Nice tests, So is it just a myth that AMD processors need higher frequency memory? Doesn't seem to be a night/day difference from the fastest to slowest memory!
So all these new laptops seem to be all in one machines, no easy access to the RAM, HDD.
I've looked at the bottom seems like tons of screws now to get to anything.. Is it still possible to open it up and swap the HD from these?
Any word on Acer's or Asus's accessibility to these components...
I am 99.9% sure, the "home edition" has this locked out ever since the Anniversary Update 1607. Unless someone can prove otherwise. (From a fresh install - not updating prior to 1607 - I believe if you had it disabled prior to the anniversary update it still will be disabled)
I ended up...
Thanks, for confirming that, there must be something else causing it to turn on in the Home edition then, perhaps something in the \Run Registry keys or perhaps if it determines it's the home edition it ignores that setting. I'll keep trying :)
Thanks Kyle, that was the exact command I had prior to this new Windows which worked perfectly, however it has no effect on this new Windows! Much appreciated though.
I wonder if GotNoRice could share whats in that same registry path after changing it through Group Policy...
Thanks for the replies!
I don't want any antivirus because the small mini atom computer I am using has limited resources and it is not on the internet or any network so I like to push every last bit of processing power :)
Yes this home version is limited, it's what came with the mini computer...
With the anniversary update 1607 there does not seem to be any way to disable windows defender. I am using the Home edition and tried the previous registry "DisableAntiSpyware" keys that used to work. It no longer works.
Also any attempts to change the key in the Services for "WinDefend" not...
It's sneaking it's way into my computers without me installing it, and now being used randomly. Very strange.
Ok there was some entry in my registry "run" key that was launching it on boot which was the annoying factor.
I've now deleted all "Chromium" registry keys, and manually removed the...
Ok this KB3194496 has been trying to restart my computer for the last week or so.. I googled some references to attempt to fix it yet nothing seems to work. Apparently many people have this issue.
On reboot it reports it's failed to install..
I tried one registry removal XMBsave or whatever...
What is this Chromium crap? It's everywhere and I can't even uninstall it... Where is it coming from?
I am about to do the manual file deletion and manual registry removal...
Unplug all USB devices, etc, I had the strangest experience, I had to 'reset my pc' and when it went to rebuild itself it hung at a black screen with a spinning logo. Removing the Logitech wifi adapter solved it. Can't believe that brought it to its knees lol... Anyway it's all good now.
That's good to know about the Win 10 key, I have not had to try such a re-install yet luckily.
I guess I am old school back in the day if your motherboard fried and you decided to re-install everything you would use your key and it would work, If now you have a similar problem and put in a new...
So if you are on Win 7 and upgrade to Win10, after the free upgrade expires and you have to re-install, you will be forced to install Windows 7 without any upgrade option I bet.
So the best idea would be is to backup Windows 10 and create a rescue usb key.
We don't use GPO, as we have a Linux Samba network for our file sharing.
This is quite ridiculous it happened again tonight, even though we walked through the entire plant and disabled that feature, we may have missed a computer and now off hours it's completely taken over our outband bandwidth...
So our internet at work today was at a crawl, and surprisingly I traced it to one PC which appeared to have a virus but more digging revealed it was the Windows Update system uploading to external IP's outside the network.
Apparently windows 10 by default allows the PC's to act as torrents...
I'm not sure when this yearly upgrade thing took everything by storm. I agree you used to have software for years now if you are using "Product 2014" You sound as if you are so dated.
We've noticed that with Revit about the backyard compatibility, we are having a hard time convincing Autocad...
Well if you missed it you can no longer buy Autocad anymore... It's now totally subscription based. Our company bought a couple more perpetual licenses last week as a precaution.
Not sure how long it will last this way, I assume the subscription fees will just get lower over time if it's not...
This reminds me of exactly what happened with the Windows XP auto updater back when it was being phased out. That one was worse where it would use 99% of your CPU during the check making those already slow XP machines come to a crawl.
Anyway I just wanted to say yes the KB3102810 update solved...
Yes it's a great tool, I just find so many more issues many of which seem fairly critical on many different windows 8 machines I've been analyzing. Some sound as if the computer has serious issues, but everything wroks fine. Just odd almost all the windows 8 ones have much more strange event...
I must say the amount of crap one finds when looking through a Windows 8.1 Event viewer is awesome. Never ceases to amaze me the wonders of this magical place. It's like looking into outer space and finding new wonders.
It has to be random honestly, luck of draw, temperatures, physical impacts, planet alignments.
Had an enterprise seagate cheetah 15.6K RPM (SAS) Drive go bad just after 1 year use. In a RAID 5 environment but no harm done. Seagates RMA process was fantastic got a new drive in like 1 day here...
I am more curious what will windows 9 will offer other than the return of the start bar. Are we back in '95? Otherwise I can continue happy on my way with Windows7.
