    I Bought a RTX 3080 Today!

Baby want toy now! I don't know who's worse: the scalpers or the people who can't get cards acting like someone just murdered their mother.

    I Bought a RTX 3080 Today!

I hear what you're saying, but the words of Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon 2 when told to take the baddies money and do something good with it... "Blood money." I've got two arriving shortly, one of which is going to my coworker for face value who couldn't get away from a meeting.

Much better than the US in my experience, at least here in the SE.

    I Bought a RTX 3080 Today!

Got two: Asus TUF (non-OC) from Ebuyer, and a Gigabyte Eagle OC from Scan here in the UK. Got confirmation of purchase, invoice and was charged on both. Both were MSRP. Only regret is not picking expidited shipping so won't likely have them until Monday.

    RTX 3xxx performance speculation

This is a bit like a game publisher releasing a game without microtransactions to get better reviews, then adding them in after the dust has settled. Reviewers should take it upon themselves to revisit their articles/videos to add a later disclaimer, but I doubt they'll be doing that (and the...

    RTX 3xxx performance speculation

Snagged an Asus TUF from Ebuyer, and an Eagle OC from Scan (both for actual launch price!) -- must have been lucky. I was pre-logged into my b-account when I added to my basket - not sure if that helped. OCUK was the only one who had my preferred model (EVGA), but I didn't even bother after...

    RTX 3xxx performance speculation

From going through 3-4 product launches now after moving to the UK, it seems quite a bit easier actually getting a card on launch day in UK/EU. That said, we pay more... This one was the worst I've seen. Every single online retailers' site seemed to be struggling.

    RTX 3xxx performance speculation

Whelp, screw it. After F5-ing across 10 sites/retailers, I was able to snag an Asus TUF OC from Ebuyer (bonus on double Amex points and topcashback). That was literally the longest payment process hang I've ever seen.

    RTX 3xxx performance speculation

Yea, I'm thinking I'm getting too old for this shit and will sit back and enjoy people complain and get bilked. If any consolation, I've been playing on a GTX 780 Ti (and 2070 mobile) for the past two months and it's been great going through the un-played backlog of games over the past 10...

    RTX 3xxx performance speculation

I saw that at CCL - ridiculous. Every model is £998 or higher. As is tradition, OCUK has been slowly edging up their prices in £10-30 increments every few hours like no one notices. I think they think this gives them a foundation to their argument that the "planned" on and are "trying" to...

    RTX 3xxx performance speculation

Right. My friend, to whom I sold my old Dell XPS around 2009 (?), still has the 6800 (vanilla that I'd unlocked/unmasked) running in it. A woman at my former employer I keep in touch with still uses a 5870 I sold her years back. Video cards and processors are often used until they die. It's...

100%. Reminds me a buddy of mine who got fired from CompUSA in high school for losing his shit with people who kept coming in and phoning again and again about how and when to get a Pentium.

    RTX 3xxx performance speculation

I think it's clear at least Ampere (on 8nm) is performing no miracles with power efficiency. Exactly what I intend to do. I'll pick up a 3080, play with it for a month or two, then if Navi 21 performs in the realm of a) 3080, b) it's a bit cheaper, c) has less power draw, I'll sell and move...

I assume the scaling divide between 2080 Ti and 3080 would be even larger than at 4k, but you may bump the memory buffer in certain games.

Thank you, what I was looking for. As sort of expected, barely a hair of difference between PCI-E3 and 4.

65% performance increase for same cost - I'll buy that for a dollar. They put the chip on 7nm+, that's where they go. They suggested as much in the GN review.

Nvidia Ampere Rumors Point to 305W+ TDP 230 Amps , Up to 24GB of VRAM

Hah, I literally just refreshed the page at OCUK and saw they're hiking the prices. The KFA/Galaxy frankenstein card I had my eye on had a £10 price increase :(

Nvidia Ampere Rumors Point to 305W+ TDP 230 Amps , Up to 24GB of VRAM

So far in the UK, those retailers who are showing prices (OCUK, Curry's, CCL) aren't straying too far from MSRP. 5-6 models between £650-700 apart from the traditionally ridiculously priced models e.g. Auros, Strix, Gaming X. We'll see if these prices stick tomorrow. £150 more for a ROG...

Nvidia Ampere Rumors Point to 305W+ TDP 230 Amps , Up to 24GB of VRAM

Good to hear. You got off easy, it sounds, and a good excuse to spend a few days playing with a new toy. My cousin - mid 40s, super fit, no pre-existing conds- has been in ICU with it for the past two weeks. Stay well. An extra 30w can make a hell of a difference if a standard cooler can't...

That's a quality PSU with a single 54.1A rail. I'd bet you be ok, especially if Zen 3 is power efficient (which it should be) and you don't plan on overclocking. On the other hand, I'm kind of just pulling that response out of my ass without seeing actual draw from 3080.

Hardest choice you have is whether to hit Tim Hortons or Bob Evens on Bethel after :) Expect a good number from those 20 units to be held back for friends/co-workers. It they have 20 units day 1, there will only be 5-10 available for actual on-the-floor retail. My nephew was actually talking...

The great video card dump of 2020 has begun!!!

A 1080ti still works superbly for most games unless you're playing at 4k. No reason not to hold off for stock and prices to stabilize, and see what AMD has in store. If I still had my 1080 ti, and I wasn't using a 4k monitor, I'd be having a pint and waiting for this to all blow over.

https://videocardz.com/newz/alleged-geforce-rtx-3080-graphics-card-test-leaks-online So this coupled with the other few performance leaks looks like 3080 will be on avg. ~30% above 2080 Ti in games. Seems to be in line with the historically accurate equation of: Nvidia's marketed improvement...

I had a Radeon x295 in a Silverstone Sugo 09. Tiny beast of a machine. Since it was water cooled and the temps were surprisingly good. I've also has blower cards in ITX cases, that exhaust heat directly out of the case, that had very respectable temps. If heat is dispersed properly from a...

Walmart is selling Gateway PCs and no the year is not 1999

My parent's daily driver is a hand-me-down p7811u FX with a Core 2 Duo p8500 and a 9800 GT. It was the best gaming laptop at the time for the money, beating Alienware and HP by miles on price for the same specs. I upgraded it a few years back with 8GB RAM, an SSD and Win 10. They've used it...

    RTX 3xxx performance speculation

If you want to push the full 165hz of your monitor, I'd go 3080. I wouldn't think 8gb of VRAM will limit you at 1440p, at least not for the foreseeable, but having 10gb is a bonus. That said, I'm going from educated guesses and rumors, like all of us are at this point.

This is exactly what was said with prior gens e.g. 7800 256mb, not coincidentally shortly after new console releases where an increased amount of VRAM started being standard in games.

    RTX 3xxx performance speculation

FS 2020 sucks up memory like no tomorrow at 4k and ultra settings, around 10gb without dense terrain. I'd definitely be looking for a card with >10GB. Wait for either 3080 20GB or one of the Big Navi cards with 16GB.

AMD RDNA 2 gets ray tracing

I'd be surprised at this point, with the inference from AMD's statements and what we know about RDNA 1 and 2, if the Navi 2 line up strays too far from what you lay out above. My main question is around pricing at this point. We may see some parallels with RD 5870 vs GTX 480 in some respects...

The great video card dump of 2020 has begun!!!

I just watched an EVGA hybrid 2080 tis go for £460 on Ebay -- crazy. That's a bit of an outlier, but a sign of how much these cards have dropped. This wouldn't have sold for a penny/pence under £900 two weeks ago. The guy I sold my last 2080 Super to for £600 last month must be kicking himself.

So buy Ampere or wait for AMD response?

His stuff is made to get clicks, and it's designed for Reddit luddites. In this respect, he does exemplary work. And I suppose he is getting a valid message across, albeit one that could be stated in about 1:30 including context. Buy yeah, for anyone halfway knowledgeable, these videos are...

    Xbox series X

I'm kind of torn on the Series S. Unlike the PS5 "basic" where the only difference from the standard PS5 is it lacks a drive, the S series has significantly less GPU horsepower than the series X. I agree: the S series will likely move down the lowest common denominator to which devs must...

Nvidia Ampere Rumors Point to 305W+ TDP 230 Amps , Up to 24GB of VRAM

OCUK also confirmed they had stock flowing in today, although they've been expressly warned by nV not to show any pics until NDA (17th?)

So buy Ampere or wait for AMD response?

Perhaps a controversial view, but anything under 4k 60hz on a 3080 or above is a waste, unless you're a twitch gamer.
