Thanks stewartjm, I'll be ordering those supermicros, and I'll be sure to check for those mounting holes on my tray.
Can't wait for my new RAID card and SSDs... :D
My apologies for reviving a dead thread, but I'm facing a dilema identical to stewartjm's.
When you say "No significant scraping or scary force", how much scraping and or force are we talking? Also, did you ever happen to order more of the Supermicro screws / laptop ones?
I realize that...
Hi everyone.
Let me start out by saying that I'm new here, and if I didn't put this in the right section, I apologize in advance. I posted in motherboards because I think the problem may lay in my motherboard, but I wanted to get some other opinions as to whether I'm diagnosing the problem...
Sure. It's mostly music / recording stuff.

I just finished modding the case two days ago.

Damn dude, I wouldn't mind showing it to you (I already got made fun of this much - more wouldn't matter much, right?) but I already threw it away.
If you're still curious, just imagine a regular heatsink that has six open copper pipes sticking out at the top instead of a nice plastic/metal...
Hey guys,
I have two G.Skill Ripjaws.
My first upgrade was to a LGA775 board with DDR3 support, which had 4 DDR3 slots (2 per channel), which is why I originally bought the Ripjaws.
I soon returned the motherboard though, because, for various reasons I ended up getting the i7 920 and a...
Thanks guys. I may not want to shell out the extra cash for a new case. Someone did say I was in the relatively safe zone as long as I don't overclock.
Anyway, thanks again for all your help!
Same with exhaust fans; not really any place to put them without a hack.
I could put on entrance fans with zip-ties, I think. I'm really screwed for exhaust fans though. :(
Hi guys,
I'm not OC-ing at all. Everything at stock.
"How did I mount my heatsink?" I don't really know what your question is.
I really just followed the instructions this time. I used Arctic Alumina as the thermal compound.
For "case/ventilation"...
The case I'm using is a Lian Li PC-C32A...
Hey guys!
:) I know you've been bashing me for being dumb about cutting heat pipes, and yes, it was pretty stupid.
But I took your advice, got a new heatsink (CNPS10x Flex), and my idle temps are now at 48±2 ºC.
This definitely makes me feel much safer, but, is it still too high? I have...
Hi all,
I have two 120mm Nexus PWM fans, both on the CPU heatsink. (Push-pull wind tunnel kinda configuration.)
Right now. one fan is connected to the CPU fan socket, and the other is connected to the "SYS-FAN" fan socket. Both are PWM. I don't like the fact that one fan will slow down if...
I used 3M double sided tape (not 4010, but some industrial strength one (?)... Didn't have'em at Home Depot) to attach both fans to my heatsink. My heatsink stands vertically from the floor. Both fans hold up well.
tl;dr Use industrial strength 3M double sided tape and cut triangles with it.
Hi all, I'm new to this forum.
Here's my system set up. It's less than 6 months old, though I don't remember exactly how old it is.
