forward all the time I'm sure they must be making some advancements in burn-in prevention if they intend for OLED to replace LCD as the next TV...
If you want to be anal about user manuals, then IPS LCD is also unsuitable for desktop computer monitor usage. Here's a section from HP's IPS monitor user guide:
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03592306.pdf
CAUTION: Burn-in image damage may occur on monitors that display the same...
Thanks. The LM270WQ2-SLA1 looks like a similar 10-bit panel as the one used on the Dell U2711. Probably the same very aggressive AG coating too.
Too bad they covered the scaler with a heatsink so we can't see what they are using.
Can you post the pictures? I'm curious exactly what model number LG panel is inside the AG version of this monitor. Also curious what scaler chipset they are using. Thanks.
Has anyone with multiple drives compared the benchmark results of their drives? I've got 3 of the 5K3000 models and the max transfer rate of the fastest drive is ~144 MB/sec, while the slowest is ~127 MB/sec. Average transfer rates are also lower at 109 MB/sec vs. 97 MB/sec. I used tools such...
While the NEC 2490 text quality is fine, the high-pitched buzzing noise when displaying high-contrast, full-screen text can be very annoying. Hopefully this Dell does not suffer from that problem.
Price is the only thing that matters to 99% of U.S. consumers. That's why the market is saturated by cheap TN panels. Adding IPS or extra connectors would inflate the price. Also don't forget that the dollar is worthless right now so these companies don't make as much money selling their...
Excellent review. The most detailed and informative monitor review I have seen in a long time. NEC should give you a free monitor for going into so much trouble. ;)
After reading your results, I decided to get a 2490 instead of the 3090.
Thanks
That ECO mode definitely makes no sense as explained in the manual:
"Decreases the amount of power consumed by reducing the brightness level."
The amount of power consumed will only change by adjusting the backlight. Adjusting the "blocking" of the panel (or digital brightness) should...
Hmm... well, it's been over 4 years since I've been inside this thing but I belive the controls are on the left side (looking at the front of the screen). In your image "p1230_left.jpg" you can see a small hole on the bottom edge near the back of the monitor. It looks a little different than...
Every CRT monitor is different. Copying settings from someone else's monitor is not going to help you. But if you're really stuck, let me know the specific page/settings you need and I'll copy them from my P1230.
FYI, there are 2 focus knobs inside the monitor on left or right side. Those...
Looks like someone else will have to be the guinea pig for this monitor. My 2 month old backorder at onsale.com finally expired. Since it's not likely to go on sale again for $1500, I will have to wait for some positive reviews before forking over $2000+ on this thing.
Looking forward to...
Interesting discovery about the polarizer. But how do you guys know this is actually a new revision? There are any number of possibilities:
a) DS made an initial small batch using the polarizer in order to get inflated reviews on a new/unknown monitor.
b) The demand for the cheaper panel...
Yes, that's what I was told by an NEC rep. I suggest B&H in NYC. If you're local you can probably check it out in their store. Otherwise, they still have the cheapest mail order price at the moment and very good customer service...
It's heavily backordered here...but they are supposed to ship a limited quantity next week. The bulk of backorders won't ship until late April. So if you really want one soon, place your order ASAP at an authorized dealer.
Delayed to April (maybe longer). I'm guessing that there are yield problems with these new LG panels. Rather than ship garbage like Dell, NEC is probably waiting until the issues are resolved.
If you were happy with response/lag on the 2405, you will have no problems with the 2490. The 2405 was among the worst for both so pretty much anything will be an upgrade. I don't recall exact numbers but lag was over 30ms for sure.
I think those are the resolutions for single-link DVI or VGA input. For dual-link DVI, it supports 2560x1600@60. Just look at the user manual I linked on the last page. It does say "timing signal is not recommended" next to that mode but who knows what that really means. Right above it is a...
My guess is that they are trying to remove the black bars at top/bottom when viewing 16:9 content on every other widescreen computer LCD (16:10). You'll be able to watch HDTV, Xbox, PS3, whatever with no letterbox bars at all.
My status has not changed from "backordered" since early February. They have not charged me anything and I can't expect anything from them until NEC actually releases this monitor sometime in March.
There is some additional information/user-manual on the Japanese site...
Well, I was skeptical when I first posted this deal and was expecting them to cancel. But so far my order status is still "Back Ordered". The problem is that they legally can't hold any order for longer than 30 days. So if these monitors don't end up shipping by March 15, then they will all...
