My laptop runs an AMD GPU with a HDMI output. I just built a PC for my GF with an nVidia GTS 450, also with an HDMI output. Both machines are running up-to-date software.
For the past year, I have been using my laptop as an occasional HTPC by connecting it via HDMI to my 50" Panasonic plasma...
I recently bought a EVGA GTS 450 and have a small problem. See the pic below:
My problems is that the HDMI cables I've tried won't fit into the socket (pictured in red). the space in that corner next to the case bracket is simply too tight. If you look at most HDMI cables, they have quite...
As I wrote, it happens to all four brand new drives. And only certain copying procedures when large amounts of files are being transferred as part of one large directory.
Specs:
FreeNAS 8.0.2
RAIDZ2 + 4K
Mobo: ASUS M4A88T-M LE (NB: AMD 880G, SB: AMD SB710)
RAM: Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) ECC Unbuffered Server Memory
HDD: 4x SAMSUNG EcoGreen 1TB
I can duplicate the errors every time I try to copy a 16GB directory over...
Yep, just tried. No go.
I created a different account, used a different card, and a different name at the same shipping address. But alas the same billing address for both cards did me in. The second order was canceled. I have to wait 48 hours.
The drive I want is in stock, selling for $150 (about 3x what it cost 8 weeks ago).
I need 4 of them.
NE is limiting to 1 per customer. What does this mean? 1 HD per customer per order or what? What is stopping me from ordering the drive 4 times in 4 different orders?
Would you all buy...
Just from what I have read, Z2 seems to provide an optimal mix of speed and redundancy.
This is for a home server. Nothing terrible fancy. I am currently running a RAID 1 system with 2x 500GB drives with 100GB left in free space. Z2 will give me nearly 4x server space but a lot more redundancy.
Any foreseeable problems with the following hardware?
AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.0Ghz CPU
ASUS M4A88T-M Mobo w/ onboard ATI Radeon HD 4250
Silverstone Strider 500W PS
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1333 ECC Memory
Intel EXPI9301CT NIC
4x Samsung EcoGreen F2 1TB 5400 RPM
Thanks for the comments and...
Crap.
I have had the parts for a FreeNAS ZFS build in my NewEgg wishlist for months, including 4x 2TB Samsung drives. I meant to order this system right before Thanksgiving, after returning from a 3-week-long business trip in Europe (where I am currently). I logged into NE yesterday and almost...
I will be doing some computer upgrades for my father soon. While his mobo has built-in RAID capabilities, I am wondering if I should simply use the Win7 RAID option? He does not game or anything. The most taxing thing he does is use Google Earth. Otherwise, it's just email and surfing. The...
One of the procs in question would be mated to an ASUS M4A88T-M LE AM3 AMD 880G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard.
This board supports DDR3 1866(O.C.)/1333/1066 ECC,Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory (AMD AM3 100 and 200 series CPU support up to DDR3 1066MHz.)
It would be for a home-based RAIDz2 ZFS...
Do either of these CPUs support unbuffered ECC RAM?
If they both do, which would be best suited for a ZFS-based NAS?
AMD Athlon II X4 640 Propus
AMD Phenom II X2 560 Black Edition Callisto
Then there is the other option of using my old Opteron 170 and ASUS A8N-SLI Premium board. Does it accept un-registered ECC RAM? Would the price tag be worth it?
Otherwise, I would still need to buy the HDDs and perhaps a new Intel NIC.
I just wonder why someone earlier boo-hooed the...
So once again what is wrong with this proposed build?
Mobo: ASUS M4A88T-M LE AM3 AMD 880G HDMI Micro ATX (ECC Support)
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 945 Deneb 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core (ECC Support)
Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) ECC Unbuffered Server Memory...
I have a case. It's a large ATX case. The PSU could probably use an upgrade. My original thought was to upgrade CPU, mobo, RAM, and HDDs BUT I do have some spare parts: AMD Opteron 170 and an ASUS A8N Premium board. I do NOT have ECC RAM. DDR3 ECC RAM is much cheaper than DDR1 ECC RAM according...
Well, I am comfortable with FreenNAS. And the file server does need to serve 3 home PCs. My current server needs an upgrade. (Currently running 2x 500GBs in RAID 1.)
If ZFS is "easy" to configure in FreeNAS then why not experiment with what appears to be a better file system? I just need...
I would need to focus on mobo/cpu, RAM, NIC, and HDDs. I assume onboard video would suffice.
2TB is the minimum available storage capacity I need at this time.
I think I have made my mind up again, thanks to the input here.
What I want to do now is build a FreeNAS/ZFS/NFS system on the following hardware:
Mobo: ASUS M4A88T-M LE AM3 AMD 880G HDMI Micro ATX (ECC Support)
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 945 Deneb 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core (ECC Support)...
Okay, so I just conducted my own photo test :)
Perhaps 10e will approve?
Camera Used: Canon SX200 IS P&S
Settings: Manual, Optical Zoom, ISO 80, F4.5, AWB, Evaluative Metering
Exposure Time: Various (see below)
Condition:
Dark room, no ambient lighting.
Camera mounted on tripod...
To answer a few questions...
Do I make backups? Foolishly, no. I should. I just bet that drive redundancy is enough.
Is 2TB enough? 500GB has been enough for about 2-3 years I would say. A 400% increase should last me another 2-3 years easily.
Virtual Machines/Portability: Still...
Well, I want to be in that minority!
I think my plan now is to use FreeNAS to build a pool of mirrored ZFS drives. The question now becomes how many HDDs to buy? My plan called for 2x 2TB. Fine for a mirrored solution. Not sure I want to mess with parity drives.
Once the file server is...
Thanks for the reply.
Your link references ZFSguru, but I assum the latest version of FreeNAS is just as capable in terms of handling ZFS?
Edit: NM! I continued reading...
I thought I knew what I wanted in a home file server until I read Anand's recent file server "guide" if you can call it that.
I had decided on FreeNAS. I use it now and like it. I will probably stick with FreeNAS. The Anand article leans heavily in favor of WHS...
My current file server...
