I agree, when he says "Oh fuckballs" that is really bad. I was in a similar situation to this a while back. I HAD to re-signature some of my files due to a SAN upgrade. And one of them had a Snapshot in place......
1 full day and a lot of sweat later I finally rebuilt the VM. This may not help...
I have a Cisco ASA 5510 firewall that is a working pull from a site we decommissioned. I don't know what license level it has, but below is a copy of its Show Config:

I've used Active @ Undelete to great success to recover a local business' Quickbooks database. What I loved about it was that it can do a raw block copy to a local disk, then you can start trying to do the recovery from the copy. That way you don't get to sweat about trying some of the more...
Ours came on USB keys to allow them to connect direct to MB headers. Since then though they have made it possible to install it to anything just about.
We got it through a reseller. I think it might have been buystorage.com. Open-e has had issues no doubt. But we did not have anywhere near the budget to get even an entry level SAN from any of the big boys. Believe me, we got the quotes to prove it. For an on the cheap roll your own but still...
We use Open-e and their DSS product. The cost is REALLY low and in my opinion it is a far more mature product than OpenFiler. They have good support and 24/7 support for reasonable prices. Highly recommended!

I agree with Nitrobass. Experience is the best, but you have to get in the door to get it first! That's why I suggested the base level certificates. They get you in the door easier for exactly the reason he said. Most people doing the HR work don't know dick about what they are looking for. They...
Personally I would focus on general certs first. Knock out the Trinity from Comptia. A+, Network+, and Security+. In that order. They don't cost a lot and round out your education well. After the Security+ you might want to try some of the SANS courses. Like the GSEC. I hold the 4 mentioned...
We are using thin clients from a company called Devon IT.

Nice Linux based terminals that are fairly easy to admin and can connect to almost anything. I have used both Wyse and HP in the past. HP is okay, but I agree that Wyse is a good standard. If you call Devon IT...
We use USB Disabler. Full site license only costs $200 and it's AD Integrated! Not as robust as GFI, but a heck of a lot cheaper!

Where did you buy your vouchers from? I get mine from this site:

Never had a problem with them and they have the best prices I've found.
I'm a network admin and only just got my A+. But I got in with my first job by my adviser in college. Then I got my BS in Information Systems. That led to this job. I only just got my A+, Network+, Security+, and GSEC. I had a period where I was out of my first job desperately trying to find a...
I have had it work for a laptop HDD I had to resurrect at work once. Like they said above, it will work, but only for certain problems. But for those problems you can usually squeeze out 5-10 minutes. Sucks that it didn't work for ya though :(
Yeah we have an i system where I work, and like he said, you are SOL. You can just try and get one on the cheap. Suxs that they have not embraced virtualization like others have :(.
Viva la TechNet! It will do WONDERS for letting you test things out without having to worry about getting keys or a trial running out while you are still testing.
Openfiler is free and works pretty good for iSCSI use. But personally I've had better luck with Open-E. The software is not that expensive, and it works REALLY well. Plus its updated often. However, for the price *IE Free* you can't beat Openfiler.
One product that uses the engine from Vipre is Shavlik. Google it if you want. Its what we use for patch management at the company I work at. From what I've heard its worked pretty good for them.
Does RAID Level 1+0 need Volume Checking? I have the option in the Areca card that has a 12 TB 1+0 array. But since Volume Checking is needed to my knowledge only for Parity checking, and 1+0 has no parity that I know of, isn't the option completely not applicable?
Ahhhhhhh! TEH HORROR! I've had to do a DC restore and had NO clue of the nightmare I was walking into. I've had to do a DSN Rollback and it was a freaking NIGHTMARE. That's the only issue I've had with virtual DC's. Restoring from backup can be a VERY touchy issue!
We were looking at OpenFiler for our SAN but I'd recommend Open-E. It's cheaper than OpenFiler and IMO it is a lot more polished for an enterprise product. And if memory serves me it is a LOT cheaper per license. Also, I've been playing with XenServer from Citrix and I was having a devil of a...
We use this at work for a Virtual Iron solution to pass a HASP key. It works very well and I had it up and running in under 10 minutes. Very nice :). About $150 per USB device I believe.
I recently helped the company I work for develop an iSCSI host server. We tried Openfiler first, and while it's good for general use, I wouldn't want it as the backend for a business. I also tried the Opensolaris setup, but that was difficult to work with for us. For simplicity and good support...
