From my troubles DO NOT use EPS Splitter. I did and basically killed a board, splitter burnt due to amperage then 3rd EPS melted as it was carrying full load of board. POOF. So now it only works with one CPU.
Tear is right about EPS splitters
got my RMA replacement OCZ 1250w gold in . now I am afraid to use it after the above..
BTW my 4P blowup had another item to be destroyed besides the board and PSU. was looking at the killowatt
and the socket for it is melted just as PSU connections were.
This shit is getting expensive.
Just lost my 4 month old GTX 660 ti Factory OC:mad:
RMA now in process. Hope replacement lasts longer
This has been crappy year so far down to a single 4P may have to fire up my socket F 4P at this rate
Well she is just sitting there, I'm in process of moving to new house and haven't had time to deal with it.
She will be back in action soon I hope.
Thanks for inquiry.
Woke up this morning and attempted to get on this site. No Go had to go to another room to reset verizon router (junk). while there realized the i7 box not running, attempted to reset and it was very vocal. 5 beeps and no video..
Not video card (new GTX660 ti) or memory as I replaced both...
Might be a few holding off due to recent 4P motherboard problems.
I was going to add a 3rd one, but after my problem that is on hold:mad:
Good price on those processors though
UPDATE
Just had a little time to start testing.
JPW3 and JPW4 are being used right now
Had a couple scary power-up's board finally decided to boot.
Boots on CPU1 able to go online view this site and others.
Loads FAH and runs still using CPU1 loaded WU and running
More updates later
With that board you need 4 fast hex core opterons for big adv, I think they will still make time. Opteron 8439 running 2.8Ghz
I was able to get 6901's using 4x 8389 4 cores @2.9ghz on that board completed in time but not sure now.
Yes it takes ECC Ram
"Secondly, was the failure due to general operation of the equipment, or was it operated outside of normal parameters?"
I would say normal operation as that will eventually kill a board.
You Know Big Brother reads these boards.;)
Due to decreased memory capacity I hadn't thought about replacing the EPS socket on the MB. It has been quite a few years since I have done that type of work. If the board posts and will still works I might do that. I do have the desoldering tools just have to locate them.. couple of older atx...
Other than the obvious damage to JPW2 and cleaning the ATX pins I see nothing else. no signs of overheating, blown caps or vrms anywhere. Board is on 2" standoff screws.
no splitters. have pci to eps cables now.
JPW2 is going to be a pain, have to find a very small scraper to get in there to...
Took a ton of effort getting them unplugged, sort of welded in the socket and plastic gumming up the works.
JPW4 appears OK, dark area is just shadow.
@sc0tty8
"If the board posts I might be interested in purchasing it from you for a deeply discounted rate".
If it posts I will have it...
Sad photo update :
Appears 12v hit the 24pin ATX lines where it should not be as heat damage is showing.
Returning PSU to OCX for replacement. When I have some more time will attempt to see if board is fried using a 750w spare psu will check CPUs also. This sucks.
I remember the 6 burma shave signs one after another spaced about 1/10 mile apart along the old roads for complete message to buy it.
age shows for the post
Sorry no pictures yet.
I think the board is toast
The 8 pin EPS connection next to the 24 pin connector shows heavy damage internally. The PS cable for that EPS connection has a crystallized connector and melted insulation, plus where it was next to other cables it damaged them also. The...
PSU is OCZ 1250 Gold.. 108amp single rail
YES stupid me I used an EPS splitter to fill the 3rd spot. Totally forgot about it as was supposed to be just until I ordered a PCI to EPS adapter but I forgot to do it. Big hurry to get setup running.
I do have another 4P and will be using it to check things. Same PSU , testing is not the problem but replacements may be.. was going to upgrade my 4P 6166HE but will use it for the testing I have to do.
Just will be a few days before I can start on it.
Looked at my 6180 4p this afternoon . no fans running, strange smell in the room.
YUCK all 3 8pin cpu power wire connectors are melted along with lots of insulation. Dont know what damage to board, processors of PSU etc but hope nothing. the board connectors look fine.
Also hoping PSU...
