Tweaking Skyrim Image Quality @ [H]

I think I just solved my problem. I had to delete the skyrim.ini file that was in my Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\Data folder. For some reason it was also causing my menu screen to have a reddish tint. After removing that, my reddish tint is gone, and my old saves with ugridstoload 7 work...

Tweaking Skyrim Image Quality @ [H]

Gaaaah, I've been playing skyrim for the past week using uGridsToLoad=7. I decided to try switching back to uGridsToLoad=5, so first I zipped up my skyrim folder (just in case something goes wrong) and followed the steps that the guides suggest. However, something seems to have been buggered...

Need more RAM! Can I mix Corsair Dominator + Vengeance?

Yikes! That would be very unfortunate if I have to throw these sticks away. So even if I buy the exact same kit I may run into compatibility problems!?!?

Need more RAM! Can I mix Corsair Dominator + Vengeance?

The thing is, I doubt I'll need more than 8GB of RAM. Wouldn't I just be better off running 8 GB of either type at 1600Mhz than running at 1033Mhz with 12GB?

Need more RAM! Can I mix Corsair Dominator + Vengeance?

Hi everyone, About 6 months ago I spontaneously decided to build myself a new gaming rig. At the time, I suspected that 4GB of RAM would be sufficient, but alas, I am now playing battlfield 3. I've kept my eye on the memory useage and noticed that it usually chews up to 1.8GB of available...

    Need a gaming laptop - Gateway p7901h

Hey guys, I'm in the market for a new laptop as I'm going to be away from my PC for 6 months or more. Portability isn't really an issue, it will likely remain in one place the entire time, so 17" is probably a good size. I'll mostly use it for web surfing, email, gaming, and maybe a little...

    Beware.. Dell 2408wfp.. Rubbish

What input are you using for the two monitors? I have a dual monitor configuration with two of the same LCD displays and one is connected via DVI, the other through VGA. The colors come across far worse on the monitor connected via VGA, and I am unable to calibrate them to be the same.

Does upscaling smooths out the jaggies in a game?

I don't think there is ever a situation where upscaling actually improves the quality of the image compared to running at the native resolution. Antialiasing is actually doing more than "blurring the edges", it is actually rendering more information to the screen than the available pixels...

    Why are LCD's so Bright?

The other bonus of LCD's insane brightness is that you can use them in a brightly lit room and still be able to easily make out the image. With my CRT I would always have to close the blinds and turn out the lights. With my LCD I can keep it open and let the sun shine in.

Higher resolution monitors = Crappier standard videos?

My workaround is I just sit farther back from the screen :P

    Switching to LCD

In all honesty, if you're a competetive FPS gamer that plays at those types of settings you do not want to game on an LCD. Any modern LCD will look fugly at 800x600. You'll have massive screen tearing (compared to your CRT) due to the 60Hz (or possibly 75Hz?) refresh rate. There will...

A question on dynamic contrast ratio

Does increasing the brightness really increased the percieved contrast ratio? Logic tells me that increasing the brightness of a display has no effect on the contrast ratio. A certain percentage of light photons get past the black pixels regardless of how bright light is. If you turn up...

    1920 x 1200 and jaggies

Jagginess really is in the eye of the beholder. Some people could care less, some people are much more picky. If the jaggies are bothering you, just turn up the AA until you are content :)

    120hz monitors?

Every time I sit down at my bro's computer with his CRT running at 85Hz I'm blown away by the smoothness and responsiveness of his mouse. Not only that, but he can play games on his PC with VSync turned off and the tearing is hardly noticeable at all. To me, the 60Hz limitation of...

What advantages does 1:1 pixel mapping give you?

I can't imagine trying to play 480p or 720p games on a 1920x1200 monitor with 1:1 pixel mapping, the image is way too tiny. I can see the benefit in the case of a 1080i/p source, where black bars on the top and bottom are acceptable.... but I consider it useless for anything of a lower...

Why don't they make higher resolution desktop monitors?

If windows rendered the screen in a way that was fully scalable it would be great. I'm all for shrinking pxels to the point where you can't even see them anymore... but the way Windows works now everything just gets too small to see. I know you can enlarge fonts, but other aspects of the...

    GRID (360)

I'm also curious about how good this is with the XBox steering wheel. I'm even more interested to know how well this game would work on PC using the XBox Steering Wheel and the adapter thingy that lets you hook up the steering wheel to a PC. Would I lose out on force feedback? What's...

    Mario Kart Wii

I'm suprised by all the negativity towards mario kart wii. I'll admit, I actually enjoyed double dash more than this one, I'm still having a blast playing online. It's really quite competetive and not as random as some people make it out to be. An expert player will be able to come 1st...

    Mario Kart Wii

I really don't understand all the hate for Double Dash. I'm a long time Mario Kart fan. I've played every one in the series, and for the past few years Double Dash has been my favorite. I'm not sure yet if Mario Kart Wii is better than DD. I miss the strategy of having two items at once...

Benefits of High Resolution vs Anti-Aliasing

The nice thing about running lower resolutions with AA enabled is you end up an image quality that is closer to being "flawless". At high resolutions you do get the overall resolution, but if you look closely at the image you will still notice jaggies. At lower resolutions with AA enabled...

    Did I fry my RAM?

Just curious, how come it took 4 RMA's before you realized the voltage was killing it? And I still don't quite understand why both RAM chips would die at the same moment in time after running at 2.5V for many days without problems. Is there some sort of cascading effect that kills them off...

    Did I fry my RAM?

Externally the RAM looks (and even smells) perfectly fine. And that still doesn't explain why both chips fried at once.

    Did I fry my RAM?

So I was idling in MIRC when suddenly out the corner of my eye I saw the blue screen of death pop up on my PC. I'm running Windows Vista and it looked like it was doing some sort of memory dump. It rebooted my computer and the instant windows tried to load, it would blue screen for a split...

    Huge price difference in plasmas?

So now that we've agreed that the 42" Kuro is indeed 1024x768... can anyone explain the reason that the Panasonic plasma at 1920x1200 is much cheaper than the 1024x768 Kuro? I mean, the difference is significant. We're talking 2.073 million pixels versus 0.786 million pixels. The Kuro has 38%...

    Huge price difference in plasmas?

I've been shopping around a little bit for a new plasma TV to replace my aging CRT HDTV. One thing that I've discovered after gaming on an LCD for a few years is that I really do value black levels in my displays. I'm reluctant to replace my CRT HDTV seeing as how it has such incredible...

    Hrm, so WoW?

I just thought i'd mention how cool it is that Total Annihilation was your first PC game. That game is AWSOME, and I have very fond memories of it too. If you want something similar, just updated with today's technology, I suggest you check out the Supreme Commander games. The expansion...

    I got a Dell 2407WFPb for $150 - AVI Movies Pixelized

I suggest sitting farther away from the screen. How often do you sit 1 foot away from your HDTV to watch movies? You don't... and if you did, you'd probably notice worse quality. Just sit farther back and it will look fine :)

    Canadian Pricing on 8800 GT

I've been holding out to buy a new computer for a few years now, and now that the 8800 GT is out, I think the time is right. I'm planning on buying from TigerDirect.ca (I can get a discount through work). I just fired up TigerDirect.ca and the first 8800GT card is listed at $341.99...

Halo 3 actually runs 640p no matter what.

Can someone clarify what is going on here? Are there any 360 games that actually do run at 1080p resolution? And does HDMI provide any real world improvement over what you can get with Component or VGA???

I cannot believe what just happed...(pics)

Nice, that's awsome that they replaced it for you. I really don't see how anything other than an impact with the screen could cause that much damage. Are you sure none of your friends accidently hit it or something while you weren't in the room or something?

    30 vs 60 fps videos

Well, think of an oscilloscope. It uses the same cathode ray tube to draw an image to the screen as your TV, but it approaches it a bit differently. Your TV needs to draw the entire image, and it takes time for the beam to pass over the entire TV. However, an oscilloscope can present...

    30 vs 60 fps videos

The whole topic is alot more complex than people realize. (Yes I realize the guy above me just said the exact same thing :D ) There is a big difference in what the user can percieve depending on the type of image being displayed. For instance, if the user is staring at the center of the...

    Worth upgrading from Athlon64 to Athlon64 X2?

Another issue I face is that my current motherboard is AGP. So upgrading the video card might not be a good idea. I still think my best option now is to wait a few months for prices to come down, and then replace the entire rig.

    Worth upgrading from Athlon64 to Athlon64 X2?

I've been trying to play Supreme Commander on my system, but its really chopping up pretty bad, and I'm thinking I might need a dual core processor to run it at a decent speed. I would like your opinions on whether or not this upgrade is worth while. Current specs: Motherboard: Asus A8V...
