This is awesome. I just built a new home and am in the process of designing my new garage layout. I may have to copy you a bit and just change the monitor setup slight. Maybe a single widescreen 29" or something.
Thanks for the idea!
I've recenlty been looking at the 27" version. Best price I've been able to come across so far is $555.30 here: http://www.nothingbutsavings.com/Product/325840
Anyone seen it lower than that?
Do I game on my dual 27s? Not really any more. Used to more a few months back but even then it was minimal; probably less than 8 hours per month.
My setup is work oriented first and foremost since I work from home. Lots of Excel spreadsheets open, Outlook, Thunderbird, Word docs, and browser...
Love those monitors. Still highly tempted by that one and the LG. While I love the clean lines and simplicity of a single monitor, I'm not sure I could give up my dual 27's. I'll have to try and check one out in person to see if it would work for me or not.
In a similar boat. I've been debating getting the proper security torque driver for my Lacie Rugged Mini external drive, ripping out the spinning HDD, and popping in my spare 256GB 840 EVO. Only thing that has stopped me is my resistance to waste money buying the necessary torque driver...
Whatever you decide, I'd at least recommend upgrading the SSD. 128GB isn't much these days and you'll quickly find yourself relying on NAS / DAS for additional space.
Just my $.02
bman - thanks for the input. I may be going AC as well as I'm currently using an UAP-Pro in my condo. Thinking a UAP-AC mounted on the ceiling on the 2nd floor of the new house may be a good start. I can add APs as necessary from there.
One AP on top most floor? Currently building and trying to determine how many APs I'm going to need in the home (I know there's no simple answer). Not sure if I'd get best coverage from mounting on 2nd floor or main floor.
I was straddling the same fence recently and after all the reports I was reading I went with a Pro as well. Can always add an AC down the road when they're getting better feedback.
Glad to hear you found a solution! Also tucking that one away in the back of my head in case I ever find myself in a similar situation. Thanks for coming back and sharing your findings.
If it won't boot, I'm thinking you're going to need physical access to the machine. At least then you could pull the hard drive and try imaging it. That's what I've had to do for customers and friends in the past who's machines wouldn't boot.
It not booting is going to keep you from doing...
Jackpot! I had to reboot after un-mapping the network locations and removing the flash drives to get things to stick. But once I did that things seem to be working as they should be.
Thanks again, Snowknight!
Well that partially worked, thank you.
Reassigning it to some like "W" moved it up to the devices section, but plugging in any additional items (like another flash drive) auto-mounts it back to "F" and in a network location.
No idea why it's doing that or how to stop it. Anyone have an...
Hello,
Long time lurker and admirer around here, but this is my first time starting a new thread. I hope I have it in the right spot.
Strange thing happens when I plug a flash drive (aka thumb drive) into my work laptop -- it mounts in the "network location" field. I can still access it but...
Wow, very clean. Curious who makes (what looks to be) that little weather station thingy you have on the desk with the binder/folders? Would be great to add something like that to my office.
Second interested party here as I recently moved from WHS to WS2012R2 Std. If OP doesn't mind, I'd like more info about how to take advantage of the highlighted part of #2 below.
Just circling back out of boredom...resolved this issue by just switching my OS to WS2012R2 Standard and installing the WSE role. Virtualized my Plex machine via Hyper-V while I was at it. Figured why the [H]ell not. Time to step my game up.
Unfortunately I have nothing to add to help you out, but I'm going to follow this thread as I'm looking to move my WHS 2011 system to Essentials or possibly even Standard for a little VM work.
Abula -
I appreciate your response and insight, thanks. While my WHS only gets rebooted when updates mandate it, I have been trying to figure out what to do with the SSD sitting in my drawer. I already have multiple SSDs in my other machines, so really it's just the WHS missing one.
You're...
In a rush out the door, but quick answer to your RDP question -- I've used CoRD in the past as well and it has worked well. Might want to consider it as well.

I did the same thing late 2012. First foray into OS X and I jumped all the hurdles you're looking at. I've been running different Linux OS's as well as Windows 8 via VM (I've been using Parallels and can't complain too much). Personally I think it's a lot better than dual booting as you can...
Me personally, I really like the Plantronics Voyager Legend. I've been using it for about 11 months now and have zero complaints. Comfortable, good battery life, pairs to my work phone and personal phone at the same time. Really nothing I'd change.
This one...
Hello,
Hopefully I have this in the correct spot. I've been running my current WHS2011 setup for a few years now. I've recently upgraded one of the SSD in my desktop PC and I was hoping to move my WHS2011 image to the SSD to see if it helps speed things up at all (boot, GUI, etc). Two...
Plenty of great advice here. My personal experiences:
* started with WHS v1 and a WDTV Live
* then went to WHS 2011 and WDTV Live
* Currently still using WHS 2011, but now with Plex Server on it and a Roku 3 with the Plex Client.
While I've considered going to a NAS many times, it just doesn't...
I've been using PLEX and have been happy with it, but this XBMC build has something drawing my attention. I figured out what it its...you're GREAT custom work!
Demon, I'll double check this afternoon and report back. I know I created full R/W access on the shares (by right clicking on the share, advanced, add, etc...) but didn't know about this "security tab" portion.
Hopefully this fixes my problem. Would love to really make use of WS by learning...
Solid tip but I had already done this. I can access my WHS just fine. What's weird is that when I try to do the same for my WS2012, it "mounts" the network path and I can see the two shares I created but I can't copy anything into the folders.
Is there a WS2012 for Dummies or help blog...
