    280 GTX vs 4870 for F1 2011?

Thanks for the help! I'd be paying about $80 for the 280 or $70 for the 4870, but I just realized I'd also need a new psu to accommodate the load. Would it be better to by something like a 4850 until I can afford a 68x0?

    280 GTX vs 4870 for F1 2011?

I'm currently running an old 8800GTS 320MB that just isn't cutting it with F1 2011. I've been thinking about upgrading, but I have a really limited budget so an older card is all that I can fit in. From what I've found, the 280 and the 4870 seem to still be somewhat competitive. Will either of...

    Bose Endows Company to MIT

The only reason why you would implement active equalization is to correct inherent flaws in a speaker's frequency response. So what you're saying is first you need to overpay for a poorly designed speaker, then you need to pay even more for a system to correct the poorly designed speaker. If...

How Come Bose Never Comes Up?

Take a look at the full-size Audio Technica noise cancelling sets as well, they sound great and offer better value for money over the PXC350/450 (Though if you have the cash, the Senns are obviously the better performer). In terms of passive vs active, active noise cancellation actually works...

How Come Bose Never Comes Up?

Not the same form factor...so you want to pay $200 for tiny satellites and a mid-woofer? There's a reason why Bose doesn't publish frequency response (Aside from the fact that their audience wouldn't know what to make of it anyway). Regardless, if you're space constrained you wouldn't exactly...

Mercedes Delivers Its First F-Cell Vehicle

If you're going to dump on a car, at least do it properly. It looks nothing like a Prius. It's an A-class, which looks like a turd beaten with an ugly stick, but it's a car that has looked pretty much the same since 1997. The amount of information, or lack thereof, about hydrogen fuel...

    Free Invites for RevTT

I don't get it. Glamourous Glennis was the nickname, the aircraft's actual name was the X-1. And the first supersonic project was indeed the Miles M.52, the information gathered from that cancelled program led to the X-1.

    OS Drive: X25-V or WD6401AALS

So I just have one last thing to buy for a new i7 system, and that's the OS drive. I don't need a whole lot of space for this pc so for size, the 40GB Intel X25-V would be a good fit. However, for half the price, I could pick up a 640GB WD Caviar Black. The 640GB also has a 5 year warranty...

USB 3.0, SATA 3.0 worth it?

Yeah. I couldn't justify the price difference right now (Especially since the cheaper option allows me to use my old LGA775 cooler) so if they need USB 3.0 down the line, I can always add an expansion card. I'll probably be picking up an Intel X25-V but from what I understand only the newer...

Need to replace all my headphones with 1 mega pair

I would never recommend an AT open can for a bass head, they completely lack any kind of visceral impact and low frequency extension is imo subpar. I'd open my budget up a bit and try to find a used pair of Beyerdynamic DT770s for around $130.

    Re-use Antec Neopower 500?

I'm building a basic i7 rig and was wondering if an Antec NeoPower 500w would be enough to power an Asus P6T, i7-920, 6GB ram, a couple of hard drives, and a 9600GT? The 9600GT I know is old and slow but it's all that's really needed in my application so it will for sure either be the 9600 or...

USB 3.0, SATA 3.0 worth it?

Thanks for the input guys. It doesn't look like my parents would make much use of either so I'm leaning towards a mobo without those features (Asus P6T). For only $40 more though, I could get the new Gigabyte X58A-UD3R which has both. And lowteckh, X58 is overkill for my parents but my dad...

USB 3.0, SATA 3.0 worth it?

Thanks for the info! I figured they wouldn't make use of SATA 3.0. Does anyone know if a lack of USB 3.0 will be a serious limitation in the next few years? I realize it's all speculation but any help would be appreciated.

    Dayton SUB-120 HT Humming/Hot

 A well-shielded cable will cost you $10-15. Well-shielded does not equal expensive. And yes 450, you could just buy an RCA pair. It doesn't even have to be 75ohm coaxial wire, that's just the standard for digital transmission, this is analog. It's usually cheaper to buy just the LFE...

USB 3.0, SATA 3.0 worth it?

Sorry if this has been covered already but the search engine seems to get flummoxed by "3.0." I'm building an X58 rig for my parents and they tend to keep their computers for about 4-5 years. By this time will USB 3.0/SATA 3.0 be a necessity? I can't see them moving to an SSD in this pc's...

How could I improve my Sound Gear??

Anyone with an elementary school education would be able to read a spec sheet and understand it. If it makes you feel special that you can read a graph and fine print that's your prerogative, just don't expect the rest of us to pat you on the back for being able to do so. Wow, you know what...

HD650 without an AMP on Thinkpad Laptop?

AT's are very odd cans. The way they're voiced is just very strange to me, especially their closed cans. If you like your HD555s, the Denon's would be a better upgrade than an AT. Also, for most AT's, bass isn't really something they excel at, imaging and soundstaging are usually their high-points.

HD650 without an AMP on Thinkpad Laptop?

Since you're looking for bass and listen to trance and electronic music, the Beyerdynamic DT770 would also be a good match for you. A DT770-80 would be driven perfectly fine from a laptop out and can be had for almost half the price of the D2000. The mid-range on the DT770 is it's downfall but...

    Sound card Vs. onboard audio

Having a dedicated sound card will not yield any realizable performance benefit for gaming. As for the difference between onboard and dedicated audio, if you're just using the digital out, there will be little difference if any in sound quality. For personal reasons, I still prefer dedicated...

New B&W MM-1 computer speakers and other options

I guess we can agree to disagree then. Imo, across the spectrum, the frequency response of the 802's is more consistent than that of the Sapphire's. Black: B&W 802D Blue: Dynaudio Sapphire By your analysis, the Sapphire's frequency response also represents a smiley curve with its...

New B&W MM-1 computer speakers and other options

A smiley face equalizer curve has boosted highs, boosted lows, and no mids. Look at every single frequency response graph for B&W's real speakers, it looks nothing like that. In fact, just listen to them, they sound nothing like that. B&W's have always had a very pronounced mid-range. Their...

$200 budget, need quality PC speakers.

There are custom made adapters available, but at $45, it's not worth it. $45 for the cable + $37 for the pos Z5500 subwoofer + $100 for the new subwoofer driver = should have just bought a real subwoofer to being with. :o

Why ask a question if you don't want the answer? He made good recommendations, Dayton has a good 10" sub for $99.99 shipped. It's boomy yes, but certainly better than what you're looking at.
