I wanted to play TF2 so bad, but I wasn't going to pay $50 for it. After about three months of OG being out, Best Buy had a Sunday ad for half off.
BONK!
I purchased a 3200 XP Barton on ebay of unknown functionality (as-is), and after spending an hour straightening pins, I was able to get it into the socket and power it up, but it doesn't post. Everything powers up, but the computer keeps rebooting.
Everything works when I put my old 2500 xp in...
On a related note:
I once started my computer without plugging in the fan on my processor heatsink.
It's was an Athlon 2500+. It booted windows and then shut down. Plugged in the the molex connector, and it booted up just fine.
I was flabbergasted.
In BIOS, my cpu is 70c and system is 23c. I have moved my computer several times since I last ran it, so maybe the heatsink has come loose.
HOWEVER, when I run CS 1.6, the computer doesn't shut down under that load.
edit: my computer makes electrical scratching noises when off
I'm trying to install XP on my 2000 system. Here's the problem: when the initial loading takes place, and the first screen [install XP, repair XP, etc] the system speaker makes the same noise it makes whenever there is a thermal shutdown.
I have a gigbyte 7vt600 1394 motherboard, XP 2500+...
My network has 4 computers that do a lot of web surfing, fps gaming, and torrent activity.
I use insightBB, a 3com cable modem, and a Linksys Etherfast router/switch..
The internet performance isn't too great, and I'm wondering if it is the modem, the router, or maybe we just need more...
