Had a few over the years:

K6-2 350
K6-2 450
K6-2 550
Athlon Thunderbird 800
Athlon XP 2500
Athlon XP 3200
Athlon64 3500
Athlon64x2 4400+ Windsor
AMD Neo N36L (HP Mircroserver)
A8 3500-M (laptop)
The x2 lasted an awfully long time and was probably the biggest jump that I...
Did someone mention BP6? :) I had a clear out last year of my old hardware and the only survivors were my BP6 and enough bits to make a complete machine (CM200 case, 9800Pro etc). I use it as a retro rig for old games and the like:
I also managed to snap up another one on...
Decided to buy another of these whilst there is still a £100 rebate available. Installed a Radeon 5450 and so far linux/XBMC has coped with everything I've thrown at it.
Also added to my first microserver by fitting two 2TB drives in the optical drive bay:
The second drive is connected via...
Just checked mine and got similar readings:
Powered off: 17W, Running (idle): 36W, Running (file transfer): up to 45W
Thats with Ubuntu 10.10 and 5x2TB WD Green Drives.
Not sure whats causing the "high" powered off reading, will have to do some more digging.
Just got mine setup using the supplied 250GB drive for the OS (in the 5.25 bay) and two RAID 1 arrays using a pair of WD 2TB drives and two old 500GB Samsungs. Also upgraded the RAM to 8GB.
Really just having a play with it at the moment before I get some more 2TB drives and, more than...
Recently rebuilt my X2 4400+ with 2GB RAM, 8800GTS (640MB) , EVGA mATX SLI motherboard to act as a linux box.
Its surprising, bar the graphics card, I bought the rest of the hardware around four years ago and Ubuntu absolutely flies on it. The GPU accelerated extras from Compiz are just...
Assuming the pump fails then as long as you have some sort of "shutdown when CPU temp reaches x" option set in the BIOS then you should be fine.
Compared to a car, PC rads are in environmental heaven, e.g. not moving about and in a fairly reasonable climate.
All of this assumes that there...
Left4Dead has issues with the latest Nvidia drivers and some older Nvidia cards. I was getting lots of stuttering with my 8800GTS 640MB. Rolled back to the 178.xx and all was fine.
If I were you I'd uninstall the current Nvidia drivers, reinstall an older pre 180.xx version and then enable...
Still running an Abit Nforce 4 Ultra motherboard in my main machine and its been solid for a good few years now (and will continue to unless I ever get around to upgrading it).
However, I'll always remember them for making the dual celeron socket BP6, now that was a damn fine enthusiasts...
Time to go back to basics here me thinks...........
First of all, post a full list of your hardware and pictures of it in its current state, including how your applying the thermal compound.
Software: check for any BIOS updates for your motherboard.
Get the main components out of the case...
I'd recommend you get a bigger monitor :). Trust me, your rig is fine at the moment, may just need a windows reinstall and a quick defrag as it shouldnt have any problems at that res.
Ignore the 8800 then. Yes, its new its shiny and will play DX10 games (when they come out and if you have Vista ;) ) but if your only playing CS:S then you really dont need it.
Upgrade your RAM to 2GB, prices are cheap at the moment and you'll see the biggest improvement. A 7900 or 7950GT...
Installed Vista on mine and it was ok bar the audio drivers. The standard ones are reported by Vista "to be slowing the system down". However, the newer drivers from the Realtek website have some issues with the control panel and crashing, bit of a catch 22 situation :(.
Shame that it will come out years after its announced and cost three times as much as it should.
Remember, its Via we're talking about ;).
Still waiting for a decent Nano-ITX board.
I'd be more tempted to change to a UK PSU. Your current PSU may be able to run at 220v 50Hz, most modern power supplies sold here in the UK autoswitch between 220v and 110v when required (much better than the old style manual 110-220 selector switch on the back that always gets put in the wrong...
The ICE is rather simple to uninstall. Simply unscrew the fan shrowd from the back and life it off. Then turn each of the screws, attaching the ICE to the motherboard, one or two turns at a time. This will make sure that there is no uneven pressure on the CPU when removing the ICE. To...
Tbh I would have went for two 7900GT's or two 7900GTX's but with DX10 cards just around the corner I decided to save a bit of cash, they'll be getting changed soon enough ;).
Well I finally built an X-Qpack. Its still a work in progress as it needs a lot of internal tidying, more RAM, two SATA HD's, two DX10 graphics cards when they get released........but at the moment it works, plays FEAR quite nicely and is also rather quiet.
Also wanted an SLI machine to play...
