After switching DHCP on DDWRT AP, no longer getting IP on devices

Hmm, are imgur not permanent? Anyhow, I have the LAN on the TPLink going to an unmanaged switch. From there its going to the LAN port in my AP. I did try using the WAN port (as a test) and did not see any change.

After switching DHCP on DDWRT AP, no longer getting IP on devices

LOL, yes I had them laying around. Their sole purpose is to serve 2.4ghz wifi to some bulbs that are on the outside of my home. My router is very central to my home so this helps get thru the concrete wall. They arent doing much and TBH they work great (well when they were on my TPLink DHCP)

After switching DHCP on DDWRT AP, no longer getting IP on devices

Yes I posted another thread a few weeks back. Couldnt figure it out so I went back to my TP Link DHCP. Was giving this one more go and then put a lot more detail into this post. Modem is 192.168.0.x Subnet 255.255.255.0 TPLink is 192.168.19.x Subnet is 255.255.255.0 Pihole and 3 APs on...

After switching DHCP on DDWRT AP, no longer getting IP on devices

Oh yes, Ive rebooted everything, TP Link Router, DDWRT AP, and Pihole Rasberry Pi. Just so weird to me that using the TP Link DHCP my DDWRT APs worked (with the same settings) without issue. There isnt much I can change on the Pihole DHCP side unfortunately -Range to hand out to -Gateway...

After switching DHCP on DDWRT AP, no longer getting IP on devices

Gotcha. Well in that case it is already using the IP for the TPLink Router. And in my testing, I switched it to the Pihole as the gateway and that too didnt work lol.

After switching DHCP on DDWRT AP, no longer getting IP on devices

Yes Ive rebooted them. Also I have the ethernet from my Router in the LAN port of the DDWRT AP. I tried the WAN port just in case, and still did not work I did more testing and I am able to connect my laptop to it via Ethernet and can pull an IP. Additionally, I actually DO see the wifi bulbs...

After switching DHCP on DDWRT AP, no longer getting IP on devices

Quick update. I hardwired into the WRT54G and was able to pull an IP to my laptop. So I am now thinking this is more focused on the wifi side of things

After switching DHCP on DDWRT AP, no longer getting IP on devices

Hi all, so its been a bit of a journey but I recently switched to using Piholes DHCP. I have 3 additional access points on my network in addition to my Router. Everything connecting to my main TP Link router, no issues, but my wifi bulbs going to my APs (old ass WRT54G with DDWRT) stopped...

Help setting up APs with a Router + separate DNS and DHCP server

Yes dhcp was turned off on router and on via pihole dhcp. It was working fine except some settings on my ddwrt it doesn't seem to like. I did a test and out dhcp back to my router and the ddwrt APs connect just fine. So I suppose something about the way pihole dhcp (uses dnsmasq I believe) is...

Help setting up APs with a Router + separate DNS and DHCP server

Hi gang, so a bit ago I put my old ass routers on my network to get some range close to the cement walls. All was good, hooked my wifi bulbs to them etc. I used some guides to connect my DDWRT old routers and set as APs. Just today I was working on doing static IPs for all of my wifi devices...

What to check when router goes offline

Thank you. Regarding the MAC change, is this something most routers offer? Im not seeing that anywhere within the Netgear web UI. Thanks

What to check when router goes offline

Let me rephrase. When I go into the logs of my net gear router is shows a list of suspected DoS attack IPs and ports. I guess they could very well be false positives

What to check when router goes offline

Wow I honestly never even thought it could be the power brick. But thats a good suggestion and worth a try. As for the drop block list tbh I wasn't seeing how to block wan ips from the router. Perhaps I need to do this instead in my att fiber modem? Thanks

What to check when router goes offline

Hi all. So today my router seems to keep going offline. Its a Netgear Nighthawk AC router. Anyhow last week I did add 3 old Routers setup as APs (hardwired) so not sure if somehow related. I also checked the logs and see I am get DoS attacks. I do have the DoS protection enabled and disabled the...

Wifi channels and which to use for optimization

Good morning all. So I apologize in advance this may be a super basic question but here goes. So you guys helped me last week repurpose 3 of my old routers into wired APs around my home. I want to optimize the channels for the wifi. What I am unsure about is, since they all share the same...

Help with setting up old routers as access points

Thanks, I think your question about the ports and then when I said the switch wasnt lighting up made the (most obvious) lightbulb go off!! So thank you On the plus side I loaded DD WRT on my E3000 too, so now I have all 3 on DDWRT and all working. I set the 2 WRT54Gs to do G only, and the...

Help with setting up old routers as access points

Help with setting up old routers as access points

Thanks, I think I did all of that. Actually let me break down exactly what I did and you guys can tell me what Im missing 1. Help with setting up old routers as access points

I guess interesting that some guides say to use the LAN port, and others, including on the forum saying the WAN port. I do see on the DDWRT instructions for AP it says to use the WAN however there seems to be an extra option to 'Assign WAN Port to Switch' Anyhow another dumb question. So right...

Help with setting up old routers as access points

Hah thanks guys, I may upgrade. FIgured I would try this first. I also have a Cisco E3000 which I plan to use (2x WRT54g and 1x E3000, at least the E3000 is newer). Anyhow I am currently not using the WAN on my WRT at all, only the LAN port and of course one of the LAN ports from my NetGear. It...

Getting ATT Modem/Router on same network with my Netgear Router

Hey all. I apologize in advance if this is n00b level stuff but basically I have a Pace modem for my fiber internet with ATT and a Netgear R7000 router. Best configuration for NVMe, SSD, and HD

Hey all. So I currently have the following 250gig Samsung 840 EVO 1.5 TD WD 7200rpm 4x 8TB WD Reds (most likely going into QNAP NAS) Also considering a Samsung 960 EVO or PRO. My question is for the NVMe drive and SSD, which is best to use for my boot and which best for applications/games...

    Inexpensive 4bay NAS configuration

Hey all. Recently picked up four 8tb WD drives and looking to do a RAID 5 configuration. Is there anything out there comparable to a QNAP 453 but for less money? I was able to nab one for $410+tax on BF but it seems like a lot. Then again I am new to NAS hardware in general. Mainly using for...

Possible to do speed testing within WRT router?

Hi all. So I am trying to compare two internet services that offer 1gig speeds but find that my PC is honestly just too old/slow to take full advantage. Connection showing 100mbps instead of 1Gbps, help

Hey all, so it was in fact one of the two keystone jacks that was the issue. Redid them both but noticed after the 2nd one the lights on the devices went to 1Gbps so good deal. Thank you all for the comments and help! :)

Connection showing 100mbps instead of 1Gbps, help

Ok great, this gives me hope. Maybe I did a shoddy job on the keystone jacks when I installed (and of course never cared to even verify until now lol). Rerunning the line in the attic isnt the end of the world but a much bigger pain in the ass for sure Thanks!

Connection showing 100mbps instead of 1Gbps, help

SSD Compare on different Samsung 840s
