I have no experience with the Blackridge. Sorry i can not compare it with the L9a. With the L9a i still have the IO shield in place.
Richiegore, the fan duct on the L9a made the CPU 6-8 degrees cooler in my system.

First i soldered and then bought an adapter. Vga fan to fan adapter.
No ticking here. The loudest parts are my nb fans on the bottom.
