Here's my situation: I have a 4K monitor that I got mainly for work. I don't play games nearly as often as I used to, but every now and then I still find time to enjoy it. My GPU (Radeon 7970) is getting long in the tooth, and clearly can't power most modern games at 4K (though it seems to do OK...
My 5870 is bugging out, need to send it for service. I was wondering for people who have used XFX's warranty, how long did it take you to receive a replacement card?
Just got a Rosewill RK-9000, which as I understand it, is a Filco Majestouch clone. I'm noticing something strange. When the key "x" and "n" and both depressed, it produces the letter "m". I confirmed this on Optimus' N-key rollerover test:

I'm at a point where I may need to get a new PSU. A Seasonic S12 Energy Plus 550W would suit my needs fine, although I'm also looking at PCP&C's Silencer 610W (smallest one in the Silencer series). The Seasonic is $130, and the PCP&C is $175. My question is, is it worth the (big chunk of) extra...
Got my Opty 165 a few days ago and overclocked to 2.7Ghz @ 1.35V (stock voltage). Orthos 8+ hrs stable plus several 6+ hrs Guild Wars sessions with no problems. Well, this morning I woke up, and found the computer locked up. No big deal, just a fluke I thought. I restarted, it didn't even finish...
So much for everyone else getting CCBBE's lately, I got a LCB9E 0646, which is a stepping I've NEVER even heard of  A quick Google didn't reveal much other than the few souls with this stepping who did get good OC results. I suppose we will find out soon. Anyone has any info on this stepping?
Seeing that S939 processors aren't being made anymore, should I snatch up a dual core (say Opteron 165) right now before they go out of existence or go way up in price? I JUST got a PCI-E S939 board so I neither have the spare cash nor the desire to go AM2 or C2D.
Regardless of whether I...
Has anyone found a stable and surefire way to overclock an X1950 Pro yet? I see a lot of threads floating around the web with everyone having the same problem. Whether using RivaTuner, WinClk, ATITool, or ATI Tray Tools, chaning the core or mem just slightly causes the screen to go completely...
My 40GB primary HD (EIDE) is failing, so I got a 160GB (SATA) to replace it. I wanted to keep all of my settings so I don't want to do a refresh install.
I used a free partition cloning software (drvclonerxp) to clone the boot partition to my new HD. I then went into WinXP recovery console...
Lately I've been experiencing some random video card crashes (http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1126672). I looked at my mobo's monitoring software and it reports the 12V rail is at 11V. I thought that would be the issue, except when I used a digital multimeter and measured the 12V rail...
My video card is starting to act up in the last few days. It would randomly show a garbled screen full of artifacts. At first I thought maybe it's overheating, but temperature monitor shows mid 30C. So just to be safe I clocked it back down to stock speeds. It still does it. Normally I would say...
I recently attended a presentation on the Cell BE by IBM's Chief Scientist of the Cell project. I took pics and such, but which section of the forum post it in?
I've been overclocking and doing stability testing on my video card for the last few days. First thing I did was I let ATI Tray Tools (ATT) find my max GPU/MEM speeds, and that seems to be a good starting point. I was able to loop 3DMark05 and 3DMark03 five times each, run FEAR for about an hour...
ATI Tray Tool has the option to "Write events to log file" under its Artifact Tester, but I can't find where the log file is being saved to, anyone has any ideas?
Just swapped out a Zalman CNPS7000-AlCu to an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro, wanted to report the results. My board's temperature sensor readings are always a bit wonky, so the absolute temperature is probably not right, but we can look at the relative tempeature changes:
Zalman...
Hello fellow [H]Fers,
I recently purchased an ATI X850 Pro AGP off of ebay, installed a Zalman VF700 on it and threw it in the case. Unfortunately this one could not be unlocked to 16 pipelines, so I just did some overclocking on it, and load temperatures were good. However when I loop...
Well, I just picked up a Opteron 146 (2.0Ghz) on a whim (being shipped right now), and I'm having second thoughts. I have a A64 3000+(1.8Ghz) that I've been running at 3800+ speed (2.4Ghz) for almost a year. Should I just return the Opteron and keep my A64? Please clarify your choice. Thanks! :)
My system specs are in my sig. I want to be able to play Oblivion. I can either
1) Get a 7800GS and hold out for M2 (12-16 mo)
2) Get a 7800GT, new mobo, and possibly a new PSU (mine is a 20pin 420W Enlight), and wait longer for M2 (16+ mo)
Please discuss :)
Does 9600XT have no WMV HD acceleration? I can play 720p smoothly, but CPU utlization remains at 50-70%. 1080p is VERY choppy. "WMV acceleration" is enabled in control panel. Can somebody confirm wehter 9600XT can accelerate WMV HD?
My setup is in my sig, in addition, my PSU is an Enlight 420W. So the story is, I have long declared my system rock solid, having done extensive amount of Prime95 and other stability tests. However, I never did any extensive testing in games since I no longer really have much time for games. So...
I was reading the instructions for applying AS5 for an A64, are you not supposed to put any AS5 on the heatsink and only put a small blob on the center of the heatspreader?
I have an A3000+ Winnie, I get different CPU load temperatures running Prime95 (small FFT), Hot CPU Tester, and DScaler (TV Tuner program), all of which uses 100% CPU utilization. However I get the highest temperature out of Prime95, then lower temperature in Hot CPU Tester, and even lower in...
I posted this under OC section, but thought I might have better luck here:
Just upgraded an Athlon XP 1700+ to a Winnine 3000+, and I'm having a weird problem. Whenever I do anything graphical, i.e. games, video, or even web sites with alot of pictures, the monitor loses signal from the vid...
Just upgraded an Athlon XP 1700+ to a Winnine 3000+, and I'm having a weird problem. Whenever I do anything graphical, i.e. games, video, or even web sites with alot of pictures, the monitor loses signal from the vid card and goes blank. I would then have to restart. A couple of times, VPU...
Got a 3000+ Winnie @ 2.4Ghz, 1.55v. Case temperature is about 24C, CPU idle temp is around 35C, under full load it goes up to 60C. Does that seem a bit too high? I have a Zalman 7000B AlCu, used some old AS3 I had laying around.
Which would yield better performance for an A64 system? Higher bandwidth but looser timing (say [email protected]), or tight timing but lower bandwidth (say 200Mhz@2-2-2-5). Assuming that the multiplier and memory divider are adjusted so that the processor runs at the same frequency for either...
