Keeping a USB cable and a USB extension cable from separating

Thanks for all the replies. I looked at all the hubs on the Egg. Seems like a $10-$20 4 port hub with free shipping works for me. If I outgrow that hub in the future, I can always use another hub in my parts box.

Keeping a USB cable and a USB extension cable from separating

Hope this is a good forum for this question. Some of the USB devices on the left side of my desk do not have cables long enough to reach my system unit, which is a tower to the right of my desk. So I need to use a USB extension cable to reach the USB ports on the back of my system unit...

Intel Foundry aims for manufacturing independence

Seriously doubt that. China would want to get control of TMSC so that they can manufacture their own advanced chips in large quantities. If China does conquer Taiwan I can imaging a "scorched earth" policy in which TMSC facilities are either shipped out of the country in advance of an...

Nvidia surpasses Google, Now 3rd Most Valuable Tech Stock.

That is pure, unadultarated s---, designed to hype the stock price and stoke demand for AI hardware. Someone I know who is a developer tried to get ChatGPT to write some programs. Terrible results. "Cliff Clavin" style of programming, he called it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cliff_Clavin

Any stock professional will tell you that they can't really time the market. If they can't do it, what chance to us poor shlubs and wage slaves have of doing that?

    Walmart buying Vizio - $2.3B

I once looked at Roku TVs, after seeing ads for their TVs on the Roku channel (via my Roku stick). All of their TVs are lower-quality brands. Besides, the way software changes, even if you had a Roku TV you would probably need a Roku stick eventually. To me, the whole smart TV situation is a...

Is all this hassle (and doing without a working system) really worth it, as opposed to buying a retail closed box product?

    Walmart buying Vizio - $2.3B

Good question. I have an older Samsung TV and I wish I could truly configure it to clean out all the cruft. I'd buy a custom ROM if such were available, especially if I could order it with my choice of settings.

    X670E Taichi Battery Removal

^^ Which is why I never buy open box. Sure I might save a few bucks, but I might also get endless hassle and delay, and not have my new rig up and running right away. I'd sooner buy a used pre-built system (which I have never done.)

anyone here have the Be Quiet 901? Opinions?

Am considering the Be Quiet as a quiet case that can last for multiple builds for a long time. Not happy with my Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case. Not well made, so the case sides are hard to screw back into place. Was very hard to assemble the top cover with a radiator underneath. USB front panel...

So we are doing a family visit for a few days in KY. Hotel free WiFi a bit slow but works fine with all websites, etc. However, I get repeat prompts from Outlook to enter my password, but only in the morning, two days now. Weird thing is that Outlook downloads messages just fine on my iPhone...

ZLUDA Allows CUDA Binaries to Run on AMD GPUs

Great news. I have been using AMD CPUs for 3 generations now, and I would have prefereed to get an AMD GPU, but I use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop a lot and it seemed that Adobe software was optimized for CUDA. Now when I upgrade in a year or two max, I will definitely get an AMD GPU. Adobe...

    Asus X670E Hero 1904 BIOS

I've been very (too) busy for over a year now. (TL DR. :nailbiting: ) I'm still on 0805, which came with my Strix E-A board, but I think it's past time that I upgraded. What is the latest BIOS that is reasonably stable and issue-free. Whatever you might say about 0805, it has been rock solid...

Do older SATA drives need 3.3V?

I just got an 18 TB WD drive, and when I plugged it in to my PSU, of course it didn't spin up. So I know I can cut one of the SATA power connector wires, and that will fix the problem for this drive. https://forums.serverbuilds.net/t/guide-3-3v-sata-power-cable-mod-3-3v-wire-removal/9806 But...

I sorta have some space in my case to mount SSDs, using special brackets. The issue is that I would need more SATA ports.

Does anyone have any ideas about when Intel and AMD will release motherboards with NPU support? I assume that the NPU will require a new socket, rather than being mounted on a PCIE card? Yes? No? If you took a current gen motherboard from ASUS, say, what is the cost delta for that NPU...
